    tip: in the beginning go to your budget and drop both water and electricity to 50%. you are overproducing and losing money for resources you do not immediately need.

      The tip is solid. At the start of the game, cash flow needs to be managed more than any other time in the game. Once you can start utilising the services more then raise their funding until you reach 100%, after which time you can build more power, water, etc.

    Honestly I've seen some people making fun of the fact that he's constantly saying it's fine but what a thing to say. He's trying to reassure us because with games like these, it's very easy to be super perfectionist about it and it can drive people up the wall. He's kinda reminding us that it doesn't need to be that way. So thanks Luetin! xD

      Without gentrification we wouldn't have big cities. Nobody wants to live next to an unemployed crackhead on food stamps when you make 80k a year and, if that's the only option, a professional (you know, they guy that pays for the crack head's foodstamps) will likely look for a different job in a more favorable city. Mostly because he/she has options because they've earned them. They didn't spend their lives smoking drugs and shitting on the floor in the supermarket so, curiously, things are catered toward productive people.

    This game is ridiculously fun once you get it up and running and once you actually get out of the "negative income" where you are put into debt, literally you don't ever stop playing, you always have something to do and problems are constantly arising which means you have to find ways to solve those problems. Now in my first game; Everything was going great even without guides. Had several millions to spend and 40.000 citizens. Income was up to nearly 100.000 a day.
    Then THE catastrophe happened in a blitz; Didn't have enough power for a long while while I was looking at stuff forgetting to check the status. When I checked, the population had gone down to15.000 and I was nearly broke. I panicked. Which resulted in me deleting a powersupply AND a main road at the very moment I went into debt.
    Debt plunged down to 30.000.000(!) Yes, 30 MILLIONS! I really thought that was it. My very first game so proud. But I am determined. For many days I sat managing everything to get some income. took me around 70 hrs before I was debt free. Today, 2 days after I was in debt, my city is at 90.000 population and I have 2 million gold to spend.
    I am proud to ahve my city back. I'll bever stop playing that.
    10/10. And I'd do it again.

    In my experience, roundabouts are only good for light traffic areas. Once there's heavy traffic they easily become congested

    • @Kristofburger
      @Kristofburger 7 лет назад +18

      It's actually not because roundabouts aren't good for high traffic per se, but because of relying too heavily on a single intersection (as in the fastest route for too much traffic). It's technically the opposite; they're good for filtering plenty of traffic quickly, but everything has a limit. Not being able to spread traffic around enough seems like a pretty common issue in this game, and one factor for the fear of traffic lights :D

    • @MrC0MPUT3R
      @MrC0MPUT3R 7 лет назад +20

      Risto Salonen Also the AI have no clue how to use lanes properly :P

    • @Kristofburger
      @Kristofburger 7 лет назад +5

      The one lane syndrome? If they don't have reasons to use all the lanes on a road, they won't. Simple rules for simple AI that always uses the fastest route, haha :) There's actually a nice example of good six lane road placement in this video at 40:50. All lanes are being used by vehicles at intersections because there are destinations in all directions more or less equally. Works a charm with more intersections too as long as there aren't too frequent stop lights.

    • @MrC0MPUT3R
      @MrC0MPUT3R 7 лет назад +1

    For anyone watching in 2020:
    As you become better at this game, you learn to be more future-proof.
    This means better planning, preemptive preparation, and some of best tips are as follows:
    1. If you use wind turbines, you can use them to help spread the power grid, definitely cheaper in the long run than running coal + several connections.
    2. Use commercial zones to connect the residential zones to any noisy/polluted zones.
    3. Try to zone industrial zones CLOSER to highway entrances, so trucks don't have to travel through the whole town when you import/export.
    4. DEFINITELY pause the game before you're done setting up the basics.
    5. DEFINITELY adjust budget, taxes, as soon as you are able to.
    6. DEFINITELY know that "IT'S FINE" no matter how bad you screw up, just enjoy yourself!
    Might take awhile to get better, but you DO get better, and you will find yourself sitting infront of your screen designing a crazy city for hours nonstop!

  • @Izmael1310

    • @Glo0ze
      @Glo0ze 6 лет назад +7

      Distance is not the factor, it's about not having trucks drive through town. As long as the industry has his own way of getting on and off the highway it's fine really. So yes i do agree that his industry is not really smart since it has to drive straight through town. Be reminded that industry does produce goods for you town (for commercial zones) so having it in the middle of nowhere close to the highway is not always the best option ;)

    • @Hannodb1961
      @Hannodb1961 5 лет назад +2

      I usually start with a split in the road as soon as possible - one going to the industrial area, and the other going to your town. A third main road then links industry with residential. This triangle configuration keeps your traffic under control for a very long time.

    After watching your video I just want to say one tip. Put your commercial zones next to where you know the busy traffic is going to be. And put your residential behind those commercials. Your value will go up higher and faster. Another trick is to build a small commercial area somewhat close to your industrial area. That’ll make both your industry and commercial go higher in value also.

    I absolutely love simulations like these. I don't class these as 'games', they ARE in fact SIMULATIONS. I believe that simulations such as 'Sim City' , Skylines', 'Total War', 'Civilization', 'Empire Earth', Geoff Crammond's Formula One Grand Prix', and many more, are EDUCATIONAL!
    They could be used in schools to really give kids an idea of what it takes to build and run a city, or to drive a Formula One car, or to know what it was like during a war simulation (such as Total War which actually brings history to life). Or even to know how civilisation started (such as playing through 'Empire Earth').
    This is where, I feel, that the PCs really come into their own, far and above consoles.

    I'd like to add that you no longer need the traffic lights mod. If you open the left side panel and go to I believe Junctions (should be the bottom right icon on vanilla), you can set up if you want lights, stop signs, or nothing at all.

    Nice to see others currently playing this game and loving this 5 year old video! It was very inf and I'm hoping to find more on his channel. I always get the "not enough educated workers" issue, even with elementary schools, high schools and universities placed no clue what I'm doing wrong.

  • @Dhalin
    @Dhalin 7 лет назад +7

    I found your video quite informative! I really like the game, but I keep getting stuck because of traffic issues. I will usually get a city up to 25-30k people and suddenly, trash and corpses will pile up everywhere and they will go "WE NEED GRAVEYARDS! WE NEED GARBAGE DISPOSALS!" and yet I have 10+ incinerators running at 1% capacity and I've got 2 landfills at 1% capacity, and I've got graveyards all over the city with plenty of room, AND crematoriums...
    Ugh.
    Traffic always kills me in this game, how picky the traffic is. I remember the old days of SC3K where you didn't have to worry about it as much. BUT, I saw a few ideas in your video to try for my next city, and the map that you show looks like an excellent starter map, especially with that windy river which is perfect for river wind turbines later on.

    • @incognitoburrito6020
      @incognitoburrito6020 7 лет назад +2

      Your trash issue is coming from the trucks not being able to get into your city. They may be stuck in traffic, or they might just be too far away from some parts of your city. Try giving garbage its own direct "highway" into the part of the city it's farthest from.
      As for the deathcare, Cities Skylines is rather notorious for having "deathwaves", when a lot of people die at once. Unaddressed, they can abandon buildings and chunk off your population a couple thousand. At 25-30k, you'd probably be about in your first one. This is pretty much unavoidable and more or less a fact of the game, but can be mitigated. Make sure you have good deathcare coverage and good traffic flow so buildings won't abandon, but other than that, my only advice is to wait it out. It will eventually solve itself and things usually bounce back pretty quickly.

    Definitely the most simple easiest guide. Ive watched people make guides for this game and start you off by creating the George Washington Bridge and a layout that looks like Manhattan ffs. And than they have the nerve to say “Simply do this and do that”. Keyword; “simply” im just watching with my mouth open dont even what the hell he clicked. • @jmarddm1737
      @jmarddm1737 8 лет назад +58

      OCD means obsessive compulsive disorder, just because you get stressed doesen't mean you have OCD. It just means you're human, we all get stressed for a variety of differen reasons. IF you get stressed particularly often you COULD have an anger or anxiety or even a stress disorder. OCD simply means that you have a mental disorder that causes you to obsess over every little detail and chase perfection in life. it's not something to take lightly or joke about, people with OCD are generally disliked by most non OCD people and it can cause other things like depression, which can lead to suicide if it becomes a big enough problem. IF you do have OCD I wouldn't recommend announcing that fact as if it's something to be proud of. IDK what it is with you kids, all of you think you have bipolar or OCD or ADHD because of a few personality quirks. A quirk does not equal a diagnosis.

    Good video if you want to use mods. Not all mods are game breaking but that turning the lights on and off. IMO, gives you a false confidence as I believe anyone could use those mods with little to no experience and have similar results. I was really perplexed that you were so flippant with traffic flow and design at the beginning. Then we got into mods and turning traffic lights on and off......Now I understand why you had that attitude. For someone who wants to tweak the game to where there is no challenge just visually putting down a city, this is a good guide for that. IMO the game was meant to have a lot of those features you remove with mods. If every road (six lane junctions!??) have no lights then I believe that removes a lot of challenge and misrepresents a big concept of the game. To each their own though.

    •  7 лет назад +9

      You don't need mods to add/remove traffic lights. You just need to go to Info Views > Traffic Routes menu and add/remove them on the Junction Tab. The mod he uses just makes it faster to do it.

      Ziggurt It's just that you should've been in charge of traffic lights in the first place. It's not like they just pop up whenever you lay down a stretch of asfalt (in real life I mean). You as "the city planner" are the one who has to opt for them imo if you seem them necessary so the mod just added a function that should've been there from the start anyway so I don't look at it as a cheat.
