so much flexibility / so many options and sounds great - if it's microprocessor controlled then it feels like a real shame not to add a software / plug-in control layer though.... as it is there's a hell of a lot to notate if you want to recall later
I guess you've misunderstood how the microprocessor is used. Its only intended purpose is in/decreasing steps of resistance (usually done by the potentiometer). The advantage are, quite tight tolerances. Therefore the actual manipulation of your sound can and will be controlled very precisely(in terms of analog gear), which enables ssl to fit so many features. But nevertheless, its a 100% analog (sound) circuit, therefore the actual potentiometer still have to be dialled in at the correct position. So no software, will be able to do the actual recall of the potis. (that's the part where I start guessing): probably u could implement some sort of partial recall (regarding the options with pressing buttons, i.E. DEQ's Freq & Range)
@@clemybeatz8031 I don’t think he misunderstood at all. Perhaps you have misunderstood. The digitally controlled analog hardware design is absolutely perfect for memory use. It would make a bit of a mess of an already very crowded front panel though. Store, recall, and one of the 31 step pots dedicated to setting number is all it would take to do it. I’d be happy with 8 registers. Old school!
3:27 The Bus+ uses digital control of it's analog parameters for precise matching, but does not have any means to interface with workstation software via MIDI or USB..? I would have hoped that I could use a controller plugin to adjust and recall the parameters. Did I miss something?

What’s next, the SSL Microphone??? Great Job!!👍❤️🔥
Great unit and design with all the new features. I wish it had some output transformers to really add some extra body and weight. This could have easily been implemented like the Fusion with an In / Out switch for the Transformers. I guess the work around would be to pair it with my Fusion!
Indeed! Ive got them both. In M/S mode the pair offer quite a bit of polish for the Master Bus. The bang for the buck and flexibility is hard to compete with. It stands amongst my other studio compressors and does the glue like nothing else. I often send gear back, but the SSL products remain long after others are gone.
Does the Bus+ do the G Series compressor? I might be missing a piece of information, on the website it reads " If you need it to be clean and punchy like the SuperAnalogueTM 9000 Series version, it can be. If you need it to be gritty and grungy like an early 4000E, it can do that also. Or if you need over-the-top, saturated, parallel compression for the drums, THE BUS+ has got you covered."
Thanks for the tutorial! This video really helped me understand it. I have one question. Can I get the same result with the D-EQ HFband as HFCompressor on Fusion?
When adjusting the D EQ frequencies, can you hear the sweep while changing settings with audio passing through? Or do you bypass the D EQ, select your frequency/range, and then listen?
I have a question. In the section regarding the F/B button, you say this, " the signal feeding into the sidechain is derived from the feed forward position...". When you say this, are you referring to an EXTERNAL S/C INPUT coming in the INTERNAL S/C signal?
question: if you can send the decode mid/side signal via the xlr output in the back, how do you get the external processed signal back in to be encode again?
* fun SMASHING drums, rather than "smashing up" To "smash up" means what it says - to break (something) to bits violently. To "smash," in audio engineer terminology, means to clamp down on a signal hard - causing much gain reduction - by means of compression, using fast settings.
I cant for the life of me understand why you put so much effort into what is obviously a beautiful piece of kit, but can’t seem to develop digital recall via a plug-in for it. So many companies are doing that correctly these days, and honestly this compressor is an ccabsolute ache in recall. If you want to compete you need to get with the times SSL!
I'm looking for this bus+ for solo classical music with flûte traverse and violon, solo or little Chambéry formation. Flute need a no destroyed compression on HF and need to keep warm sound in LF.. IS it really possible to tune bus+ like a multiband compressor too?
G Comp 500 series is $2500 vs BUS+ at $2900. Unless you absolutely don't have the space, why would you buy the 500 series with the reduced headroom and less functionality? The BUS+ looks awesome and the value is there, but it also looks like they are shooting themselves in the foot.
@@PicassoBeatz I'm not sure, but aren't the revamped 500 series also made in China? I honestly don't care either way, but I assume you mean there will be quality control issues.

I am a BIG fan of mighty SSL. - As the music world started to migrate towards multi channel formats like Dolby ATMOS and other binaural and Ambisonics likes … - How are we going to incorporate this into a modern workflow? - Dear SSL could you please release a multichannel (7.1.6) version of SSL Bus processor and Channel strip plugins please ? Love this peace of gear and hoping to get my hands on it soon.❤️❤️❤️ Thank you SSL.
I’m listening to this on a full range, effectively linear system - and the differences pointed out were so subtle, even after multiple listens, I’m not sure I really got a sense of what this thing can do… other than sound like an SSL bus compressor. Without the captions and narration to tell me what I was supposed to be hearing, I would have not known that any settings had been changed at most points in the video. I think with things like the different 4K modes, driving the input a little harder would have revealed its character more. And I only thought I heard the difference in low end with the low THD button. Again, something I would’ve missed if it wasn’t pointed out and visually demonstrated. I think I would have to spend some time with this box in person to get an idea of whether or not it was right for me. This video, in terms of pure sonics, didn’t help me.
So much to control. Recall a big and problematic issue. Why not make controls all digital for surer recall? Software controllable. A missed opportunity? Not an optimum product for the musician running their own studio more for a larger commercial studio specialising in mixing and mastering perhaps?
Sorry but like 90% of analog gear its not worth $3000+ there's not a big enough difference in the audio and all the functions can be done in the box with actually a better effect on the overall project
its true that this 5% extra clamping this box can do is not worth the money for any producer at all. for 3 grand, you could get an enormous amount of plugins. I ownt he bus plus and its jsut awesome... not gonna lie! i like it more than any of my plugins. that doesnt mean i dont use plugins all the time though. but for certain things i turn to the bus plus just because its an awesome tool to work with.
@@kymatekk don't get me wrong either, analog gear has that 10% more of a sound, but to who? The engineer or the listener? Maybe if prices dropped and the companies that sell the parts as well as the pro audio companies come down in price I would recommend it to people. The only thing I say you can't bypass is a mic preamp. I woul say that's essential. UAD apollo is still good, but doesn't come close to a real mic pre. (1073 or API)

I agree, they go to this length yet no plug in to recall it remotely. I dont know why SSL can't get into the recall game like Wes Audio or Bettermaker
