Special thanks to Chris, Sara and Steve at Nova Craft Canoe for the tour of your Amazing Factory. Also a huge thanks to the staff members who made my new Special Edition 15ft Bob Special... I love it. Canoehound
Well this looks fun. I met Jim Baird there back in May. Because I knew he was coming I took him some beers from the brewery around the corner from the Paddleshop. If I had known you were coming Dennis I would have done the same for you. Cheers from London.
Love my 16 Pal! Just got back from a solo on the Kopka River with it. I have the expedition TuffStuff, still only 50 pounds, great performance, great handling, even in strong headwind, just trim the canoe and off you go!
@@CanoehoundAdventures nice, I want to go back. This year was a solo, next may take my wife or do something further interior Wabakimi. Hardest part was the drive, 2000km each way and I only gave myself 2 days there and 2 back. Old body was hurting for a week! Although, I did miss some flagging tape on one of the portages and ended up following a moose trail and bushwhacking with the canoe on my head for 2 hours!
Congratulations on the new canoe, Dennis. I just put a deposit down on a Nova Craft Prospector 16 today. Hope to pick it up next weekend from the dealer, about 4 hours drive away. A Bob Special was also on the short list, along with the Pal 16. They make some great boats.
Very nice Dennis. Convince me why I should buy a Nova Craft canoe vs a Swift canoe? What are the advantages and reasons the NC is better. I am very curious to get your opinion before my future purchase. Thanks.
Hey @dwrivers. No need to convince you. Both companies have great canoes. I have also owned a Swift but have since sold it. For my type and style of Canoeing I find the Nova Craft Prospectors and Bob Specials are what I need. I have owned one for over 30 years and am currently on my 3rd and 4th Nova Craft Canoes. I have always felt super confident with the toughness and build quality. Swift also builds capable canoes, but I will say this, and it is certainly not negative towards Swift but "I" never really felt confident in the Prospector Pack that I owned... she was pretty and paddled like a dream but there were some aspects that I did not feel confident with, without going into detail. I suggest to you to do your own research and find a canoe that is suitable for YOUR Paddling needs. There are several great brands out there with varying price points, styles and materials. Me... I am a Nova Craft Guy... I also Drive a Ford truck... My prefference... for now...LOL Have a great summer and have fun choosing your Canoe. Keep the Adventures Alive Dennis... AKA Canoe Hound
@@CanoehoundAdventures Thanks Dennis ! I think I know what you are talking about - the Swift canoes are amazing BUT fragile, and basically not whitewater capable at all. I wouldn’t trust one in the rapids. Lightweight is not always the way to go if you are doing whitewater. See you on the water ! Derek
I'll keep mentioning it until the US makes a change - there's one critical difference with canoes sold in Canada - legally, they should be buoyant when full of water - if you buy a boat made in the US, you might be in for a nasty surprise when all your stuff ends up on the bottom.
I have been paddling Nova Craft for many years. I purchased my Swift for solo trips but rarely used it. With the configuration of my Swift, I could only use double blade comfortablly and I still prefer single blade. I enjoyed the Swift but my brand loyalty is with Nova Craft

Ash looks great but I know my family's track record - lowest-maintenance materials for me, wherever possible :D
I'm in the same boat... keep it simple

Hope your summer is going well

You are right. they do need some sort of Buoyancy... I was not aware of the difference
Great video, but why did you bail on your swift canoe ?
