Happy flying!
These videos are a god send to me.. I rarely ever have to make changes or add a new model I go to your amazing videos to get it right.
That was a big help! I am an Open TX noob, and I've been pulling my hair out all day and reading a manual. I should have just Googled it first.👍
Thanks, it would have taken me days to figure it out but 2 min with the help of you!
The love deepens for my Taranis....
Yet another easy and clear video to follow. Great work. Thank you 👍🏻
Nice tip Lee, I just used this to prevent me from arming my S500 (I don't want some 10 inch blades taking care off my haircut)
Throttle stays at -100 and Yaw stays at 0 until I flip the magic switch and then they work like they should.
Thanks. This will save me a ton of props and prop adapters.
Thank you, This advice helped me with my T16!
A nice addition to this is to set up a logical switch...
L1 a>x Thr - 99 SG -
which means ...
IF Throttle > - 99 AND SG - is selected THEN L1 is true
then add this special function...
SF4 L1 Play Track thralert 5s
which means ...
IF L1 is true THEN play thralert every 5 seconds
This will play "Throttle Warning" if you switch to SG- and the throttle stick is not at off. It will give you a "Throttle Warning" every 5s unless you idle the throttle so you don't forget to idle the throttle before enabling it.
NOTE: thralert.wav is in the SOUNDS/en/SYSTEM folder so if it's not in the menu you will need to copy it to SOUNDS/en to use it here.
Also for S3 shown in the video it would probably be better to use !SG- (rather than SG^) so that all other positions of the SG switch (SG^ and SGv) play the "thract" track.
+press all the knobs Very good info..!!!
This is exactly what I have been looking for coming from quads to fixed wing I don’t have the luxury of using betaflight to set this up
If I could make a video request it would be setting up a "super simple gimbal" with a naze32 on clean flight. Easy build using cheap components everyone has in the parts bin and it would go slick on your tricopter!. Thanks for everything Painless360!
This video was great and helped me get my throttle cut switch. I am now looking for one more mix like a sticky throttle that wont allow throttle disable to arm if stick is not in the lowest position.
Check out the Opentx mix school series.. Happy flying!
I've wathed the video, and I can get the sticky throttle behavior to work once, but then once the second variable is set I can't figure out how to reset it so
Absolutely love your quick tips like this "oldey, but goody" of a OpenTX trick! I've been pulling my hair our trying to properly calibrate the speed controllers on a fixed wing while connected through Pixhawk. Hopefully adding this switch allows me to properly calibrate and start flying :-).
Check out my latest Pixhawk 2020 videos for lots of up to date tips.. Happy flying
@@Painless360 Awesome! Thanks, I'm checking the Plane and Multirotor playlists out now. Thanks again! Happy flying as well :-D!
Thank you. Super simple and informative.
Great video - nice and concise, plus very helpful.
Look like i need to download more voice play commands, great video, thank you!
Nice video.
Another way to do this..
I will change mine and clean up the inputs..
Thank you.
Thanks Lee. A very useful tip.
Love the mod. I am not using it for throttle but for a 6 position switch that controls flight mode. I am testing automated flight and want an easy way to get back to manual mode if things get crazy. A 6 position switch is not easy to spin the switch back to manual while a plane is spinning out of control. I can flip a 2 position switch fast to rescue the plane.
Can you explained in details how to make a sticky throttle cut with the Horus. This to create advance security if the throttle switch is turn on when the throttle is not at -100.
Thank you.Anthony
I'll add this to the list of ideas. Thanks!
Has a video for the sticky throttle cut been made.
wow soooooo easy cheers bud
It's a matter of preference but I would put the throttle cut on an up switch position ^ (eg SG^) rather a center - (eg SG- as used in this video). The up ^ position is the default off position and it make sense to power on with throttle cut enabled which will be enforced by the default pre-flight checks. You can change all the pre-flight warning checks of course but unless there is good reason it's probably better to consistently keep the default so you don't have to remember how each model is configured.
press all the knobs Exactly - It's a matter of preference. This is a demo showing how to do it, not a recommendation on where to put it. ;)
Happy flying!
Great video, I just needed this, thanks.
Just subscribed
Thank you a lot! You have help me a lot! :D
Sticky function does not unstick when the switch is reset in simulation. On the radio L02 automatically stays on when you push down the switch and does not wait for L1 and -99 throttle. I tried with a horus, q7, x9lite. I'm running the lates firmware as of Oct 2019.
Great vid. nice and simple
thanks... as always you have the answer
Thank you, this is very useful! :)
Hi thanks for all your kind and helpful videos, I have one doubt that how can we limit the throttle or any channel(s) to some say 70 percent of total in case we detect that battery is less than any threshold value?
I'm sure you can. Look at special functions, logical switches and the telemetry values.. Happy flying!
Brother like you said we can hold the throttle channel ,
But at the same time how to use same throttle on channel no 16.
by flipping that switch ( SG -) and when we flip switch SG up
it has to come back to normal position
That isn't hard to do in OpenTX. Check out the OpenTX Mix School playlist.. Best of luck!
Спасибо!
Hi, Like to know 1. the difference between Throttle cut & Throttle hold in RC Heli / Plane. 2. What is the use each. Thanks.
It depends on there being a consensus on those terms in the hobby.. ;) I've always looked on them as the same thing..
I would like to have it the other way around. I don't want to accedentally disarm when flying. So the trottle must be closed before the disarm switch will work. How can I do that?
In cleanflight or betaflight I use failsafe kill switch. Much safer. I always use it to land my quad specially when I always have airmode on. when I land I hover just a few cm above the ground and activate the failsafe kill switch.
+Jack Truong Yep, us too!
Painless360 I learnt this from your video on cleanflight failsafe setup. Thankyou!
Hi Lee, please can I use the same method to use as an arm/disarm on my electric aircraft to save fingers when messing about on the model when the radio needs to be on ? Kindest regards, Dave W 😊
Yes you can and that is something that I would recommend. See my OpenTX Plane Setup videos.. Best of luck!
My switches don't appear in the SF menu! only trims, act, on, tele and FMO selections appear
Nice video. I tried to set mine up last night on a twin engine model (channels 1 and 6) and it seemed to work. Only problem was that when powering up the plane, the ESCs wouldn't arm unless I enabled the throttle. Any way around this? The only thing I did differently was that I didn't set the value to -100. But like I said, it still worked if I were to arm the ESCs first by having the switch in the "throttle arm" position upon battery connect.
+ZippinZim Probably due to the value of the channel not being one that the ESCs are happy with, I'd look at tweaking the values on the throttle when the mixes are being used. Best of luck!
That did the trick. Sorry, should have tried it before asking you. Changed the value to -100 and works like a charm. With the value at "0" the transmitter was essentially at half throttle thus preventing the ESCs from arming. Thanks for your videos! They are quite helpful!
You're a blessing! Anyway, I have to as you this painless, is the Taranis reliable? The guys at my flying field tell me to get rid of my Taranis asap as they think the tx is garbage and are telling me to buy a JR or Futaba. Is it true that the Taranis has reliability issues? I personally love the Taranis and its functionality but I'm scared that I may lose models as I'm beginning to get into glow airplanes which are expensive. Would like to know your thoughts on this.
+Gtx560ti The switches and sliders are not the highest quality. See our video on radio selection that mentions about considering using what others around you do but beware of snobbery. Not every radio is perfect and each to their own.. ;)
Thanks for the reply Painless. What radio do you use?
I am a big fan of the Spektrum kit, I have a DX7 and a DX9 as well as the Taranis. I use the Taranis 80% of the time as it's so versatile..
hi Painless, would you have any videos explaining how this works with gas engines? newcomers to gas engines like me who might be also having a difficult time transitioning from Electric to gas?
Not really, we only use electric here. A gas engine does need two 'low throttle' setting though. The first is for idle where the throttle is zero in the radio but the motor is idling. The second is 'thr-cut' which is a slightly lower value and that closes the carb down completely stopping the engine. The second is the value you set a throttle cut to. Hope that makes sense..
Thank you for useful video series. I would like to enable/disable throttle cut/hold using SH switch (momentary switch) . If I toggle SH switch first time, throttle cut enable. The second time toggling the SH switch will disable the throttle cut. It is like "alternate on/off" function in futaba. Is it possible to do that in taranis? Thank you in advance.
+Kittikun Jitpairod I'm sure it is. You probably need to look at using a few logical switches to hold a 'sticky' value (you could use an unused channel' and then use that to override the throttle in Special Functions. Best of luck with it.
hello great channel, so much feedback.
i have the same taranis, but i don't have all the sounds that you show in the video eg: thract a thrdis, do you have a sound pack or is this supposed to be default ?
thanks you very much :)
+Louis Grellet ok looks like the sexy amber pack, my bad :)
Personally I prefer a sticky throttle cut that means the throttle must be at the bottom before the throttle can be live. Full details here... www.rc-soar.com/opentx/setups/stickythrot/stickythrot.htm
Hello could this be used for a multi-rotor quadcopter and use it as a second arming switch thanks
I wouldn't. The normal arming switch you setup in Beta/Clean/iNavflight is more than enough. Happy flying!
Good afternoon, Buddy! Do you have any video of your channel showing the speed curve and Picht? I live in Brazil and I found no video here! Since I thanked you.
I'm not sure what you're asking. All of the video on the OpenTX setting and tips are in the 'OpenTX mix School' playlist.. Best of luck..
I've just bought a Taranis after using a DX18. For electric model I used to create a zero throttle (-100) curve and assign is to a switch. After playing with Companion I see you can also do the same thing with the Taranis e.g. two curves (a zero and normal) on a switch assigned at input. Are there any pros or cons in do either via special functions or via curves?
Welcome to the world of OpenTX and the Taranis! I too came from the world of Spektrum so was initially confused at the power and flexibility of the new radio - the setups are very different. You can do most things several ways on the radio too, adding to the confusion. You can do it in the way you're using (that's a very DX18 way of thinking ;) ) or you can simply use the special functions to override the throttle channel value with -100 and assign a switch.. Best of luck!
is it possible to play throttle active sound repeatativly if the switch is active and throttle is at 0 ?
This is so complicated. Spektrum FTW!
+RC Fermata00 This radio is very powerful but isn't for everyone..
I'm going to make the switch sometime in the future. :P
Thanks for this tip. I want to setup a "oh crap switch" that overrides my 6 position mode switch for arduplane to rth. I set it up as you said and also selected the correct channel and enabled it but somehow it just doesn't work. Is there anything else I have to look out for?
Could be lots of things - what troubleshooting have you already tried?
@@Painless360 I tried overriding other channels but this also doesn't work. When I flick the switch I visible that the function is active (Switch Name become bold).
can we add another step to this so that when you re enable throttle it only activates after we bring throttle to zero. which logic switch wold you use for that?
See the first video in the 'OpenTX Mix school'. We have loads of video on setting up mixes that cover all of the basics many times. If you still need help then let me know..
Can you do a mix, on brushed quad, when to turn and use the jaw, 20% throttle will increase, left and right ?
Yes you can - see our 'OpenTX Mix School' for the ideas on how to tackle that. You need to mix yaw into throttle but make sure that the increase is always positive. Best of luck!
The throttle "tracks" used in this video are not be available by default. They are from 'The "Amber" Transmitter Sound Pack'. Assuming your Taranis is configured to use English you need to add them to your SD card in the SOUNDS\en folder.
press all the knobs That's right, this video is part of a series and we have already covered the Amber pack. To watch all of the videos in this series you can visit - ruclips.net/p/PLYsWjANuAm4rtLZuLU2eSTc3svqWx-pa1
Happy flying!
I'm talking about the 6g and 3d function! Throttle curve.
+RONALDO AMARAL RC are you asking about heli setup? I've not covered that..
Painless360 I'm talking about the normal and 3d flight accelerator curve!
Painless360 I understood friend, you have no knowledge in the Heli Setup! Thanks for the attention.
Sorry, still not following. Can you be a lot more verbose?
Painless360 How to set up the acceleration curve in the Taranis to use in the 935mm helicopter! I live in Brazil and I am using a test translator to speak to you, I find the translator is not functioning properly!
I have maybe a stupid question, but... When I fly quadcopter (Radio Taranis and CC3D Cleanflight) and accidentally I turn off the radio, engines continues to rotate. How to set it, to engines have been stopped? Sorry for my poor English :)
+Paulus FPV you need to setup the failsafe. Best of luck.
thanks
Haven't got Override in my Special Function couldn't select it!
Version of stuff would help me look at this for you...
@@Painless360 the latest one Version 2.3.14 thank you if you can mate.
I've not got a radio running that version to try.. If I update one in the near future I'll see..
@@Painless360 ok thanks for trying no worries.
i could only set the throttle cut on one switch, no other switches seemed top respond and i didnt have all the sounds that you had, v 2.3.7 (weird)
See my video on the 'Amber' voice pack for OpenTX.. It's all covered in my OpenTX Mix School playlist.
Painless360 I figured out the switches, they wernt turned on at the main menu so that’s why they weren’t working when setting up a model 👍 thanks for your help 🙏 also when I upgraded the firmware to the latest version, I could no longer see ‘bind’ in the menu, after going through every page trying to find it, the module was set to off, as soon as I toggled it to on, D16 and Bind reappeared 🥴 this is a good radio but rather complicated 🙃
so i have a 3 position switch set for manual mode, atti, and failsafe for the 3 positions. how can i make it so that manual mode will not allow throttle to go above 85%, atti above 90%, and failsafe is failsafe so that doesn't matter? i still want the full range of motion of the throttle i just want it to max out at 85%, basically change the mix somehow.
I'd use the same process as we use in the Dual Rate videos. Best of luck!
Hi Painless360, do you know how to make a switch that would bring the ailerons and elevators trim to neutral?
ruclips.net/video/UDnygW_Oc7w/видео.html Is that what you're after?
Thank you, very helpful. However I found an easier solution to my need to center the sticks (if the trims are way over half way the Vector AP would not engage) to engage RTH in my Vector. I just programmed the RTH switch both ailerons and elevator override to cero. So when I switch to RTH, both surfaces go to neutral. Super easy, no need an extra step. Many thanks for your reply!
How can I do this in turnigy i6s?
Idc about voice alerts I just need the functionality to cut the throttle with a switch.
Sorry, not sure. I've not tried it on the i6s.. sorry.
My X9 Lite is missing these sounds on 2.3.1?
Amber pack?
what would a throttle cut/hold switch do on a quadcopter? any reason to use it?
As most flight controllers have a disarm/arm sequence anyway it's of less use on a multicopter. I tend to use it on wings and planes for hand launching more than anything else. Essential for RC helicopters though!
Thanks that is what I thought. I want to say your videos are AMAZING. I just got in to quadcopters (used to fly rc planes years ago with a dx7) and bought a taranis and your videos are a god send! I am going through your taranis playlist now and I have learned so much!
Thanks for the feedback, glad the videos are helping! Happy flying!
I'm using taransis x9d i can see your channel monitor level are zero but my shows values in it. Is there way to solve this issue im new . Help would be appreciated
No need to post a question lots of times on the channel - see my answer on another of your questions on this topic. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 thanks for replying
@Painless360 Hi i don't have any of these sounds. My Firmware VERS is 2.1.9 OpenTX X9D Plus. EEPROM 217. Please help ???
You need to check they are on the SD card. See my Opentx upgrading video... best of luck
Override option doesn't show up for me. Is that only on the "plus" edition? I'm using Taranis X9d
+Tommysdaddy114 Check the version of OpenTX is the same as mine. Best of luck.
does it helps on your Taranis? I have Q X7 & opentx-x7 2.2.1 (cca71808) vers. & doesn't have the override function too.
I can't find those tracks to play.
Google 'Amber sound pack' and see my Opentx videos.. Best of luck
Is this the Same as a Arming Switch?
Yes. For models without a flight controller..
@@Painless360 and with flight Controller?
I don't understand the question
.
getting forgetful had to look this up again...lol
how is your taranis backlight orange?
+TameTurtlez Check out the video on that very topic in the playlist ;)
+Painless360 aahah! gosh i like this channel so much!
:D Hope it helps!
i can't find function "thrdis" and "thract", i user taranis x9d plus fw 2.2
+QUAN NGUYEN you'll need to download and install the 'Amber voice pack'. See the other videos in the series for more detail.
Hi guy, i can't file link download Amber voice pack, can you help me?
