- Ledward Kaapana is often referred to as the Grandmaster of Slack Key Guitar, and deservedly so. But if he didn't play guitar at all he might well be known as the `Ukulele Master instead, because he certainly knows his way around the little instrument.
For the last few years his main `ukulele has been this magnificent custom creation by Chuck Moore of Moore Bettah `Ukulele: www.moorebettahukuleles.com/ Chuck built this uke from some spectacular curly koa, then inlayed it with a representation of the famous black sand beach of Kalapana, now swallowed by the lava flow.
Many of us might keep a treasured instrument like this locked up at home, but Led wants to share the best when he performs so he takes the Moore Bettah uke on the road and delivers some stunning `ukulele tunes at each show. Hopefully this little clip will give folks an idea of the fun his audiences experience.
Led is tuned to a normal C6 with a low G, spelled G C E A. My guitar is tuned to taropatch F spelled F C F C A C from low to high.
Audio was recorded using a Rode NT4, RME UFX interface, and REAPER software. Video was shot using two Panasonic Lumix GH4 cameras and edited in Edius. Видеоклипы
Thanks for keeping King's song alive. Aloha Ledward and Fran.
Wow. Never get tired of listening to you two together. Mahalo for the great sounds you continuously put out. Please keep posting - I assure you we're here listening. God bless you and your families. Take care.
Thanks so much for stopping by and offering your generous comment. I'm always working on the next video, whether with Led, other artists, or solo, encouraged by folks like you.
Fran
It's impossible to be in a bad mood listening to you guys play.
Thanks, Jared, I share your opinion. Led is the best medicine, eh?
Fran
Fran, yes he is great medicine, BUT, you too are an important part of the magic.
Hello, thank you very much. Wishing you happiness and success. Thank you very much❤❤
Thank you so much for all your kind comments.
Fran
If one doesn't love this, he's about to be dead!!!!! Thanks Fran and greetings to Led from Finland...
+JPHappo JP he always enjoys getting greetings from Finland, thanks.
Fran
i just picked up a ukulele for the first time this year. Thank you for being such a wonderful inspiration. It's as if the instrument is an extra limb for you - rather than something you're holding.
Yes, Led has a special bond with the `ukulele. I think he said he began playing the uke when he was 6 or so. Several great players have told me that they were inspired by Led's techniques.
Fran
Carry on perfect tone 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Led is such a master of the `ukulele. Glad you enjoyed it.
Fran
Wow!
Lovely, Aloha Friday!
Aloha, Janet! Isn't this a lovely piece? And of course Ledward makes the `ukulele sing so sweetly. I need to go practice this one right now (grin).
Fran
I love a a ukulele and have worked at playing one for years. Ledward is my idol. I could listen to the two of you all day! Absolutely everything I love, the genre, the instruments, the sound! Thank you!!!
Thank you for visiting and commenting. Thanks also for adding music to the world, there's never enough. Led is clearly one of the greats among `ukulele players, it was his first instrument in Kalapana and he stills takes his playing farther today.
Fran
Hana hou uncle !!❤❤
Yes indeed, Ledward really puts a special feeling on that lovely old song. I can't wait to play it again with him.
Fran
@@franguidry can’t wait to see that too!!
pretty song !
+Blair Stan Sinclair It was fun tracking down the real title, Ledward catalogs his songs by the first line, which is "Nani Hawai`i" but his friend pointed us toward "Song of the Islands/Na Lei O Hawai`i"
Fran
Mahalo!
+Judi Victor Ragsdale A pleasure, believe me.
Fran
❤❤❤❤
Why thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed the clip.
Fran
friend could you kindly inform me what are the strings that Ledward Kaapana uses on the ukulele?
I just checked with Led and he says he gets his strings from Chuck Moore, the same gentleman who makes his `ukulele. Here is Chuck's website: www.moorebettahukes.com/
Hope that helps,
Fran
Ledward the Ohana technician.
+Keiko FX Designs He really has it, doesn't he?
Fran
Fran Guidry He sure do... I saw him for the first time at my family reunion in Hilo in Feb and I was blown away. He's my cousin whom is related to the Kaipo family. My mother is Robyn.
That ought to be illegal.. ;) Thanks Fran
+olgoat52 Or maybe compulsory (grin).
Fran
Auntie Anne, I found the guys who stole your thermostat!
Do you think it will ever by a vintage collectible?
Fran
The Ukulele as it ought to be played but never was until you came along..... Seems impossible to get that much music out of just four strings on a mini me guitar.....:)......
+William Evans There are some fantastic uke players out there, but Led does seem to have a special magic on the instrument.
Fran
I am well aware of many of them, but Led is at one with his instruments..... An extension of his hearty and soul.....
The ukulele was buzzing that's not good.
