The Space basically puts a HPF on the sides to create more space in the Low end on the SIDES and the Width is literally the Levels of the SIDES. Transformer adds a very subtle Hi end and Lo end harmonics. Its quite small but it’s noticeable when you BP it. Cool vid.
Thanks for your input! I got this info from an SSL source today: The elaborate stereo image section has blue knobs for Space and Width, and the ubiquitous In button. It converts the signal from Left‑Right to Mid‑Sides for processing, then back to L‑R for the ongoing signal path. Width alters the overall level of the Sides signal over a ±6dB range to narrow or widen the image width, of course, but the Space control may be less familiar. This adjusts a Sides‑only low‑frequency EQ, as used long ago by Alan Blumlein and later by EMI as part of a ‘Stereo Shuffling’ technique. It’s also used in the form of an ‘Elliptical Filter’ to constrain out‑of‑phase LF information when cutting vinyl. Boosting the low‑end width relative to the highs can give a greater sense of spaciousness and depth, and that’s the main intention here, but this processing can also be used to sharpen and improve the focus of the stereo image obtained from simple coincident mic techniques. I wonder if providing up to +12dB of low‑end boost was the optimum choice, as +6dB often seemed way too much to me - an asymmetrical range of, say, +6 to ‑18dB might have allowed for greater adjustment precision. And since I’m already being very picky, a crossover control to determine the frequency range affected would have been a nice bonus!
Fantastic stuff, man! i just picked up the Plugin version of the Violet EQ, loving it so far! Salutations from astonishingly wet and still sorta weirdly back to normal Ireland! ☘☮🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮☘
Hi very cool video , did you checked also the hidden feature of the high pass compressor 😜 press the button longer, the color will change and than 🥁 enjoying an additional LMC compressor 😜😜 , love and greetings from Germany
Yes just use one side of the fusion. Not my recommended chain as I see the fusion more effective as a stereo bus, group or master insert. However, all possible.
Had dismissed this as too subtle for my needs but that was before I got the headphones out. Would’ve liked to be able to push the drive a bit hotter, but guess there’s other ways around that. 🤔
Liked it. Maybe I'd present its capabalities with matched level. But I definitely can hear the difference even with louder result. It's worth the money.
Many thanks! Its actually a lot better to leave the mix not too hot, that way you allow your master to have some space to breathe into. Happy recording to you sir!
You sure could, inserting it over a drum bus or anything really. For me though, it shines on the mix and mastering side of things. But, there are no rules! 🙂
@@MySecretSpotrecording I have no set way, but just recently I prefer the Creme and then the SSL. Its always about the song and what it needs and not the tech process for me.
@@meyerstreetrecords Okay. Cool. So why not the other way? What made you decide this way? Just asking, I have the creme and thinking about getting the fusion.

I ended up getting a SoundCraft LX7II in almost new Condition......man....Im Starting to thing, the Medium Sized SoundCraft Consoles are the Best on a Low Budget, Unliess you can afford a full SSL, Trident or API.......I would put my SoundCraft LX7II against...the Little Six, Big Six, Mackie, Tascam 24 or Mix Wizard any day of week...this thing is taking my Masters up to a new level Ive got 24 Clean Pres, Mixing Bay in Middle of the Board, Aux Sends and Returns, 4 Band British EQ on Each Channel and InBoard Headphone Tracking....you wont beat this unless you can go all the way up to a "High End Console"
Honestly from Using the SSL Fusion With Access Analog Vs Plugin Alliance Silver Bullet and Mojo In a Analog Bounced Mix Actually, the Silver bullet and mojo With the clipper from Acustica Audio on my analog bounced mix actually sounded better
Good one, I just would not use the drive on quiet sections, unless it was a production thing. Personally I love vintage drive on the fusion, it adds so much character to a mix or stem. Thanks for the comment.
All you have to do if you don’t want the tape like hiss, is turn up the drive after a little pass 12 o’clock it disappears and you can reduce the input to allow it to hit the drive at desired levels.
Additive units vs very good live Analog sampled plugins have only a 5-10% difference on bounced Analog Mixes So someone who has no analog gear at all This might be more valuable to them, but if you already have a Analog gear You’re better off going with the Silver bullet plugin
Man...the T Racks....one with Acustica Audio Sand bundle with SSL native vd plugin... will give you the same sound on a mix and then if I run that through my regular analog year even on my mackie... mixer my master will sound just as good without spending $2,800 Better yet... I can finish and run that same mix through Fusion on access analog unlimited for $100 a month And still spend a lot less money and have the same sound
Good song too 🔥
Thank you man!
Best demo Ive seen on the fusion. I just brought one, arriving in 2 days, Nice song by the way
How the fussion working for you.........
I own it and absolutely love it! It’s on every mix and master these days! Incredible piece of gear for the hybrid studio
Amazing!
would you still use a clipper and limiter after the ssl fusion to finalize it??
@@REMRODFILMS I do yes, I actually prefer the Sonnox Oxford inflator, their limiter is nice too but the inflator is magic.

I’ve been on the fence about getting one. Now with this not so much! Definitely buying now!

Do you run the Teleger in the loop of the Fusion though? Even though you didn't show it here for the demonstration.
Sometimes yes, all depends on the project and sound. But its a nice combo.

How would I chain a analog LA2A into the ssl fusion? Is that possible with a mono hardware unit? I’d like to track vocals with the fusion

I did'nt in this video, however, I usually would for most genres when mastering.
@@meyerstreetrecords so you dont actually use this for mastering? Just beefing up the final mix? So its master ready? Is that what it mainly used for?
@@REMRODFILMS It can be used however you wish to be honest. I personally master with a mix of analogue and digital, all depending on the project.

There are only a few pieces of gear I wouldn't sell, and this is one of them.

It's engineered at SSL, Oxford and assembled in China. Just like most technology. :-)
