Eric Slaughter I think it is so beautiful. It IS haunting. I'm glad that you are enjoying it! Thx for sharing with your friends, also. My best to you, Moppet
Always beautiful to hear these songs. It's such an amazing thing, how music captures a time and feeling. A friend once said to me "art is how we decorate space, music is how we decorate time".
I have been singing this song for years.....whenever I'm having troubles, feeling down. It helps to purge the hurt and everything that has been building up inside.
Fight the enemy, that's what all we have to do, but please remember stay beside Lordy: that's what many of them, our brothers, seems to do and that's why Enemy defeat us once and again.
Rineke RobertsonvanDam I didn't know it either. I've been researching her along with some old, blues people that I'm not real familiar with. I love their music. Hope to put more on soon. Thank for listening & commenting. I used to listen to Moby, when he did that mix, but i would stop it & keep going back to her part. That's what I loved. HER part! My best to you, Moppet
Rineke RobertsonvanDam Yes. I'm so glad I found this. Thanks for listening, enjoying, AND leaving comments. It is appreciated. I hope you have a lovely day...or evening.
Vera Hall singing "Trouble So Hard". It should sound a bit familiar. Moby had a huge hit with this in a mix he made in the 90's. This is from "Sounds of the South" released in 1993. Alan Lomax made many records & field recordings. This cd is a mix of his best. My video is made with all respect and love for past traditions. Enjoy! Lyrics for Trouble So Hard as sung by Vera Hall. Lyrics courtesy of elyrics.net: Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard Don't nobody know my troubles but God Don't nobody know my troubles but God Went down the hill Other day My soul got happy and stayed all day Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard Don't nobody know my troubles but God Don't nobody know my troubles but God Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard Went in the room Didn't stay long Looked on the bed and, Brother was dead Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard Don't nobody know my troubles but God Don't nobody know my troubles but God Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard
This music is good in all versions, crossing the ages and taking your message, with natural blues in 90 and in 2016 with Kaya, an example of musical exchange!
Alan Lomax grabó a Vera Hall (1902-1964) en su cocina, el 22 de julio de 1937. En el 1942 este tema fue parte de un disco compilatorio African American Spiritual Work Songs and Ballads.
thanks, Moppet. Where would we be without the music from those that allowed their souls to sing! and for those that had the sense to go out and capture this stuff. so glad to see you around again. will be taking a tour 'round your channel soon after our re-introduction. can tell we have similar taste - music as sustenance, removal of the veil.
TheBWJohnson Yes we do have similar tastes. I have a lot of several genres though. I love Old Timey, Blues, Old Blues, primitive (gospel & blues), Celtic. I have a huge mix. It was good when utube let you go to the channels & type in genres, artists, songs, and instruments...but now it is a mess. I will have to figure a way so that people can find what they are looking for. I was very ill for a long time. That is why I was gone. I couldn't even sit up to play with the computer. It was pretty bad. Had surgery that is a relatively new process in July & was better immediately. I can walk, sit, cook, visit my grandson. I've had a miracle. I guess I held on long enough for the technology to catch up with me. God kept me here. It IS good to meet my old friends again. My best, Barbara
well, dear Barbara, in a sense, we are all sharing in this miracle. I recalled your old Moppet name from the early days of this ragged old channel and thought it great to see it again. I enjoy all sorts of music. just began uploading this type of song because I didn't see many of that genre; now it's been taken up by more than a few. so I will return to yours when time allows - as the good, noncommercial music is sometimes the one thing that can sustain and speak directly to the soul. So - so glad you're back! And most importantly, healthy... all my best!
+charlie carpenter moby took it from her. She did it long ago. He paid no royalties to her estate either... It is a great song! Thanks for listening, Moppet

ссср 3 класс. 1983 год. Урок музыки. Учительница рассказывает нам об основах блюза. Спиричуелсы и госпелы. Помню до сих пор. Сразу услышал базу в 2001 году у Моби. Был на двух его концертах.
Oh, when I found him again I started looking up my old music. (Hope he doesn't have this). His Bessie Jones got me goin'. Well there is never too much good music out! Thanks for listening. His Channel is GREAT. My best, Barb
Mighty Mo Rodgers He didn't pay anything? I would have thought that he had to pay her trust/heirs/someone rights! She is wonderful. Thanks for commenting! I appreciate you listening and taking the time to say hello. My best, Moppet
bluesloverz why, thank you. I will check out immediately. I've got to get to a store or online. I love Callicott! Everything I've heard. His voice is so mellow & his playing is like a cross between Fahey or Kelly Joe Phelps & Doc Watson. Perfect!!! Will check out Mighty Mo immediately. Not going to do much work today. It's been a long weekend...
@@adriandotexe the best thing is that we have both versions. I like how the instrumentals do empower the vocals, but the vocals on their own also bring their own raw emotion to it.
+fetermcblues Hi, guy. I'm not around much right now. I just saw this from long ago. Moby used this song in a mix he made several years back. He didn't give any royalties to her estate. Wishing you a good day, Moppet
I always thought the lyric was "Don't nobody know my troubles WITH God" That would make more sense. To all the victims of the Charleston Church Massacre. RIP
I thought the same for years, and at times like this... actually at this very moment I sing this song as we have thought it was. Lord Have Mercy for our weakness. Amen
Her family doesn't own her legacy. She was her own person. They do not deserve to make money off of her art when they had nothing to do with it in the first place.
Moby exposed this tune to millions who would otherwise wouldn't care to hear a folk or gospel recording in their lives. There is no copyright law that include each and every recording made through the years. Right now, there are thousands of musical RECORDINGS available that pay no royalties. And some are considered Public Domain. Please stop trolling, thank you!
I really wish the horror that produced a song was known. Its a shame that Black people was subjected to sooo much and all they relied on was a fucking phantom, that the mfs that were responsible for those dark times gave to them wasn't helping.
Glad that Moby introduced me to the original. Thank you Vera and Moby for this.
Man, i personally have to thanks Moby because of his job i actually got to know these songs from the 30s, 40s and 50s, so good, such awesome!
absolutely beautiful
Loved this, absolutely haunting. I can't stop listening to it
Eric Slaughter I think it is so beautiful. It IS haunting. I'm glad that you are enjoying it! Thx for sharing with your friends, also. My best to you, Moppet
Eric Slaughter Likewise. 🌹
Completely agree. Soul deepening.
100% agree.
I looked for this for So long!! So glad to have found it again! ❤
I'm crying listening to that beautiful song
Always beautiful to hear these songs. It's such an amazing thing, how music captures a time and feeling. A friend once said to me "art is how we decorate space, music is how we decorate time".
I’ll always remember this
😮
Here before Ren's release on the 9th!!
Same here ❤
Me too. (Ren - Troubles 2024)
Never heard the original version.Absolutely beautiful.(
And this is a perfect example of the beautiful and haunting microtonality of the blues. Hauntingly beautiful.
Moby first introduced this song to me probably 20 years ago and i'm glad he did. It's so very easy to sing Vera's words
I have been singing this song for years.....whenever I'm having troubles, feeling down.
It helps to purge the hurt and everything that has been building up inside.
It helps me too
What a power testament to the original origins of this song as well as the woman singing it that we still think about it and meditate on it.
Life used to be much harder for all people, we are all spoiled from everyones hard work , life , struggle , battles.
Yes! You’re 1000% right.
what beautiful rythms was this... thanks to Moby to introduce me to such beautiful melody! ...
I hear you ancestor.. that’s why we fight today.
Fight the enemy, that's what all we have to do, but please remember stay beside Lordy: that's what many of them, our brothers, seems to do and that's why Enemy defeat us once and again.
What a voice ! Thanks very much for sharing.
Solveig S Natural Blues (Moby) 2000
Pity this dont go for longer, what an awsome an distinctive voice.
Here because of Moby who sampled this way back in 2000 👍
Thankyou for such a deep soulful song. Respect.
Great never knew she was a she who sang this wonderful spiritual,...thanks so much for sharing!

Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard
Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard
Don't nobody know my troubles but God
Don't nobody know my troubles but God
Went down the hill
Other day
My soul got happy
and stayed all day
Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard
Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard
Don't nobody know my troubles but God
Don't nobody know my troubles but God
Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard
Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard
Went in the room
Didn't stay long
Looked on the bed and,
Brother was dead
Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard
Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard
Don't nobody know my troubles but God
Don't nobody know my troubles but God
Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard
Ooh Lordy, troubles so hard

I always wondered were he lifted this from. It's beautiful.
Good one Barb. This made be stop in at TheBWJohnson channel.

Moby stole this added a beat and made a lot of money.
Mighty Mo Rodgers

MyMoppet52 Morning Barb. Have you checked out Mighty Mo Rodgers he has some fine CD's and a powerful message. I think you will dig him.

this is better on its own then when moby sampled it
I disagree. The instrumentals Moby composed go really well with the lyrics.
@@adriandotexe the best thing is that we have both versions. I like how the instrumentals do empower the vocals, but the vocals on their own also bring their own raw emotion to it.
@@xander1052 Exactly. I do like this version because of the raw emotion it conveys, like you said.
I like both.
I cant recall the name but this is a very soulful voice and singing ... thanks for sharing !!

Who came here thanks to Moby?
Here because of Ren too .
Blue Rose Tarot your smile is similar to a young Jessie Mae Hemphill (blues musician).
Here because of Ren.
❤❤❤
Had forgotten about this song (and Moby's version) until Ren (@Renmakesmusic) sampled it on Troubles.
I always thought the lyric was "Don't nobody know my troubles WITH God"
That would make more sense.
To all the victims of the Charleston Church Massacre. RIP
death is not a problem for those who know this is not the place where they belong
I thought the same for years, and at times like this... actually at this very moment I sing this song as we have thought it was. Lord Have Mercy for our weakness. Amen
it makes no more sense than the actual lyrics do, which I feel make it a far more personal and powerful song than the misheard lyric.
Should be "don't nobody know my troubles with Moby not payin' my family no money fo dis" ...
paying* any* for* this*
Moby should not have sampled this song. It's an original classic
Moby is not important. He can't sing like this.
Her family doesn't own her legacy. She was her own person. They do not deserve to make money off of her art when they had nothing to do with it in the first place.
kprnva My point was that he stole it . Not that her family deserves anything , agreed .

Where are the lyrics?
Spooky Season
This shits all over Moby
Check out Rival Sons "Shooting Stars" as well ruclips.net/video/cPtMgsN8Tpo/видео.html
Am I the only white boy who likes this?
No. Of course not. Why would you think such a stupid thing?
Seeing as Moby sampled this, you’re definitely not.
Are u family if not give the money
Hope Moby paid this family since he ripped them off.
No autotune
Such a shame
