Entertaining video. I have one of these and it was my daily driver for about 10 years I'm now restoring it. It's a great driving car. Some things you got wrong on the video: The windows were not designed that way because they were trendy. They were designed that way for aerodynamics. At the time the SVX had the lowest drag coefficient of any production car. SVX was designed as a 2+2 grand touring car, not a sports car or for competition. If you've ever driven one you'd know that eating up highway miles in comfort is where it excels. SVX stands for "Safely Vehicle Experimental" So once again, this project was not aimed at competitive motorsport but as a competent road vehicle. I'd say that this is one of Subaru's most misunderstood products. it's commercial failure had more to do with the high price point than anything else. It was a $36,000 Subaru which was BMW money back then The brand didn't have the status to justify such an expensive car nor did it have the proper marketing to prepare the way for a new kind of Subaru. This was era of the Subaru GL wagon. The Impreza hadn't even been conceived Anyway I could go on for days about this car. I love mine It was so ambitious and while they made some mistakes when you find one in good condition and drive it you understand why it's special.
That's epic that you're bringing your SVX back to life bro, my dad has a 96 SVX. Do you have any links to articles about the SVX being the most aerodynamic production car of its time? I tried finding some stuff online, but I can't find anything.
@@johnnyjohnathon7381 shouldn't be hard to find, look for best CD of cars, which is coefficient of drag, but the true measure is CDA which includes area, the svx is still quite aerodynamic, but the Alcyone before it was better
The windows are actually great by design. Keep in mind this is a vehicle of it's time. There's zero cup holders but you get ash trays. In Japan it was common for the biusness man to smoke. The windows will pull smoke out of the cab at speed and keep rain out of the cab while still venting the cab. The biggest downside was the weight. Adds almost 600lbs to the car
Good stuff man, I love seeing content about the SVX. It deserves more recognition in the car world. I'm glad you didn't shy away from criticizing it, it's a weird car lol. But it's a pretty cool weird car, and that's from somebody that owns one.
Giorgetto Guigiaro also designed the 1st generation Lexus GS, which is also a pretty weird design. The rear light kind of remind me of this car's lights.
I was just searching this car up a few days ago trying to find out more about it’s weird design and conveniently this vid popped up on my recommended today
Can't buy parts for this car anymore, I've got rod bearings rattling and cannot find any new ones!? I need a set otherwise I need to know what motor I can swap into this car!?
@@markroden It's OK. Live and learn. You'll do better next time. Check out the Big Car channel ruclips.net/user/BigCar2 to pick up some tips on how to do a deep dive into automotive history.
I daily drove mine for about 4 years, it was only slightly awkward to grab a drive through item or have someone order from the passenger seat But I did basically develop a script for the inevitable questions about the car, which almost always start with asking about the windows. Every time you go anywhere lol
The SVX (safety vehicle ten)( honoring Malcolm brickins SV1(safety vehicle one) and subaru's tenth vehicle version and to this day, way ahead of its time, Highly misunderstood and NOT a sports car and was never meant to be.. Performance, Luxury, AWD, Semi Exotic, Coupe, that's it....looks good in any color, going any direction, narrator hasn't a clue.

Well said, I have one, use as my daily drive at the moment

"safely" yeah sure mate that's why it had no airbag in the first release 🙄
Literally just bought a svx last week. Dream car for sure!
They’re gorgeous cars
there's a green manual swapped one with tesla wheels that shows up to meets in SoCal and i swear its honestly the coolest thing there
It most likely is tbh that sounds sick
This is the first svx video I've seen that features old svx media and visuals to accompany the telling of its history. Very well done and thank you!!
LOVE the addition of sound clips at the end there plus mods. good editing!

Mark you have some of my favorite car content, you're awesome dude
Thanks so much bro that means a lot to me

Yooo the Lexus GS is a great car that makes total sense now. Man was like the Picasso of cars
"How could a flat 6 jdm sports car fail IN THE 90's!!!"
"Only available in automatic."
"Ahhhhhhhh."
Yep lol ir sucks
It drives fine with a auto. The originally equipped transmission had a 80% failure rate.
Awesome that you are actually making a vid about this car I literally just bought one like 3 days ago!
Ayyy that’s sick man how you like it?
Enjoyed this dude 🤙🏻
Yours is gorgeous man, I used one of your clips btw I hope you don’t mind
@@markroden Very kind of you to say so dude! I don’t mind at all if you used some clips 🤙🏻
Think they forgot about the SVX….what about the XT6 😅
I was just searching this car up a few days ago trying to find out more about it’s weird design and conveniently this vid popped up on my recommended today
Haha happy to help
I won't ever stop thinking about this car all the dang time, man
Can't buy parts for this car anymore, I've got rod bearings rattling and cannot find any new ones!? I need a set otherwise I need to know what motor I can swap into this car!?
I have an SVX and when you AC goes out the window doesn’t bring in air to cool you off when it is 30 degrees outside, but I love this car
🙄 Marcello Gandini designed the countach not Giorgueto
Exactly. That's not the only thing here that was incorrect.
Oh I’m sorry, this wasn’t a vid on the countach so I didn’t look into it very much
@@randorecumbent yes. But if I state them all I would need to get payed as an editor. 😂

I think a deep dive on the Celica gt4 would be cool
Oh I’ll be doing one for sure thank you
Thank you for making this vid 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thank you for watching
1. It’s not failed
2. It’s not a sports car it’s a drift car
I daily drive an svx, I can confidently say the windows are kind of a pain in the ass.

Please I know this video is old but please do one on the Equus Bass 770
plz do a video on the 3g eclipse there’s not many videos 😭
I will bro lol
1990'S car are way better looking than the 2000'S
very underrated car, I love the rear end tho....
I love the rear too but at an angle when you can see the quarter panel and how low it is, I just think it should’ve been even w the front
@@markroden i catch your drift
I like the back more than the front tbh.
Correction not the first 6 cylinder.. the ER27 is the first 6 cylinder
a 145Hp 2.7L Boxer 6, an EA82 and a half..
do a deep dive on the Subaru XT6
Traded my 91 legacy sport for a svx 3 days ago, best trade ever
I have an svx. They do make front wheel drive. I have 1 of the 500 they made.
Oh wow that’s actually awesome, thanks for letting me know
@@markroden I actually think they might have made more but that's all America got was 500.
I think the FWD option was made to offer a lower purchase price, which was still a lot of money back then
The svx also symbolizes a side of Subaru that we never got to see. It was either rally or formula and they went rally.

I know a guy near me who owns two mint condition Bricklins. Beautiful vehicles, even if they're kinda weird.
There's a spot for a fuse that will put it in 2wd
This was my suggestion ty
Ty for the suggestion
Could you do a good, bad, and ugly for the 99-04 new edge mustang :D
yesss
I’ll probably do one for the whole mustang line soon
This was a pretty cool car, wish it was offered in a manual
Sameeee bro
It's a Subaru just do the work
Deep dive on a Saab 93 2.8L Aero..
Do a deep dive on the toyota 2000gt
Good idea bro
Subarus only decent looking car
Do one on the FTO dude.
I will for sure

IM THAT KID THATS MY DREAM CAR!
Svx was pace car two years in a row, for some big race
saab 900 turbo
fun fact: the ej22 had felt head gaskets
Oh geez I didn’t know that lmao
I've only had 1 of my own ej22s pop a hg and that was after 300k miles.
@@evanrosario good to know, my brother’s has 96k, 97my, so the second iteration of the engine. Such a nice engine
Felt? They used composite head gaskets, which I’m pretty sure primarily graphite.
I have a svx
I like this car
Boom
Bop
The windows has windows.
It’s all a man needs
i would say it was a more luxury coupe than sports car,
How you gonna dog on the SVX the whole video
