  • The Happy Camper gives the gang at Nova Craft Canoe in London Ontario to pick up his Aramid Lite Prospector repaired canoe - patching some cracked gelcoat and putting on skid plates. He also brings in his Tuff Stuff to be slightly repaired after finishing the 200 km Mississippi River in southeastern Ontario, which had low water levels.
    Correction: the maintenance person who worked on my boat was Dan Walker, not Dave Walker. Sorry Dan.

    That's exactly how a canoe should look, perhaps not after just one trip, but that is how a mature, used and loved boat should look. :)

      LOL. Ya, I agree. And yes, that low water Mississippi trip sure did a good job on it. But heck, it was worth the adventure. Gosh darn good trip.

    Hahaha well I’m envious of the weight of that canoe but I’m not sure I’d be keen on having to bring it for repairs after each trip!😂

    A job well done Kevin.
    It's nice to see that during these tough economic times, that you can find it in your heart to keep a companies entire staff employed after one of your canoe adventures 😂😂.
    Awesome video and I'm looking forward to your next video.
    Cheers 👍

    Yup, I had to continuously apologize to my Expedition Kevlar Swift Canoe this past week when I took it down the Lady-Evelyn River. 6 inches more water would have made a difference. Bumped and grinded any of the rapids I ran. But the portages were just as tough on the canoe. But, it survived and I now have more adventure tattoos added to the bottom and one new side one as well from sidestepping a bolder. But as family members told me when I was showing off the new "adventure tatoos" they simply said; you said you bought it to use and not just look pretty so you can tell you definitely use it.

    lmao this is a great video! If Chris decides to sell that as a "used" canoe, I'm in the market "nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more" lol

    I know you have a ton of helpful videos much of which I have watched and used to help plan however, I was wondering how you plan out canoe routes? I used to canoe trip up in the blind river area for days at a time but had a whole group of people with me that had old routes they have been using for years. I was wondering how you find your canoe roots etc. do you pay for the mapped routes or just plan your own sometimes? How do you make sure you are planning a safe route etc. I want to get back out on the canoe routes but don't have any friends that know anything about canoe tripping in the back country etc. and watching your videos and the other popular canadian outdoor explorer channels you guys make it seem so effortless (to a point I know a lot of planning and experience goes into your trips) however i was just wondering what tips you have for somewhat experienced but somewhat not canoe trippers without friends they are able to plan with etc. I hope that all made sense and wasnt to much of a ramble!

    What does in the inside of the boat look like? I did the same trip hit a couple of rocks nothing major at all but the inside of mine has tough stuff coming through and is actually quite sharp combined with the bottom material. It's only on its third trip. What do I do?

    when do you decide its a good time to "repair" your canoe? i apply the gel coat once a year after I'm done my trips for the summer... but what's the deciding factor to bring to the shop like this?
    thanks :)

    Can't recall hearing a price on those repairs .

    • @TheHappyCamper
      @TheHappyCamper  Год назад

      Re: repairs pricing - it's a pretty case-by-case situation. Nova Craft charges $65/hr for gelcoat and hull repairs, and provide estimates when they get the canoe into the shop. For skid plates, it's a flat rate of $210.

      @@TheHappyCamper Pretty much what I figured ,but still shocked . Guess it coincides with the price of new canoes .Best to avoid shallow river trips .

    Skid plate: what is it? what is its purpose?

    • @TheHappyCamper
      @TheHappyCamper  Год назад +2

      It protects the front and back of the boat when hitting a rock; like a helmet.
