This is clearly seen if put an L2 limiter on the DAW master section, and turn the limiter all the way. I urgently need to find out because my SSL FUSION is still under warranty!
I would, this is just for spiceing things up , then you go to the mastering multiband eq and compression and the final on or even two limiters for additional little thighteness. And if you hear those high harsh sounds coming up because of all the limiting and eq-ing, you can for the grande finale use SSL fusion again - just the hf compressor module to polish the highs to perfection.:) I would use it like that.
You all should go check out Mitch's review @ Sweetwater. He put some amazing final touches on a mix and really showed the effectiveness of the Hi-Pass Filter and EQ! These were good examples but Mitch really tapped into some good high frequency stuff that just blew my mind!
I would love to hear it actually gain-matched. The processed sound is still louder than the bypassed signal both times he dials it back. I think it’s a very interesting box and certainly sounds good, but it’s hard to compare. If the processed level was a tiny bit quieter than the unprocessed I’m not sure I would prefer it engaged. In a game of millimeters, a few millimeters changes the score.
Yes, this is something that made me wonder, too. If you make such a nice piece of hardware (which it definitely is), why are you cheating still, even if you HAVE an built-in level compensation?!
