My first car was a black 1994 SVX LSi and I sold it after 2 years for a VW GTI and I still regret making that decision to this day. It’s so hard to find nice examples of these now a days, I wish I could go back in time and stop myself from making this mistake
These things were always so quirky and interesting to me. My fondest memory of seeing one in the wild was an SVX that had a mug full of coffee on the roof for a solid 30 seconds or so before flying off when taking a right hand turn.
Awesome video Matt, I was excited for this one...like everyone else in the comments, I reeeeally wanted one of these when I was in high school! This one is in great condition and such low miles for 31 years old!
I had two SVX already and I love them. The only real weak spot is the automatic gear box. One was converted to a manual with the gear box out of the 2.5 Legacy with just some minor changes. It was also way more responsive and bit quicker too. Also very nice is how smooth the engine runs when it is warmed up. I really love them :-)
I always wanted one of these cars when they came out. They look so completely unlike all of the other sedans at the time, and it was impossible to be bored by one of these and how they looked. The only complaint I remember at the time from people who owned them, was that the smaller windows were a bit of an annoyance at a drive-thru. But looking at it with you driving it, they don't seem that small.
They work fine in a drive thru; far better than a DeLorean or Countach would. Yes, you have to do some maneuvering, but it works better than one would think.
It’s one of my favorite cars of all time. If Subaru came out with one with the Turbo 2.4 making more power then the outgoing STi I’d be going to the dealership today
That was quite the CD premium car at the time. Those seats remind me of a Saab’s front seats, which I think is a good thing. The dash and gear shifter are the only items that reveal its true age, in my opinion.
I live in the Midwest and have only ever seen one of these in the wild on one occasion to my knowledge. Either way, glad to see you review the SVX, Matt! Love the older car reviews.
Good days back then. A lot of affordable sports cars on the road Dodge conquest Chrysler starion Acura integra Mitsubishi 3000GT was a little more expensive but still nice. Even the old escort GT was not bad.
I remember this is the company that also made the Justy which was todays equivalent of the Mitusbishi Mirage so their reputation wasn't pretty back then. SVX prices were a really tough sell, but at least Subaru tried and brought us some fun products in the '90s and 00's like the SVX, Baja, 2.5 RS and bugeye WRX. Heck, they were building Outback & Forrester 25 years before the rest of the world went crazy for crossovers.
I had really wanted one of these but not many sold. At the time they said they were using it to test new ideas but I did end up with a first gen Legacy which I loved.
As a kid I thought these cars were cool still do. Admittedly I'd love to have that engine in my 2011 Forester it would be a great match with the 5 speed.
These were such cool cars, and rare even in the 90's. I test drove one of these way back when in Boulder, CO. They had to jump start it. I scared the salesman on the test drive and I was just driving like I normally did! Cool car, but with the auto I didn't really appreciate the naturally aspirated engine.
I miss when vehicles had throttle cables physically attached to the accelerator pedal. The throttle delay in new cars really ruins the experience in some cars.
My son owns six of them (a couple as parts cars) as he is repairing them and selling them as a hobby.......very cool with the partial side windows......just too much car for Subaru when it was made, too pricy for the Subaru typical buyer....
I've on my 2nd UK car, went to the 30th Anniversary last year, but if your car's being reviewed, CLEAN IT! & Don't do it in some sh1tty looking car park! 😂

You did what was right for you then. There is no going back.
I found a black SVX today in my town. Mint condition, I’m gonna try to see if they will sell it too me.

Hell yeah..back with some old cars to review🔥

Thanks Adam, glad you liked the video!

That’s awesome, thanks for sharing your ownership experiences with them Marc!
How much to convert one to manual?
@@fortheloveofnoise We did it with used parts and I think it was around 1100 Euros or so all together.
I love this. Matt do more 80's and 90's car reviews.
I definitely want to! Just hard to find them, and I usually have to wait for owners to offer them.
Amazing car. Saw one of these on site with a manual swap, 5M. Great design and so understated that it confuses people JUST enough when they see it 😅.

I literally giggled with delight when I saw the title of the review in my notifications. Can’t wait to watch this through!
Haha I’m glad you were excited for it!

Great review Matt. Love these quirky car reviews
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it!
this is a unique find. Good job. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Edwin, glad you liked it!
Love this classic review! Keep ‘em coming
My favorite subaru! I have 2 of them.
Really funny. I had two :-D - Dark Red and white Version.
Very cool! Have they treated you well?
@MattMaranMotoring yes! One is more of a project, the other is a daily since 2017 and no issues!
@@jacobmosier9880 Great to hear!
I own 4 of them:) just for collection and fun😊
I had a maroon one in the late 90’s. My uncle was the parts manager at Subaru HQ in Jersey.
Very cool! Did yours treat you well?
@@MattMaranMotoring yeah had it all through high school and college 225k miles. Got tboned sometime in 2007 with it.
@@thecappy Wow that's a shame, glad it was a great experience though otherwise!
This was great!
Thanks!
awesome video - loving your game plan for 2023
Thanks Steve! I’ll be doing new stuff again for a little bit but will work in more used videos all throughout this year.
Great car. Nostalgia kicking in - in infotainment!!!!!!!!!! Focus on driving.
Good days back then. A lot of affordable sports cars on the road

Acura integra

Well this is a find. I’m sure it’s the weirdest car some have never seen until you’re video. Great analysis of the design. Thanks, Matt!
Thanks Franz!
My brother found this car driving around our hometown south of Pittsburgh! Looked awesome!
Yessssss. MOAR used car reviews!!!
Always wanted one. Maybe one of these days. Cool car for sure!
I hope you can get one someday!
Seeing one of these on a dealer lot in the late nineties was the first time I ever noticed Subaru as a brand.
I remember this is the company that also made the Justy which was todays equivalent of the Mitusbishi Mirage so their reputation wasn't pretty back then. We loved ours!! Should’ve kept it
Throwback! Let's Go!
Pretty interesting vehicle from back in the day, good review!
Thanks Eddie!
These things are awesome, would love to see one in worldrally blue!
That would be awesome!
As a kid I thought these cars were cool still do.
Admittedly I'd love to have that engine in my 2011 Forester it would be a great match with the 5 speed.
Always liked these cars
RUclipsr Smeedia engine swapped his VA STI with a turbo on this engine and is shooting for 1200WHP.
I have a respect for the SVX.
2023 Matt: Time to bring Vintage Car Fan RUclips page back ❤️
I’m impressed you remember that channel! Unfortunately it’s not monetized anymore so it’ll probably stay dormant 😕
Man, wish you can go over to Japan and review the REAL Crown sedan, Mark X, Sai and Harrier from Toyota.
Yeah I could spend a year in Japan reviewing all the cool cars they have haha. I’d love to go someday!
Matt it’s probably a lot like my 13 legacy 3.6R the brake pedal has just quite amount of bit of pedal travel, my Subaru has always been like that.
Love it!

My favorite Subaru
I got to say, I'm very happy with my 2013 STI hatch tho lol
What a cool car!
The XT had even more extreme styling.
That leather still looks good
What a cool car
I had a 1992 Cougar XR7 - it had keyless entry too. I think keyless entry had been around long before the early 90s?
The earliest I ever remember seeing it is the mid-late 90s, but I haven’t driven too much from before then.
Wow, a Subaru not hobbled with a CVT. The good ol' days...
Its a good all around car, as a daily and track, plus is 20$ a month to ensure, or 30$ for a right hand model.
See if you can ever gain access to a Bricklin SV-1. Such an unusual vehicle with an interesting mission.
You seriously don’t see these at all I’ve only seen less than 5 in my life and this was back in 2010s
I miss when vehicles had throttle cables physically attached to the accelerator pedal. The throttle delay in new cars really ruins the experience in some cars.
The foglights makes it look like a Chevy Lumina or Chrysler LHS
Currently looking at buying one to replace my 2002 Impreza. Just unsure about the eg33 as I don't know much about it yet.
Nice
Matt: This is the 1992 Subaru SVX
Me: The what?
Looks like a 1989 Subaru
+999 SVX Community social credit!
Porsche helped out Subaru on some of the design on the EZ engines.
That car is in great shape for being a Pennsylvania car
My son owns six of them (a couple as parts cars) as he is repairing them and selling them as a hobby.......very cool with the partial side windows......just too much car for Subaru when it was made, too pricy for the Subaru typical buyer....
How is that thing still running!
Wrxguy reviewing an svx…nice
S209 are about 70k now......
I've on my 2nd UK car, went to the 30th Anniversary last year, but if your car's being reviewed, CLEAN IT! & Don't do it in some sh1tty looking car park! 😂
The driving lights and the black wheels do nothing for the car unfortunately.
I ve seen one in Poland 😁😁
Nice!
@@MattMaranMotoring Thank u Matt🔥🔥
Hey Matt we need better in car audio. Great find otherwise
It’s just these roads that they’ve ruined around where I film, they’re all rough now.
Make Subarus weird again!
Or as I like to call it, the Subaru 300ZX 😂
🐺🖤🐧🐧🐧🦈
JEJETOJEJARIO....LOL
That steering wheel looks depressed.
Man the 90s were a bad time in human engineering. Just awful
Not digging the old cars. Just honest feedback Matt. Im sure people think of it but dont say it.
