- After covering Ai Yazawa's Nana, it was only a matter of time before I was gonna come back with Paradise Kiss - the ultimate fashion manga/anime.
Paradise Kiss is full of references to British fashion(Vivienne Westwood, of course), and is a perfect way to explore dandy fashion of the 18th century, as well as its' reincarnation through Japanese visual kei style.

To this day I think that Parakiss, if it existed irl, would be like the coup of tea of any kpop group, like I could imagine all the popular idols wearing fashion with butterflies and blue roses. I don't know why but I think Lee Hi would be the perfect brand embassor of ParaKiss. 🦋💙

this show and manga are just so mesmerizing! george pissed me off the whole show with how he kept borderline bullying yukari and leading her on, but i couldn't stop watching because of how gorgeous the art is. you are so right in the sticker comparison for him, i can see him wearing those black satin cowboy get ups they had, especially with the glittery hat, or the white jacket taeil has in the mv with the bedazzled tassels. i love how the main characters are sort of color-coded but it's not so much in your face like other ensemble shows and also how despite all of them having their distinct styles they still influence one another, especially on yukari who becomes their muse in the beginning and eventually does seem to develop her own style a bit. i started watching neighborhood stories some time ago just for the fashion too, i feel like even more so there you can see how much of a character's personality can be transmitted through the way they dress.
Yeah, I think the fashion storytelling is definitely top tier in this manga

I love Visual Kei, it's really nostalgic to me when I was a kid reading manga to pass the time.
I honestly didn’t remember that I’ve seen so much of it until watching this and then remembered all the media that featured so much of it haha

Ai Yazawa actually had written a few manga before Neighbourhood Story, like I'm No Angel (one of my favourites!). NS was the first to be made into anime series though and also I think where fashion became more prominent in her work/more apart of the story

@@LisaFevralyeah i know that there's the anniversary version but in Poland the company that releases mangas in polish, they re-released it after they discontinued it 20 years ago and they give a bunch of cute freebies for the people who preordered the series every time they send the manga to you and i got a poster with this manga this time so im very happy that i bought every part of the manga like this ^____^ + i hate really big heavy books when it comes to mangas i cant read them fast and i have to make sure i hold them right to not damage them and my hands hurt because of that😅

You're describing why there's been a big swathe of American comic readers swapping over to manga, alongside there being more misogyny normalized into the culture in general. Stuff like Fire Force is so cringe to me, but to each their own.
I'd love to see you rate Naruto outfits. At first they were super practical or cringe like Tsunade's, then in Shippuuden they got more flare. His kid Boruto then got even more stylish, and the current manga finally has modern taste that i feel like you'd get a kick out of. So many belts, it's like they raided hot topic after a funeral.
