It takes a long time to practice especially since everything has to be timed right and with other people, but it doesn’t really hurt that bad it like getting hit with the cardboard part of a toilet paper roll

When you want to do the talent show but your’re all percussionists
The percussionist actually uses boomwhackers for practice!! Since its very time based and what not it helps with rhythm. Im not sure if they actually performed it somewhere but they did it at lunch and a break we have so whenever I'd stop to see my teacher they could be playing! There was also some kids who played o'canada on recorders during our year end performance
They tubes’ reverberations are actually very akin to a drum head, so it’s a good workout for the wrist ahead of a performance. ☺️

I played xylophone and playing without markings on the keys+having to play faster or more complicates songs is really hard. You have too have really good hand eye coordination and reaction time. Sure its not the hardest instrument but it's not something a 7 year old can pick up and play Bach.
