completely unrelated to the context of the vid, but as a long-time plus size viewer, I just have to say it always means so much to see Katie using images of plus size models in her moodboards/inspo - it’s something that you rarely ever see others doing and it truly goes such a long way in seeing representation and seeing bigger people as stylish and part of the fashion world too. thank you Katie, always love your vidssss 💖
I went to university to be a fashion designer because of Paradise Kiss. The only thing I can say is that it's true that fashion students look for models on the streets LOL. Now I work in the industry. I'm forever thankful to Yazawa Ai for her impact on my life.

6:18 YES to a video on the more shojo esque outfits! Would love to see your take on it. I also 100% agree on waiting for your mental health to improve prior to watching and/or reading Nana. It took me years to get through the whole series because of how emotionally heavy it can be.
Hachi's outfits are inspired by 60s, maybe because her family was poor, and most of her clothes were given from her mother before 15th birthday and Hachi started to work.
I didn’t watch nana until uni, but parakiss was definitely a major influence in my style since middle school (and still today tbh) it was far from the only anime/manga that was a fashion influence (there were too many to list but include sailor moon, shugo chara, cardcaptor sakura or anything CLAMP tbh, honey and clover, etc) but it was a main one
All these comics had such a impact on my style and life and heart. I remember before it was even translated I had a poster of Mikako on my wall. I had Korean and Japanese versions of Yazawa stuff and I was OBSESSED. I really wanted to be Miwako big time when I was a teenager, pink hair is still the best hair color for me, and I started wearing strawberry lotion and washing my hair with strawberry shampoo I found at the local Japanese market... And I love Nana so much. I am so happy these stories are having a renaissance because the fashion in them is so interesting and fun!
you nailed it, as usual!! i'm not even an anime/manga girly but i'm so happy you're bringing these videos back because they always give me something new to be inspired by!
I’m Japanese, lived in Australia from the 90s and currently living in Korea. I grew up on mangas like Sailormoon and Yazawa Ai but every time I bought back clothes from Japan couldn’t wear most of it in Aus cos the seasons are opposite and aesthetics were sooo different!😅 Love seeing you embrace fashion from different cultures💖
Omg I would LOVE a shoujo inspired outfit video!!! I also just love it when you do videos on stuff u'r really passionate about, hearing u talk abt it is so fun!
I love that you love Ai Yazawa 😭 Nana was so formative for me at 14. Parakiss really hit me last year. I feel like all the people I trust & just adore artistically are into Ai!! I really, really loved your Gokinjo Monogatari looks!! The curls at the end of your hair with the bright color scheme made you pop!! You made pop art!! 💗💛🩵
I recently started rewatching Nana on Netflix after ten years had no idea that it had impacted me that much in the choices of clothes I made. I loved every outfit you created.
On a related note: Neighborhood Story is getting an official English release by VIZ this December. I was happy to see clips of it referenced in your video, and I hope an official release can bring it to more people! Thanks for your hard work and great videos!
Nana didn’t really cause an exterior glow up for me, but mostly an interior one. Watching and reading Nana made me feel like a mirror was being held to my soul and I was forced to deal with all of my shortcomings and selfishness. Beautiful series.
ahhhh katie we’ve all been wait for this one!! i cant tell how much effort u put in this video, the editing the outfits. one of my favourites that you’ve posted!!!
ahhh the editing in this video is so good!! because of your videos I bought and read the paradise kiss manga a while back, and i have so many thoughts on it but it did not disappoint. 10:06 and 10:41 were especially great outfits!
Paradise Kiss and Nana are a major part of the reason I went to school for fashion (introduced me to Vivienne Westwood at the ripe young age of 11 lol)! Ai Yazawa's manga played a huge role in my personal style growing up and I will never not absolutely adore them for it! Thanks for making this video!!
I loved Nana i actually have her cigarette clip finger sleeve. Its the coolest accessory aside from ren's lock necklace that Nana has the key to. But I love hachi too. Her white dress with black sleeves and tights is actually been my dream to wear for my wedding someday. I wanted a whole anime cosplay themed wedding. I started reading Nana in high school the shojo magazines and then the subbed anime after. Now i see my neice wearing things inspired by that look and she loves the anime as well.
No but fr Nana made my style glow up so much, i watched it during summer holidays and when i came back to school i got so many compliments on my outfits
I literally JUST recommended your videos to somebody trying to work out how to dress in Hachi’s style and build an outfit the other day! I hope they see this video too, perfect timing
I have been waiting for this video!! 💗Thank you so much for this, I've always loved Ai Yazawa character fits, but have had trouble figuring out how to put together outfits like that!
Yuko Ichihara from CLAMP's xxxHolic is a character I *desperately* wanna be like. I, too, wanna Know Shit, intimidate everyone and be styled to the 9s. But I always get... afraid to dress like she would. Some of my pieces have hints of it but I've never like... gone fully into it. I get too afraid it will look bad on me, the style. But generally, all of CLAMP's works are super stylish imo. No one really talks about it, though.
I watched Nana and I did get interested in Viviane West stuff but my peak in fashion. Was Gojinko Monohatari. Damn, ai would like to become a fashion designer ❤ and dress as cool as them and K did change my clothes and shoes after watching it.
For me it was GALS! by Mihona Fuji that absolutely changed my life. Absolutely adore fashion themed series. The styles are so beyond, and you've done a great job translating it to real life and capturing the essence ~
You have an incredibly really amazing sense of fashion.. I'm not good at styling clothes and layering then with more clothes on, but u make everything seem to work
i swear i was looking for a video like this lately (+ obsessing exactly over nana & paradise kiss fashion) and you created this masterpiece!!!! i really manifested this, thank you soooo much ♡

I've just stumbled across your channel and I'm very very happy. My style is non-existent at the moment, but I do prefer a minimal Uniqlo kind of look. I wouldn't really dress like this, but the way Ai drew her clothes and embodied characters through Fashion has ALWAYS had a chokehold on me. I LOVE your styling and it's incredibly beautiful, even your justifications make sense to me, even if I'm not a fashion girly. And can I just say - THANK YOU for including different body types and races (and probably even gender expression) within your reference photos. Very very refreshing to see!!

Goodness knows I’ve always ALWAYS been into fashion and never been afraid of expressing myself… but the translation from the brain to the body has been a challenge for me. Just adding MORE to my outfits has been a huge inspiration (a la you) and really leveled up my own style. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t putting together each Nana in a cosplay for Anime Con in a few months… I’m definitely a Nana O gal on the day to day (and in my own style) but I picked up a very Hachi skinny scarf a few days ago at the thrift. She’s actually been inspiring me to dress a bit more girlie and in a LOT more soft colors than usual.
