Thank you for this video, loved to hear your opinion and experience. I used the Pi for about 2 years, and liked it for listening to music, but not for intercom conversing. My husband and I tried all kinds of adjustments/hacks to better filter the wind, but were never able to talk without significant wind noise/popping. Eventually, the clips that hold onto the straps broke, and since I was only using the Sena for music, I opted to switch to a less expensive bluetooth speaker that clips onto clothing, etc. If the wind noise was solved, I would have loved using these while riding with my husband. Another reason I moved away from these was the lack of waterproofing, meaning I couldn't leave my helmet on my bike if it might rain.
Super awesome!!! Way better than staying on a phone call just to have the occasional talking with regular Bluetooth /sport earbuds plugged into phone jack. My husband has never been a biker and I have been apprehensive about how to bike together given biking is rather solo.. (we're city travelers on regular streets/roads/"bike lanes" with traffic, occasional paved sidewalk style city bike paths or low traffic neighborhood streets). These will be a game changer for us!! I'm SO GLAD you've shared this option!! Totally within our budget for the positive gain in an activity together with my husband. Edit: I absolutely LOVE that it doesn't go Into the ear! I like my ears to be free to hear around me and allow moisture to evaporate as my body needs. Edit #2: My husband watched this video and agrees these would be perfect for our enjoyment; so I just bought 2 using the link. They'll be here Saturday!
Watch the review, was convinced! I bought the Sena pi through the affiliate link…. After first use, I was amazed! Works just as reviewed. Changes everything! Thanks
The required firmware update process was super sketchy. Had to install an app onto a laptop that looked like it was from the 90s. Why in the world can't the update be done via my phone? That was already connected and that is what was telling me the update was required. Oh and it didn't actually tell me I needed to use a computer as opposed to a smartphone. But other than that, I generally agree with everything in this video. :)
I'm now trying to figure out the crap Sena apps. And the crap instructions don't mention holding the minus button 5 seconds to pair directly. Thanks for that tip...hope it works.
Here to also cheer the 5 second button push to connect 2. I horse ride and have similar problems on trails as you mentioned. Shouting to other riders, not being able to hear, etc. I was worried this would only work with a cell phone. Did the 5 second thing and magic! My 15 year old twins ran off to test them. They are very pleased. Now they can endlessly chat about video games while enjoying the outdoors with our hoof puppies.
We love our Pi BUT...... We have three. When we purchased the first 2 several years ago they advertised that several could be connected. Then we purchased a 3rd Pi. Apparently, they did a firmware update and now only 2 can be connected. really, really disappointing as we ride with our 8 year old child and want to be able to connect all three of us. We don't want to upgrade to helmets as we have great helmets already and don't want to make a change. Like you, we appreciate that we can move the sets to a different helmets. Biggest gripe is trying to update firmware on our iMac or our MacBook. It is a complete nightmare. Just can't tell if it's working. Not intuitive at all. Surely Sena can do a better job there. Points off for that.
The problem is the sound quality on it is atrocious, great for communication like if you're on a walkee talkee and biking with friends, but when you're in the city alone, this was not it. The thing is, I needed to get a helmet, I've been wearing some bose over the ear quiet comfort for music and to hear my directions when I'm making deliveries. So I got a helmet, then this Sena R2, then I got these (which are still on there way). I tested out the Sena R2, and the sound quality is just awful, listening to music on it is just bad, it sounds like you're listening to music through a styrofoam cup, and I have to turn the volume way up to hear it in my room, I can't imagine listening to it in the open with cars honking, sirens blaring, and cars zooming by. I assume its going to be the same thing for these, I'm going to test them out, but I have a feeling I'm going to return them immediately. I've tried the huawei free clips, and even though I dont like them, they sound way better than this. I'm definitely not the target audience for this product, but that just means it's great for communication, it's not great for my intended purpose.
They're certainly more geared toward conversational use than epic sound quality. If it's wireless music you want, we reviewed the Suunto Sonic bone-conducting headphones recently. Great sound quality, they work with a helmet, and since they don't plug up your ear holes they're safe to use while riding! ruclips.net/video/TigN0Jf16mE/видео.htmlsi=X_hJZ9R9uFIWIyUT
@@Terradrift I actually tried the behind the head shokz, but my head was way to big for the original size (which is there largest). I ended up getting the bose wireless quiet comfort earbuds.
I've gotta say, I am a little disappointed that it's 2024 and these still aren't rated for any dust/water resistance. As an outdoor BT device, that's unforgivable. As for everything else, it's a beautiful piece of purpose tech.
Helmets should definitely be replaced! However 3-5 years is generally accepted. mipsprotection.com/helmet-safety/how-long-do-helmets-last/#:~:text=Bike%20helmets%20have%20a%20shelf,that%2C%20they%20should%20be%20replaced

I knew nothing. First video on this item. I need to get this and then share it too. Love your energy and enthusiasm!!!
Love the video. It exactly describes how I feel when cycling with a partner.

I have had these for 2 years now.. hoping they make an update.. the battery life is getting shorter and shorter

which helmets support more riders?
All of Sena's helmets (some of which we've reviewed) allow you to connect to more than 2 riders!
Have you tried a milo? It seems to offer similar function but I can't find any quality reviews of it
We may be testing those soon!
What makes this better than a voice activated FRS radio with a headset?
Wires, weight and bulk. Done both. Not even remotely comparable. And wind canceling.

Excellent point! Hopefully future iterations will be!
None of these Sena PI reviews mention battery life...i wonder why?
Battery life is up to 6 hours according to the manufacturer. In our experience that's fairly accurate.
Just my opinion but I wish you could've just said what this thing does concisely at the beginning of the video and then went into the schpeal.
Im starting to go deaf. This is cool, thanks for sharing.
If you snag one, let us know if it helps!
cycling helmuts CAN NOT be used for more than 2 years. Its a safety issue.

ONLY 1 to 1.
NOT suitable for group ride.
Yep (as covered at 3:02)! We recommend the Sena helmets, Cardo, or Milo intercoms when wanting to connect with 3+ riders.
