      We do offer one-to-one support over Skype (see the painless360.com website for charges) but I find that most of the problems people have with the radio are due to them missing steps in the videos we've already done. Follow the series and (hopefully) you'll be fine and won't need to have a call.. Best of luck!

    Hi, Great series of videos, you have saved me a couple times! I do have a question, I got a DM9 module like the one you have from someone that moved away ( and he used a X10). I use a Taranis X9D+2019. However, I do not have the bind button on the module. There is a little hole there instead, which actually doesn't go all the way through the module case. I opened the module to see what was under, and no buttons to be found. The actual chip in the module is labelled Dx5e_D, Horizon Hobbies. Looks all good, but don't know how to bind. Any idea?

    I know this is an older post, however.. I have a question for your. I have a DX8, and wanted to dable with the Taranis QX7 Sport. I made the Spektrum antenna module... and it works flawlessly.. Here's my question. When you install the Spektrum module I physically tell the controller to use the external antenna... when I remove the external Spektrum antenna does the Taranis know to use the internal antenna then. If I go to the Mode settings I still have the option to chose the DSM2 & DSMX... just wondering because I'm having an issue trying to bind a Frsky BeeBrain Lite mini quad... Thanks

    but, will the program work?

    • @Painless360

      I wouldn't have throught so unless there is a 'model translator' app from the propriety model memories that Spektrum use to an OpenTX format..

    Hi,
    Does a module creates more lag in the system?
    I heard there is a possibility it will throw 27ms latency in the system wich will not be great when flying racing quads. The stock x9d build in latency is about 9ms if i remember correctly? Besides that does this module get better range and or penetration compared with build in tx?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 лет назад

      It will - most pilots wouldn't be able to tell of that extra step in the transmission. I can't. Happy flying!

    Have you tried binding two Rx so that they would work simultaneously? I've tried to bind the Spectrum AR 7010, Orange R1220XLR and Orange R1020X receivers. But after rebooting they lose binding... Module setting are: Led solid on-all protocols available for binding, The TX settings are: internal module off, external on PPM 22,5ms, 300u, - (minus) 1-8channels. I've also tried upon reading the manual: 1-10 channels, that modifies the ms to about 26,5 or so, and the rest the same. Don.t know what the minus and plus mean? But They lose the bind after restarting. I use two rx in my gas planes. Any ideas are welcome.

      So after many on/off cycles I've managed to bind and hold binding after Tx model and module mode change of 6 out of 7 Rx's. After trying to bind all of my Rx's together at the same time without succes then reading how the module creates the bind with the Rx I've decided to bind them in pairs(two Rx's that seemed/are similar) so the pairs are: 2x Spectrum AR7010 - on the steady module light mode, 2x Orange R610 - on one blink module mode, one Orange R1220XLR with one Orange R1020X - on the two blinks module mode, the Orange R615 doesn't work in anny module mode (althought it has a steady light after binding, but the servos move erraticaly) Then I took one R610, fitted in an Easy Star and after ground range test in which I've moved the Tx in many positions icluding the one in wich the Tx body is completely between the module antena and the model(because that's how it will be when I fly the plane overhead, the antena being under the Tx and it kind of bothers me), at 30paces all went well except when I pointed the module antena to the model, obvioustly, and find the spot where the signal was lost. In the air this particular situation could appear when the model is very low like landing, and when that happens the model is near me. So I took it to the clouds, pointed the antena at the model, and have control all the time. But this was only one Rx and an electric model. I've read HK reviews, then on forums all the threads except the 102pg long one that I'm curently reading, but didn't find the answer to one question: Can we really trust this module on big gas planes? So far I've only read people flying smal electrics or drones with it...

    Lee - Excellent series. Helped immensely make a lot of decisions going into next year. Quick question: I just got an AR7700 module (Spektrum). I have a DX6i; however, I'm probably making the move to the Taranis next year. As I too have a boat load of Spektrum stuff, the DM9 is intriguing. Now for the question: Does the DM9 handle telemetry back to the radio (presuming the radio has telemetry). Again, thanks much.

    • @Painless360

      I've not tried it, I'm guessing not. But if you have a Taranis pop a FrSky Rx into the model and get all that lovely data flowing back effortlessly! ;)

    Many Thanks.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      iflylilplanes Do you mean with the Spektrum external module or the internal FrSky radio system?

    • @iflylilplanes
      @iflylilplanes 9 лет назад

      Painless360 The internal system as well as the external, I have a vague idea as to what is to be done, but I'm not sure if there is more to what I think, plus, I don't want to experiment just in case I stuff it up.

    • @RobB_VK6ES
      @RobB_VK6ES 9 лет назад

      iflylilplanes The FrSky version of "model match" only works with FrSky's X series receivers. Basically just like the Spectrum system each RX is uniquely identified by an internal serial number and this number is used to differentiate similar receivers. I can't speak for the external modules since I do not use them.
      Don't worry, you cant muck it up too much. Worst case will be you have the wrong model selcted on the TX and the model will not respond to the transmitter. You do check for control before every flight. Right :)

    • @iflylilplanes
      @iflylilplanes 9 лет назад

      Rob B Only tried to fly the wrong model once ever in 40 years, once was enough,I check every time. Thanks.

    • @BenGovett
      @BenGovett 9 лет назад

      +iflylilplanes In addition to FrSky model match on X series rx's, you can use DSM Model Match if you build a DSM hack module for your Taranis using an RF module scavenged from a lower end Spektrum radio... Doesn't work with modules using PPM as PPM is a single direction protocol. Does work if you extract a DX4e or DX5e RF module out of a donor radio and build a hack module. That's why I bought that 4e I told you about... :-)

    I have the OrangeRX module (v1.2) and I get a red blinking led when powering up the Taranis x9D. There are 3 beeps at the start too. According to the manual I should here 3 beeps but it doesn't talk about the red blinking led. Now I don't have a Spektrum RX yet (buying a Parkzone T-28 from a fellow flyer of our field this weekend).
    EDIT: Do you lose failsafe when selecting External module? The failsafe menu goes away when External is selected.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  6 лет назад

      A quick look at the manual, it appears that you're not only have to set up the switch to a channel on the radio itself, but you're also then have to teach the craft which is the switch you want to use for the 'safe' function. It's something like holding both of the sticks on the transmitter to the low left position and flicking that switch 5 times seem to do the job. Check out the manual for your particular model, that should show the process. Best of luck!

  • @rwprime1
    @rwprime1 5 лет назад

    So, this is NOT dsmx? Well that's not good. I think the whole point is so that people can use affordable Orange dsmx receivers. The reason I watched the video was that I was hoping you had just left off the letters dsmx in the title. Therefore, I'm guessing our only option is to buy that Orange dsmx module and put up with the odd antenna placement. It's just never easy is it? I don't see myself ever giving Spektrum twice the price of what a transmitter should cost. They act like they think they're Futaba or JR. Oh, and in 2018, why can't I buy an Orange dsmx transmitter in the US - were they sued by Spektrum? I've often wondered if what hobby king calls 'Global' is usable in the US and if they would ship it here? Appreciate any answers - thanks.

      See the manual for the receiver. I expect it will go something like this - Pop the radio into bind mode and install the bind plug into the 'Bind' port on the receiver then power it. The light on the Rx should flash quickly and then go out briefly before coming on solid. At that point cancel the bind from the radio, remove the bind plug from the receiver and you'll be good to go!

I have noticed that with different Spektrum rxs' I have had to vary the ppm frame rate anywhere between 19.5 and 22.5us in order to get a solid bind. Do you know if this is normal and should I set it midway between the extremes of where it will work ok?

    Hey thank you for all your videos they are great. What I like is that you keep it simple which is great and really like the diagrams you added to some of your videos too as we're not all electronic engineers and they really help so thank you. Now to my question. Not new to RC as I've been racing sailing boat for 10 years now and do a big of bashing with my son with RC cars but new to fpv and telemetry. I am looking to add telemetry and fpv to one of my biggest boat to see gps coordinate to overlay on googlemap, boat speed in realtime (ideally in knots), battery voltage and amps consumption which I should get from telemetry and then add fpv which a can record in phase II. I will also aim to put that system on a new little 250 quad I got to build but for later. I have a mix of futaba and spektrum radio systems over the years but looking now at one with telemetry and the Frsky Taranis looks like a good option. I presume with that radio system I can use the frsky telemetry modules and then use the APM modules to manage the video with overlay to see heel angle. Was looking to see if I am right in my assumption and what you think of that radio. Cheers

    Just upgraded my Taranis plus to v2.1.17 and wished I hadn't, been trying to get telemetry going using a d4r-ii, only using that because I can't get x4r to bind,, have you got any plans to make some vids about this subject, can I downgrade my taranis?, just can't get going with the new open tx.
    Thanks
    Jeff

      +Jeff Wells We are planning to do the upgrade in the coming weeks. Check what FW is on the X4R as EU rx will not talk to non EU radios etc.. best of luck..

      See out video on flashing SmartPort receivers or (as you are running OpenTX2.1) you can use the simple 'via radio' method - www.dronetrest.com/t/how-to-upgrade-your-frsky-receiver-firmware-x8r-x4r-x4r-sb/1667

      Also if I do have to upgrade will I loose my model setups already in the taranis.

    do you have to bind every receiver every time with this or is it stored in the model memory like the internal rf module?

    Thankyou Painless 360. I have a Taranis with an Irange modul. Im binding to a AS3X Spektrum ok. However the channel order is wrong. I can swap servo leads, but. The gyros on the AS3X are operating the wrong surfaces. How can i change the servo order on the Open tx programming? Many thanks, Scott

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  6 лет назад

      You'll need a specific channel order for that. See the 4in1 module videos on my channel for how to set it up..

      @scottwheeler1641 6 лет назад

      Hi again! Thanks for your prompt reply. I have watched many of your videos, but struggled with this problem. I have now got my AS3X to work. The way i fixed it was to start a new model set up in Opentx.

    • @scottwheeler1641
      @scottwheeler1641 6 лет назад

      Then when it asks you if your model has an engine set channel 3, Ailerons are channel 1, Elevator is channel 2 and Rudder is channel 4.

    • @scottwheeler1641

      This magic formula seems to follow the Spektrum TAER at the reciever. And the AS3X is working the correct way. Im not sure if there are any side effects, maybe you could check it out and see if it works for you. Im not great with computers!! Thanks again, Scott

    So I keep looking up modules but I can only find videos of people telling you how to set it up, but no one tells you what it does or what the modules are for?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  6 лет назад +1

      The modules allow you to use external radio transmitters that will talk to other types of receiver. Want to fly a long way? Then get a TBS Crossfire module. Want to control your indoor Walkera quadcopter? Then get a multi protocol module..

    I have just got myself a Hex' with a Spektrum AR8000 rx already fitted. I did have a demo with the seller's Spektrum Tx so it all works. I took a leap into the dark and bought the Taranis Plus radio with the 9 channel Rx.
    My question is - will this Module drive that Rx ? Also, am I looking at a DMS2 output ?
    I have to admit that I am struggling with converting everything over as I only have had the Taranis six or seven days ago. I am learning though and your videos have been most informative. Long way for me to go yet though haha...

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      +Jack Kilmurray Using an external module, like the one we use in the video, will allow you to connect to the receiver that came on the model. Personally I'd replace the receiver module with a d4r-II or an X4R. Stick with the video series on the radio and make sure you check everything in whatever GUI comes with the model to confirm channel movement, assignment and direction. Best of luck.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 лет назад

      The fail-safe is really a feature of the receiver. If it can 'store' what to do in the event of a failure with the radio then that's what you're after. Most receivers that support fail-safe store these settings as part of the binding process. Best of luck!

    Having heard so many good reports of a Taranis, mine arrived today. Thrilled. I then spent close on an hour trying to fit a Spektrum module. I still haven't managed to get it to seat. As first impression go, got to say this sucks big time. I can understand why you did yours off screen! Not sure if the fault is with Spektrum or Taranis but they could do better.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 лет назад

      +Tobermory Cat You may need to bend the pins slightly to seat it. I found it was easier to get the pins in the holes then move the module into position so I could push it home. Some radios are easier than others, depends on how straight the pins were soldered on! ;)

    • @TobermoryCat
      @TobermoryCat 8 лет назад

      Painless360 I ended up using a pointed blade to open up the entrance holes a bit on the module - even then it took a while. They could do better when it comes to designing connections. I'm looking forward to working my way through your series, a great help and much appreciated.

      I know this is 4 months late, but I found if I squeezed in the side tab things on the module, it "opened" the pin holes on the module. Took me a bit to sort that out.

    • @BenGovett
      @BenGovett 9 лет назад

      +Painless360 The current batch have a problem where if you bind to a DSM2 RX, it loses bind with all your DSMX models and vice versa. In my case when flying indoor, I end up rebinding almost every flight. Plus for some DSMX models you have to bind at least 3 meters away, and often it won't bind properly under a metal roof due to reflected signals causing confusion when binding. Not much fun to have to take your plane outside to rebind between flights! Especially when it's something like a Vapour and it's windy... Once bound properly, they work well. And if you only have one kind of DSM receiver, they are also fine. Thought about getting 2 modules, one for DSM2, one for DSMX then I came across the hack module concept... Pulling the RF module out of a DX4e tonight. Model match and binding / range check control through OpenTX menus will be a nice bonus too.

    Hi,
    I just had a quick question. I also have the Taranis radio and I was thinking of buying this external TX module: www.banggood.com/FrSky-2_4G-8CH-DJT-Transmitter-Module-With-D8R-II-Plus-Receiver-Combo-p-1008353.html
    Do you think that it'll work the way yours did, or in other words, are the intructions the same for all TX modules?
    Also, are there any precautions I must take when using the module so that it doesn't get damaged, for an example, always turning all systems on a specific way etc.
    Thank you in advance!
    Regards,
    U.T

      +UltimateTech the same process goes for any module. It's powered model by model. You will need to play with the settings to get it to work but the manual for the module should help. Best of luck!

      Painless360 I have issues with this "new" version. I have it hooked up to my Taranis and it dosent seem to work properly. I can change flight modes with a switch but the throttle is not responsive :(
      Using: Taranis w/ "new" Orange Module (JR) bound to a Blade nano FPV micro.
      In the forums on the HK page, people seem to have the same issue :-/

    • @BenGovett
      @BenGovett 9 лет назад

      +Robert Meyers There's a couple of things to try... 1. Set the endpoints on your channel outputs to 80%. Spektrum gear uses smaller endpoints to the Taranis. This includes throttle, but if you have trouble getting the motors to arm try setting the lower endpoint to 90% then up to 100% which some people say helps. 2. Once you've completed 1, rebind. Make sure you are about 3 meters (10 feet) away from the craft when you turn the TX on to bind. If you have a metal roof, do this outside. RF reflections have been known to screw up the binding process on these. 3. If this still does not work, you could try building a hack module using a radio module from a low end Spektrum radio. Instructions for that here: flitetest.com/articles/spektrofy-your-taranis Am building myself a hack module this week using a module from a DX4e. Hope this helps!
