twilightcore is what i say i'm doing when I don't feel like looking cool and am just wearing my skinny jeans from 2010. like elena and bella weren't supposed to be fashionable characters, which is why their clothes are just normal ass clothes you'd find at target in 2012. no one was yassing at their outfits haha

Elena was very well dressed, she was a basic girl from the 2010 but her style was a little bit an upgraded version of that. I was at that age when I watched TVD and I would have easily dressed everyday like Elena or Caroline etc. Elena looked really sexy with that deep colours, stretchy jeans and stretchy shirts, etc. cool boots and cool leather jacked. She was really cool and had nice trendy hair and a nice makeup on! Everybody was trying to wear her make up
Bella was not as cool.
With Bella at least it's believable she's an awkward teen with no interest in fashion, a mousy wallflower who just wants to fade into the background... but the vampires? They've lived 100s of years, experienced untold dramatic events, seen every style come and go, and should have become masters of disguise in order to survive... and this is what they come up with? They should have either gone with 'actually in costume as a clique of preppy millennial teenagers' or 'unusual fashion sense that fits their vampiric life experience'. But instead most of them went with 'bland 27-year-old young professional who shops at a local department store and looks out of place in a school'. It makes no sense! The only outfit I liked was that pirate-y looking one and the fur cape, they seemed a bit more plausible.

you know what's sad? in the original vampire diaries books, Selena was a girly girl with blonde hair who cared about makeup and fashion. idk why they completely took that out of her character once it got made into a tv show
I think it’s bc it was peak “not like other girls” time, especially considering the way they treated Caroline in season 1
Changing her from blonde to brunette you could argue that point, but the TV series drove home the point that she was in mourning/dealing with her parents' deaths. In fact, the other characters are always complaining that she "used to be fun" in the series. I always thought that her muted wardrobe was a reflection of her grief rather than a rebellion against stereotypical girliness. Tbh book Elena was often mean spirited, especially toward other girls, and rewarded for it which I though was more of an offensive stereotype of the feminine "girly girl", but I may need to reread the books again.
They even mention sometime in the show, that before the accident that killed Elena's parents, she was like their Serena Van Der Woodsen, cause she was the ultimate party girl who also was a cheerleader and I thought the sometime she would bavmck to be like that but never happened
Not related to Twilight, but to 2000s fashion: I've recently been rereading an LA-based early 2000s book series called Daughters of the Moon, and goodness GRACIOUS it is really serving soooo much early 2000s fashion. The books always (especially for each story's climax) go out of their way to describe the outfits and the makeup, and honestly I'm living for it. So many low-rise and "hip-hugging" jeans and skirts. Halter tops and spaghetti-straps and strapless tops. Sequined accessories. Glitter eyeshadow and glossy lips. It's not usually things I wore, but absolutely they're looks I remember seeing everywhere in popular culture at the time. The books are definitely of their time and distinctly high school. The author knew exactly what she wanted, and she nailed it.

Fact that I'm now remembering from the books. Alice is the one who dresses everyone. She's the one who buys all the guys their clothes and makes them dress like that. Which she than moves onto Bella when she's a vampire.

On weddings seeming cringe, I think it’s the lack of a bespoke style that makes weddings seem cringe. At the end of the day, the wedding will be styled around what the bride and groom wants, sometimes one more than the other which also affects this feeling of “what they wanted may not fit them actually.” Like when you wear bold makeup when it’s not flattering for your face. You have a vision, you follow the tutorial perfectly but it still looks wrong because it’s not meant for your face shape.
Dream dresses that swallow the bride, busy decorations that make a small venue seem messy. You seldom see wedding styles that actually fit the occasion.

I remember Stephanie putting in the books that Jasper and Rosalie have the last name Hale, and specifically to get around the problem you pointed out. They’re not… NOT Cullens? But also, they’re not named Cullen. So the other kids at school did find it weird, but I guess the cover story was that Jasper and Rosalie were biological siblings and foster children or something along those lines and they got to live with their boyfriend and girlfriend. Which… idk. Still kinda flimsy.

I really liked twilight fashion (and Vampire diaries) especially Bella's! It emphasized reuse of clothing items in different combinations and normalized handmedowns (we see Bella wearing some of her Dad's flanels). All you needed were the lace top camis which were super cheap, any v-neck shirt, a pair of jeans, and boom. Mix and match for different outfits. It was very sustainable and I really liked that about it since we couldn't go out shopping often/had limited budget.
I like the reusing/handmedowns too, it was nice that the movie didn't make me wanna buy more clothes I don't need ahah

I think part of Twilightcore and many romance books is that it is the plainness of the main character that is romanticized and sexualized. Bella is sexy because she's homely, not in spite of it. It shows her "good girl" status and the romantic dream of an old-fashioned, long-term relationship it offers.
Many men, I heard, would prefer very pretty women for short-term shags, and plainer women for long-term relationships and of intimate, sweet moments. It's tied to intimacy and domesticity. Also, there is a type of men (highly predatory and sadistic) who specifically target women who have both low self-esteem and are considered plain or ugly by most others. Another aspect for the "plain is the new sexy", is that in the good old XVIIIth and XIXth century, up to like the turn of the century, maybe the 1910s, shapelessly cut clothes could, depending on the women wearing it, be considered more sexy and indecent than the highly fashionable garments with plenty of cleavage because it had a connotation of pregnancy (the proof one was "naughty"), intimacy (the kind of garments a woman would wear in the comfort of her own home) and even sensuality (since these clothes left the space between the legs open, these are the garments a woman would wear for a particular occasion), or even tied to prostitution (because many working class women couldn't afford the tighter cuts). So again, in universe, it makes sense for Edward to find Bella very sexy in plain, unflattering clothes, because he would have grown up in a time period where shapeless clothes were linked to intimacy.
I personally am not a fan of the Twilight look, nor verse, and I honestly prefer Diabolik Lovers, the game, not the anime.

I think the reason why all of the main characters are so plain is bc they want it to be relatable. When the movies came out you can see the characters, and Bella is not as plain, bc Kristen is beautiful

If you're gonna spout that insinuation with this little information I'd rather you do it correctly. It's well known in the twilight fanfiction that Jacob was never meant to be a main character. He was just some kid telling bella stories about the cullens on the beach. But smeyers editors/publishers loved him so much they were adamant he'd be a love interest thus he became a significant character
PER ALLERGIES: I went to an allergist doctor and he told me the nasal sprays work the best out of all anti-histamines. I am in USA and I get the generic in bulk at Costco. Hope you feel better!

@@LisaFevral I have a lot of allergies so I've spent time researching: medicated nasal sprays often contain steroids - which isn't as scary as it sounds, but still, long-term regular use can make the interior skin of the nasal cavity thinner which can cause issues. My doctor recommended I use the sea salt spray (no steroids) on a regular basis, and only bring out the steroidal spray occasionally when things are really bad. Occasional use shouldn't have any side effects. Hope that helps!

It's not surpising that late 2000s/early 2010s fashion is back. Things went minimalist due to the 2008 recession and the current recession is bring the style back.The colors chosen make sense for the films over all coloring as brights would have looked odd.Honestly the main elements are approachable and adaptable to many different styles and easy to acquire.
I’ll forever believe that the only character that had good outfits in the movies is Alice. (Mostly in the first one though, I can’t remember the other movies as well)

They told everyone that Emmet, Edward and Alice were adopted and Jasper and Rosalie were twins from another family that lost their parents and came to live with them. Also they were always in older grades with Emmet. And Edward used two last names to show he came to be adopted later in life and still keept his old family in consideration (wich is true in a way) but still very very wierd someone call the police

1:08 hi! a person that is allergic to the world here! i dont know what type of allergies you have so i’ll give you advice for all of them. i’ve been dealing with severe and so many allergies my whole life and these are some of the best tips i can give you from the top of my head:
1. REMEMBER TO TAKE MEDS, as a person with adhd this one is something that i have to remind myself constantly and it works, so yeah 😂
2. take cold-hot (like switching) showers/baths. if you don’t like the switching version take one cold and than the next one hot etc. sometimes i take like 3 showers a day, for me it really works
3. when we’re at it: also wash your hair and clothes to get rid of all the allergens
4. use vaseline for irritated/dry skin, but dont use too much, cause it somehow gets hot and starts to itch. i would recommend adding little bits until it works lol
5. saline solution can work wonders (especially paired with antihistamines) for itchy/watery eyes and runny nose
6. cold compresses can work for red spots and allergies and often cause headaches and it can relieve some of that too
7. stay hydrated, water is your best friend, i assure you. and after water coke (i dont know the science behind this, but it actually works)
8. try to rather ventilate your house during the rain, cause less allergens are in the air

@@LisaFevral Personally, my reactions are mostly respiratory and I pretty much self-isolate during hay fever season. If you’re planning on investing into gadgets:
1. Respro techno mask. I wear this out (with glasses and/or when it’s quite below 0*C) and on airplanes cause they insist on distributing newspapers 😤
2. Omron has a nifty portable nebulizer that’s way easier to clean than the regular one (though neither made much difference after COVID)
3. Dyson humidify + cool is better than Daikin 👏🏼👏🏼 The only noticeable difference Daikin makes (ive had two different models) is make the air taste sour. Dyson actually gets rid of my allergy to freshly cut grass in under fifteen minutes. You have to make sure to not let it sit with water for days or the lil filter will go moldy (it’s easy to clean but still). In my country it’s cheaper than Daikin (which seems to be the standard)
4. I’ve been using the simplest face sauna (gezatone) whenever I’m in waterworks mode. Works wonders
5. I gave up and ordered an eye bath (it’s not here yet).
Side note 1: I am saving up for a roomba cause traditional vacuuming through the April-June is sooooooo triggering and I’d appreciate recommendations (need the mopping function as well)
Side note 2: I’ve been allergic to aaaaaaalllllll the raw fruits with an occasional exception for unripe bananas since six y.o. (scratch allergy test might’ve triggered it but we don’t know for sure). Guess who can eat strawberries, even during hay fever, after having had COVID. Now I finally get why ppl love strawberries and cream so much, I just can’t get enough of them ✊😭
Thanks for the shower tip, I’ve never thought of it! Though showering REALLLY irritates my eyes during the season, I can barely make it to the eyedrops 😖 I use 100% lanolin (nipple cream) cause silicones, plastics, and Vaseline in general causes me breakouts. Lanolin is not vegan (it’s the waterproof coating of the sheep’s fur and byproduct of the wool industry) and it *claims* to be non-allergenic but I suggest you still test. Very thick, I apply before bed and wear gloves. //it kinda sounds like you’re allergic to Vaseline itself? it’s a common side effect

About allergies: try vitamin D (pay attention to the dosage!), it helped me. It's not an instantaneous "cure", but regularly taking it almost completelly solved my allergy. It might not do the same to you, but it's worth a try :)

I think that we kinda traumatized a poor boy at school because he shared Edward's name. Btw the boy at school was such a old man spiritual dude and he already felt so subconscious about his name and here comes this book craze with all the girls' at school

Don’t know if you’ll see this or not, but I’m also in cancer recovery. Chemo, for me, triggered Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, which basically means my body is treating things like allergens that aren’t. I’m on meds for it now, and I feel much better. Best of luck!

For the allergy, I found out I was allergic to SLS in moisturisers, so what helped me greatly was the moisturiser that is for eczema or sensitive skin. The main ingredient is “Avena Sativa (Oat)” apart from the usual moisturiser ingredients.

Omg so as a western Christian, I swear majority of us are not "going feral from an ankle-length-khaki skirt" repressed. True, a lot of us like to dress like casual librarian, generic-historical-inspo vibes, or "background character in Indiana Jones or the Mummy," but most of the time it's just because we grew up watching adventure movies, probably reading old books because everything that was coming out for the past 30 years was like, dystopian, and are trying to live our adventure-girly fantasy.
Also Mormons are their own thing, and not considered part of Christianity by most denominations of Christianity. There's a whole debate on it, so I won't go into that. However, for me personally, I consider them not part of Christianity because Jesus literally tells us that we don't have the authority to judge or condemn others, but Mormons, up until 1978 were like "black people are demonic, and less righteous than us." And while I strongly disagree with their beliefs, if they want to have those beliefs they are allowed to have them, at least in the US; I'm not trying to tell anyone what they should or should not believe, because that's not my place, nor my job. I read twilight in the pandemic until 30% of the third book + midnight sun (stopped cause I was starting to hate every character lol). I remember that while reading the books I have never been able to picture the clothes in my mind, especially for Bella. I thought her clothes were ugly, didn't make sense and I don't have the 2010 stiling mindset so it just sounded strange to me
