    Thank you so much L. Yesterday I've written you for help. I was desperate and couldn't assign a flight-mode-switch. Within an hour you referred to one of your videos. This video was of great help and I can fly my Quad now. Once again Thank you so much.

      You're welcome. Glad it sorted you. After this I may make a video on adding a Taranis to a quad, step by step. We did that for a plane and it has been received very well... Happy flying!

    Hello mister, I am the one who talked to you about Chinese clone Pixhawk board. I just had mine installed and all calibrated today, it flew like a dream. Tried 6 modes with M8N GPS, no problem at all! I want to thank you for all your APM videos, I coudnt have figured everything out so quickly without watching them (even though they were not meant for PX4). I am still looking forward to your tutorials on pixhawk. Cheers!

    Another fantastic video :D
    I don't understand why so much people said that the Taranis is complicated. It's not so different than my Futaba radio, the huge difference is the amount of parameters and settings.
    When my Taranis will arrive, i will be ready to use it without any worry because of your sweet job :)
    Thank you so much and have a great week

      ABMNS PRODUCTION Thanks for the feedback - the OpenTX software on the radio is very powerful but the basics are still easy. I hope the series will take a new owner from the basics to being able to do some quite complex things without overloading with complex steps.
      Happy flying!

    Hi PainLess360 :)I do Hope that everything are just as you wish them to be for you, and that you always are having fun with what ever you are doing( Because that is the most important isnt it? ;) ) About the CC3D Problem. One must take the last line ( Number 8) from CC3D side and change it with the Signal line which goes to the first 3 pins on the " D4r ii" Reciever side and WooooLLA, PPM works like Magic. I do hope that this helps other people too.Thank you again Brother for all your kind words and help :) GOOD LUCK AND C U ON ____ ;)

    Hi painless, I have thanked you before for different videos and thank you again and again for this and all of your priceless tutorials, would you mind if I ask what camera do you use to record youtube video tutorials? +L0ND0N200012 Actually it's nothing special. I use a Canon Powershot camera. For audio I use a condensing mic as the audio pickup on the camera doesn't clean up very well. Hope that helps!

    Great video as usual, happy to see your on Team Taranis now. could you show how to use a third gimbal/stick on the tx to control a gimbal/pan tilt on the aircraft. I have read about it on forums but would really appreciate seeing it. Thanks for all the awesome videos!

    • @donatedpants420
      @donatedpants420 9 лет назад

      Painless360 Cool, the guy on the forum was using a replacement Taranis gimbal, but i was thinking something more like this amzn.com/B00JY7D3HC or even something salvaged from an old xbox controller if you want to get real DIY. He was using it to control a 3-axis gimbal (tilt/yaw) but I was thinking of something i can just mash up or down to control camera tilt on my 250 class.

      I see! Let me see what I can do as I don't want to create too many holes in the TARANIS! I can show you how to do this using the standard sliders easily - would that be useful?

    • @donatedpants420
      @donatedpants420 9 лет назад

      Painless360 That's cool I can understand you not wanting to get too far down the taranis hole just yet. I was just thinking after covering the basics you might want to show an interesting more advanced mod that no one else has really touched on yet. Yeah I tried the sliders first but its a bit tricky to return to center, always leaves me thinking i'm a bit off and this detracts from the locked in feeling you need for fast low flying. I'm using head tracking from my googles now and while better its not without faults.If you have any interest in messing around with it I'd be happy to send you one, it would be worth the $15 to keep me from doing something dumb to my Tx

    Lee, I have now watched all your videos and read a lot on the OpenTX university. Today I got my Taranis to "speak" with my helicopter. A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU. I love your videos because you explain the difference steps so well and if it weren't for you, well hell, I wouldn't be able to program the APM, Pixhawk or the Taranis. I'm thinking about making a video on how to setup a standard 450 to work with the Taranis. A little bit more tricky than Spektrum, but once you get the hang of it man do I love it.
    Now since you have done so much for us (your subscribers) and others, I was wondering if there is anything I can do for you, or we collectively. What I mean is, is there anything we can sponsor you with?
    Posted this here due to number of showings.

    Great video so far, I'm learning a lot!! But you really lost me with calibrating the throttle in microseconds. Where do you get these numbers from (1058, 1062, 1960)? They appear out of the blue? Thanks

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 лет назад +1

      +Axel Thieffry They correspond to the default settings of the ESCs I'm using. See some of the series that cover the basics (Introduction to Remote Control etc) for more detail. Best of luck.

    Thank you very much Lee. Highly appreciating that you take the time and make this videos for us to understand. Love it. Could you just please help out explaining the throttle range. I do not understand how you get your numbers. Is there a formula one can use for every ESC or how do I obtain the correct numbers? Also, is that range for the other channels as well or just for the Throttle? Coming to think about the Pixhawk as well. Thank you.

      +Amir Tahami Which numbers do you mean? % or PWM?

      I use the servo menu to see the actual PWM values and reduce the travel on the channel to make sure that they don't go over 2000 and under 1000. Hope that makes sense..

    • @lokiamir5029
      @lokiamir5029 9 лет назад

      I understand that, but I don't understand why you are keeping it between 1000 and 2000. Sorry if these questions seems stupid, but I'm trying to understand why the should go below 1000 and above 2000. Thank you.

    When adding an additional channel in the Taranis to control the D4R-II in PPM mode as you did with adding the 5th channel in this tutorial, is it essential that you create Channel 5 in the INPUTS screen (page 5/12 of the Taranis) , and then create a Channel 5 in the MIXER screen (page 6/12) to assign it to?
    I have seen other tutorials where they just assign additional channels in the MIXER screen only and do nothing in the INPUTS screen. Can you please explain this?

  • @0nec00ler
    @0nec00ler 8 лет назад

    Hi. Thank you very much for your tutorials - they are really helpful and I often use it as a guidance in my setups. I have a question: why do you limit throttle range on the radio and what is the problem having range 900 to 2100 on flight controller? LibrePilot firmware handles this fine in my setup without any issues. Is it just you preference or there is something else behind this (for example CleanFlight 8) )? Thanks!

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 лет назад

      Great question. We do cover this in a few videos but here's the short version. 'Normal' range for any channel is expected to be between 1000-2000 microseconds. Although many ESCs and some flight controllers will support ranges outside of this 'norm' many others will consider values outside as indication of a problem and could enable 'failsafe'. Best of luck!

    Hi there, I think your videos are just fantastic, well done , I have learnt so much. Now I do have a question for you if you would be so kind. Somehow I have managed to rename my 3 position switch SE, it is now F M and it only works as a two position switch (i.e it only see's -100.0 to 0.0 and not +100.0 position)

    • @Painless360

    yes I apologize for my rudeness I was at my wits end with trying to figure it out that day. I still have the problem. and no matter how many times I go through the setup wizard it just won't recognize it as a three position switch. I know others have had this same issue but I can't find anything about it.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 лет назад

      +Tim Bell Lots to check then - have you checked that you get a full range of 'movement' from that channel on the radio? Can you attach a servo to that output on the Rx and see it move into three distinct positions? If so then you can manually configure the radio settings in the GUI using the sliders to get it - use the video for reference on how I've set mine up...

  • @Jarcademis
    @Jarcademis 9 лет назад

    Great video! Many small quad pilots are using the Taranis with an LRS module to take advantage of the 433 frequency. Will you do a video on one of these setups with the EZUHF module and the mini 4 channel Rx?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад +1

      Jason Campbell Not likely but I will be adding a DSM module and the process is the same. 433 will give you much more range due to the longer wavelength and properties of the 400Mhz band.
      Remember that flying beyond of 'line of sight' for models in most places is now on the 'naughty' list.. Check the local laws and guidance so you don't get caught out.
      Happy flying!

    • @Jarcademis
      @Jarcademis 9 лет назад

      Very good advice. You are correct about the 400 MHz band. My choice is mainly due to the penetration and choices of 2.4ghz video Tx frequencies I can have with the 433 control Tx. As a sub I am looking forward to your videos. They are informative and very well done. Thanks again for the Taranis series!

      Funny you mention that. I will start my build soon and plan to take my technicians test before I transmit on 433. So it'll be 2.4 and 5.8 for now. Unfortunately the town I live in has so few ham operators and I'll have to travel to take my test but I know it will be worth it. I'm guessing you must be certified.

    Hi Lee,
    I have question about part of the video which starts @ 8:52.
    You are setting up INPUT - Buzz (SH) / Mixer name (L Model).
    Could You explain for what is this option and how to make it working in mission planner for pixhawk ? (my Mission Planner can see this CH6, while radio calibration but i do not know how to use it).
    One more question about TARANIS X9D Plus - I couldn't find the video for setting up the failsafe in the radio (correct me If I am wrong)
    Could You advice me what to do ? While switching on the Taranis I have warning "Failsafe not set" but I did it in Mission Planner (thanks to Your video: (5/8) APM 2.5/2.6/3.1 - Throttle Failsafe Setup )
    Many thanks for Your hard & great work !

    was passing through your channel and this question came to my mind, might be a bit dumb but i really don't know. Now some Tx have 16 channels extendable upto 32. but how on earth can they extend it when they don't have spare ports for adding additional switches ....like in taranis X9E they have additional empty slots for adding switches but in other taranis radios they don't.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  5 лет назад +1

      In reality the maximum number of channels you use on a model would be 16, that's 2 x X8Rs bound for the first 8 and then the second or one Sbus Rx. The other channels can be used for logical programming and organising of other pieces for complicated mixers in the radio. Happy flying!

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      This is tricky to do as you really need a Smart Port current sensor with an X8R and a LUA script on the radio to translate the mAh consumed in to a percentage of the available mAh available in the pack (usually 80-90% of the total pack rating).
      I don't have a current sensor so would recommend looking into this in the mean time if this is something you need..
      Best of luck.

      Sorry but think it was more my wording. I'm very new to this. I maybe should of said status like you said. Is it possible using this setup to get the taranis to read the voltage and then make a noise once it reaches a set level? I.e. when it is getting low and you should stop flying.
      Thanks for the videos again was watching how to balance props before. Great tips!

  • @MrStubbs8157
    @MrStubbs8157 9 лет назад

    The only thing I dont understand is, why you created Inputs for the switches. They seem to work just fine with adding them in the mix, as far as I see it on my new Taranis. Can that be? Perhaps the Naze bypass the "Input" and do buzzer and mode switch also without creating an input first....
    Any comment on this? Or am I not seeing the obvious? :)

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      MrStubbs1981 When using the raw inputs in the mixes you cannot apply expo, d/r, offsets, assign them to flight modes, add etc etc. Using an input allows you to tweak the controls as you need them to before they are fed into the mixer.
      Hope this makes sense.

    • @MrStubbs8157

      Painless360 Jep, I see. For ordinary mode switch it isnt too bad to not use input config. But you are right: Why not :)

    Hi Lee.
    I'm new to Taranis, but not to CC3D. As a few people have asked, I'm having issues with getting through the TX wizard. It only recognises Throttle.
    I have the D4RII with jumper pin between 3&4.
    Tried CC3D pin 3 and pin 8 for sig, and still nothing.
    Is there anything else in the radio to set up for PPM?
    In the GCS RC inputs should be set to PPM right?
    Its obviously something simple, but i'm not being it.
    Cheers Lee

      You can do things to the inputs in the INPUTS tab that you can't do to the control in the MIXER tab. Have a look at the options when adding an INPUT (expo, dual rates etc).. Happy flying!

    Hi Lee, when you connect to open pilot its for cc3d. how do I do this step for APM? I'm trying set my throttle failsafe and everything I've tried so far doesn't work. The values are too low (i've posted on your other video re the problem) and the board won't arm. I figure if I configure the end points like you've done in this video it might work? Secondly, do i have to re-bind to my rx when I've set up a new channel?

    So I have a question about the endpoints part. I run a Taranis, x4r sbus receiver and cc3d. Should I change the endpoints on my setup or just fly it. Emax 12a 2204-2300kv 3s. It's flys just fine. Is there a certain reason to change them? I'm confused

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 лет назад

      +Invitingsauce If it works then great! Some parts don't like it when the channels go outside the expected ranges (Cleanflight for example). Normal channel ranges are from 1000-2000 but the Taranis likes to push the values past those points. Happy flying!

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  5 лет назад

      Yes you can but most receivers can support only 4,6 or 8 using PWM outputs or 16 if you are using S-bus (or PWM 16 if you bind two 8 channel receivers to the same model memory). Some outputs can be used for mixes that never make it to teh receiver so having more than you need is useful..

    Hi. Your videos have helped me immensely. I'm having trouble with something though. Openpilot isn't showing any inputs from my taranis. I have everything setup just like this and have tried every option (ppm-pin8, ppm+no one shot, ect) and in the transmitter wizard it doesn't detect any inputs at all. I've tried 2 different FCs (CC3D Atoms) 2 different recievers (d4rii), 4 different jumpers and still the same thing. No recognized inputs at all. It shows that is bound, green light on, telemetry will say its lost if I unplug the battery. Could it be a bad taranis? Thanks for any help.

    • @ForwardFlight
      @ForwardFlight 8 лет назад

      Painless360 D4r-II. I have tried it with two of these receivers. It binds, green light is on, telemetry is working. I have the 1,2 and 8 pin connected on channel 1 with a jumper on 3 and 4 and PPM8pin chosen in openpilot. I set up the taranis models and can see all the channels working in the monitor on the TX. But I get zero input recognition in openpilot. I am stumped.

    • @ForwardFlight
      @ForwardFlight 8 лет назад

      Painless360 Yes sure I could. I thought the same thing too, if it was the TX it wouldn't bind, right?. Could it be the receivers weren't ever updated? I just got them and the ad said they were updated for ppm. Anyway thanks! I'll link you the video when I get it uploaded.

    Hi,
    At 11:05 in the video, when you go from setting up the model on the TX to testing it out on the CC3D, at what stage of setup of the CC3d should we be at? Do we complete the ESC calibration alone? When do we bind the TX to the RX in this case?
    I have watched your CC3DSetup with Librepilot Video and it leads me to the transmitter setup wizard, and that's where I'm stuck (at 22:26 in this video - ruclips.net/video/p1EhSYNa0pM/видео.html&spfreload=1#t=870.174725)
    Everything is setup exactly the same on my Taranis X9D plus, CC3D, D4R-II as shown in the videos. All controls are properly calibrated as well. The receiver and transmitter are bound and the receiver has a green light on it. But I cannot proceed past 11:48 in this video (3/12 taranis setup).. Moving the throttle doesn't proceed to the next step on the computer.
    is there something else that I am missing? I'd really appreciate all help.

      When I connect an individual ESC to the D4R-II - one channel at a time, the motor responds to every input (T,A,R and E) perfectly. This leads me to believe that the CC3D board itself is having a problem. I have double checked that I had everything configured so far as shown in this and other videos. So I am exchanging my CC3D for a new one.
