- Checking out this newly manufactured colt Goverment Model 1911! this is a continuation of a series we've been doing on the channel with newer colt firearms, seeing if they are truly "junk"
if you like what you see, please consider liking and subscribing. it really helps us out with what we do here on the channel! thank you, and God bless!
The roll marks on the slide are the reproduction of the original, and it’s a rampant horse not a prancing horse. The broken spear in the horse represents the fallen rider, and the horse took up the battle! As described by COLT to me in the smithing school!
SDI? Lol.
Rampant pony not horse lol
Colt has been going a little crazy grinding on the frames, they have been leaving the sides of the mainspring housing proud by an 1/8 inch, you won’t notice it on an arched mainspring housing as much as a flat one, it’s a small detail but it just shows that “Quality CAN make it a Colt” If they could just get the quality consistent
When I get a Colt with a Plastic MSH, I change it out. They are $45+ now but I still change them. It's a "Rampant Colt", not a "Prancing Pony", although some folks like to call it the "Hartford horsey" as well.
I have several colts and all have been very reliable and accurate.
I really dont understand for the price they would give this a plastic part
Plastic and the wrong shape for a classic
Agreed!
UAW is Colts union and they demand $
It’s actually smoother on the spring and the Colt plastic part will not rust if you carry it. 10-8 also sells an aluminum one which weighs the same as the plastic one and is smooth on the spring channel.
😅😅😅
Beautiful Colt !!
This is my personal favorite looking gun. Great video.
So glad CZ bought Colt ! I knew they would do great things with the Colt brand !!!
I thought Colt always did great things with Colt
@@gewglesux not since the mid 90's according to the old dudes I know who used to love colt
@@SRVNORMANDY Yea man... i'm getting the same vibe locally.. it seems that they dont built anything like they usta
@@SRVNORMANDY but dig this.... i still buy colt.. SS coming in next week.
@@gewglesux Well I hope you love it when you get it and have no problems. I'm gonna roll the dice next year and go for railed colt delta elite and hope for the best.
The 1911 is probably my all-time favorite pistol.
Simple. Classic. Reliable. And it's beautiful.
Of all the varieties of 1911... this is also the best of the 1911 line-up.
It's like regular classic Coke. Sure, Cherry or Diet Coke is nice. But the classic is the best.
That said, as varieties go, the Officer model is pretty close to perfect, too.
Best gun to buy if u plan to upgrade at your leisure. Over a year and a few $$ my gunsmith transformed mine into a beautiful shooter.
Nice review of the Colt 1911and there bluing is awesome to. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
I have one and its my new favorite! It shoots as well as it looks!!!!!!!!!
Superb item you got! Really looking vintage. I'm still amazed of how relevant the 1911 is nowadays! Just wish Colt will reissue some with non-lowered ejection port, just a preference he he he...
They have with the 100 & 120 anniversary models down to the sights. The way it is now it's the least out of most American mil spec's!!
Love a Government Model, and still love a Colt. I agree with you, that's a good looking sidearm! I also agree that I don't care for the MSH being made of plastic, and I'll go one step further and say that I don't like that it's flat! The traditional MSH on a GM (since 1924, and the advent of the 1911-A1) has been arched. And, having tried both, it's the profile that I prefer. YMMV
I agree 👍 💯 however I own 2 of the Classics and I did a pree 1924 flat knurled and a post in arched with a lanyard loop. I also replaced the trigger with a period correct short trigger & fine tuned the action and lubed everything up. Polishing the trigger bow really makes it smoother
Bought the O1911 two years ago. I agree with you, this is an outstanding pistol for the money. I do not like the laser engraving because it is not smooth like roll marking but that’s how they are all made these days. The short trigger should have an arched main spring housing. And yes, plastic is no good. Evolution Gun Works is 30 minutes from me and I bought my arched main spring housing there. Really dresses the gun up nice. Good video.
Glad you warned us about the plastic mainspring housing.
Back in the early 2000s, I worked for Colt, and I remember the SAAs were coming out beautiful. My department was in the 1911s, I remember how much d
Very nice pistol... love the polished flats, and there's nothing like a blued Colt 1911! They are hard to find in stock at MSRP. Impossible to find chambered in 38 Super.
My gun shop has two
Nice and in four five. No problem doing the business.
Correctly cut angle on a feed ramp is all a 1911 needs to feed properly, polishing it does next to nothing to fix an incorrect angle on a feed ramp and there’s too much risk you’ll destroy a frame by polishing best left to a competent smith
Cool 👍
So did Colt change the name of the Classic back to government model essentially!!?? I have 2 of them one during the pandemic and one in 22 when CZ took over. I got robbed as mine are both 7 rd capacity not 8 .
I think Colt should change the roll marks back to the original like the new pistol that just came out with the GI nub safety and novack sites that don't make sense! I don't understand why Colt puts nylon mainspring housing's and triggers on the base model!! Their not saving money because Springfield Armory mil spec comes with all metal parts and 3 dot sights and 2 extra mags and extra blk grips for 640!!
Looks really nice - but the plastic mainspring housing just rubs me wrong and causes a rash...
I agree it's definitely gross
Same here and one mag, come on.
@@slimfire5475 i second this!
It’s gorgeous
Inadmisible piezas de plástico en la pistola más icónica de todos los tiempos!!.. se debe respetar el legado de la 1911.
Find a WWII lanyard mainspring housing for it, clean it up, re blue, try it out.
In this day and age, all barrels should be national match.maybe replace the front sight for a stake in with gold dot insert
Did that with mine and it looks like it came from the factory that way. Can easily be done buying on eBay and cerakoting/alumahyde coating correctly
Just bought one couldn't put magazine in until lubed it well...
Hi, do you know if it is factory calibrated at 25 yards with top of front sigth aiming to center of mass or 6 o´ clock, first or second intersection point of parabola with line of sigth? The specification is with 230 grains bullet. I can´t find this information in manuals nor Internet. Thanks.
what differences between this model and a mark iV series 70? thanks
For $900 there should be zero plastic parts. Leave it to Colt to go cheap. I might as well buy a Tisas for almost half the price.
I agree
Go ahead.
🤦🏽 I’m going Springfield that plastic just killed me all my hopes of a cult
Agree 100%
I am changing mine too
Wow 😳
uno de la 9mm Beretta plis
I have one no comparison to the original one that's made in usa is the best hard to find the original American made

State of the art WW1 technology.
And still does the same thing as the plasticrap. With more style too.

Why just one mag ?
That's a good question for colt
Is this a current 2024 production ?
Thanks in advance
Yes!
@@TheMilsurpMan nice , looks like the old ones 👌
@@TheMilsurpMan I wonder if they make them in a 38 Super 🤔
@@LuisGonzalez-bn6nz I'm curious myself!
@@LuisGonzalez-bn6nzyes I was able to luckily pick one up , just know that 38 supers are going for top dollar rn
My left side engraving is raised where it should be smooth How about yours?
Thanks.
This one is aswell I think it's part of the laser engraving process
@@TheMilsurpMan Thanks for the reply. Ok, thanks for the quick reply! I'm going to ask around and then let it rest. I picked mine up the other day.. kind of disappointed though.. ok well.. my new Motto.." quality starts @$2k"
@gewglesux yeah it sucks that it's not rollmarked like the older models, but laser etching is what all modern companies do now
@@TheMilsurpMan I have heard of rollmarking before... Are the high end pistols laser etching also?
@gewglesux yes every manufacturer nowadays uses laser etching
I have one.
Sounds like a 30 minutes video done in 10 minutes or less
later Fat Post WW2 Thumb Safety - like Original GI Type Better ...
It won't be a turd. 😂
That is not a "beavertail" grip safety. That is called a standard (USGI) grip safety.
Sorry, mispoken
I mean it is a beavertail. The “Beavertail” is the part of the handgun the grip safety is built into. It’s just not a modern extended beavertail, though it is extended compared to the original 1st gens from wwi era.
There is no beaver tail on that pistol. It's a standard grip safety. Please people learn the correct terminology.
Relax.
Shame colt played politics in the early 90s, and will never get another dime from me... It's more a shame, that this generation doesn't remember that, and eat them up.
It's just a firearm it doesn't hold any politics or ideology. Colt isn't the only company that has ever upset the consumer there's been plenty of others.
True, I always heard that Kimber 1911s had problems. I have two of them and they run fine.@@TheMilsurpMan
“This generation” reporting. What did Colt do?
^Colt Series 70 Government or Springfield Armory Mil-Spec
That's the great thing about getting old, I forgot what they did. I just enjoy the new products and have two on order.
👎👎👎
Capacity sucks. Every modern pistol has twice or more bullets. 1911 are crap.
To each their own
I EDC the Sig 365X; it comes with (2) twelve round magazines (total of 24 rounds). Occasionally I will carry the Mil-Spec with (3) eight round magazines for a total of 24 rounds. Only one additional magazine change for the same ammo count.
It's not a "modern" pistol. Basic marksmanship skills should solve any perceived shortcomings you'd experience with the Colt's capacity because it's not because it's not accurate. That of course doesn't mean that you (no ambiguity here, I mean "you") could hit anything with it.
Ya...I agree I also don't drive a model T...
Lol are you 15?
