I first heard this song in heard this song by Lagwagon in 1996 even though the album Trashed was two years old by then. Right up until than I was listening to Green Day, Offspring, Pennywise and my favorite punk band of all time Face To Face. I never heard of Lagwagon until my freshman year of high school by this sophomore punk rock band drummer who drove me to school every morning. He turned me on to Lagwagon, The Vandals, NOFX, Good Riddance, BigWig, No Use For A Name, Bad Religion, Propagandhi, Rancid, Strung Out, Bouncing Souls, and AFI.
That guy could've been me as I used to play those bands in my car driving my friends around. Unfortunately, I never drove in high school though, so it wasn't me. I've seen most of those bands in concert too.
2:13 I watched this drum fill over and over back in the day. NEver got to see him with Lagwagon, but was lucky enough to see him twice with RKL. One of the best drummers I've ever seen live.
Don't leave them on an island of shame Open your eyes It's all in sight Adding insult to injury 'Cause deep inside The truth in lies It's not that blind He was alone And it's prejudice As if he chose to be this way They'll make him keep more than he would take It's prejudice Yes it's prejudice As if he chose to be this way They'll make him keep more than he would take They like to stabb him in the back
It is no less a statement today as it was then. You've got to remember all this shit going on right now in society isn't new and neither is the fight against it.
It is about how wrong society is when people who just want to be themselves without messing with anyone are unfairly punished and marginalized due to intolerance, ignorance and hate. It is prejudice. People can't chose how to be in determined aspects such as race, sexual orientation or identity, personality, etc , they are just the way they are and we all have the right to be ourselves in peace. But history has proved several times that if the cattle thinks you are different from their standards, those who are against you being yourself will enjoy stabbing you in the back with approval from the majority.
@@tonysly41 Thanks for the reply. I love Lawgagon, but as a Spanish speaker I have trouble translating some of their lyrics as they are quite complex, even so I don't stop learning with them, it's the wonderful thing about music and punk rock in particular. Greetings from Tijuana.

And it's prejudice As if he chose to be this way They'll make him keep more than he would take One summer morning He left us ashamed In some small town of small ways The one they feared They might turn to stone They feared to hold his hand And he died alone He died alone They might turn to stone... alone Don't leave them on an island of shame

The sound of the snare drum is amazing. Derrick!!!!!!!!!!
To share joy doubles the pleasure, to share grief halves the pain.
Damn!... how much I miss punk rock from those days!!!!

Don't leave them on an island of shame
Open your eyes
It's all in sight
Adding insult to injury
'Cause deep inside
The truth in lies
It's not that blind
He was alone
And it's prejudice
As if he chose to be this way
They'll make him keep more than he would take
It's prejudice
Yes it's prejudice
As if he chose to be this way
They'll make him keep more than he would take
They like to stabb him in the back
Sitting in lockdown, it's 1am and I'm currently wondering where my childhood went..... Fuck
Lagwagon is pretty much the irrefutable band of genius lyrics. Look at Sick especially
Sick describes mental illness more accurately than any other song I've ever come across. Got me through a lot of tough times.
First Lagwagon song I ever heard going on.. 16 years ago. Fuck I'm old. Love it!
I'm just so surprised. This has been uploaded for 10 years and only 10k likes?
2020 ! sick song, always
