  • This campground is known for their tight spots. Is this how to park a 5th wheel? This driver had a challenging time backing into his spot and there was plenty of reason for us to be concerned.

@@oureverydaygetaway At the 2:36 mark starts the confusion I'm referencing. My wife watched this with me and she was just as confused. She thought he was meaning to turn his steering wheel but the gentleman giving directions was wanting him to turn his steer tire. Do not give hand signals with a turning circle, just keep it to a pointing direction and say driver/passenger. Hopefully this will help everyone. Another hard rule I implement is ONLY my wife gives directions. If she messes up then it's on us for liability. If the third person involved not related to you and your rig is not going to take responsibility for damage from a misdirection. I will say that they did a great job going slow and deliberate. Excellent video by the way.

I drove tractor trailers for 15 years at a company called Old Dominion. It takes a lot of time and patience to be able to do a fifth wheel, especially in tight spots. Now I’m 72 and all I’m thinking about doing is getting a diesel pusher something easier to manage Because I lost my skills but mostly just to make it easier for me. This was a good video and I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was nice to see a man helping another man try to protect their homes. We should all help each other, no matter what because act cost lots of money and usually it’s not us keeping the money. It’s the, auto body shop and the insurance companies!

That's a tough spot. We have a 5er. Amazing how much it helps when other folks have respect and don't encroach on another site. The green SUV was the issue from the start. If the gentleman in the boonie hat worked for the RV park he should have asked the explorer to move right off the bat.

    • @oureverydaygetaway

5th wheel are a lot easier to back than a bumper pull. They can pivot 180 degrees. It's all in the set up and knowing when/where to start cutting your wheels. He had a lot of room on either side of the site to work with also. Still he got it in there no issues. I have had to back peoples rigs in on a number of occasions for them.

You know I love you guys, but I don’t think your filming helped this guy’s stress any. I heard your rationale for recording, but I would have asked him first… just me, or maybe been more discreet. As others have said, I would have asked the green SUV to move before I started this. That really added to the challenge. I hope you got him that drink!

It happened so quickly we didn't have time to talk to the driver. He was a super nice guy and did a great job. The resort/campground takes everyone to their spot and backs you in so they should have asked the person with the green SUV to move ahead of time. The whole process of getting into your spot at this place is not good.

It was good that you were there Chris; they took it in a good way as well; sometimes they can get aggressive against you. So, the lesson for today is ( and it was obvious once the infamous green car moved away): don't be shy, step out of your RV and ask whoever is obstructing the path, to move the vehicle so you can park in your spot. That's it!! Simple.

Some RV parks need to really think about the spaces they give us to get these RVs in and out of places.

Everybody pulls out their phone under the guise of protecting themselves... that's the problem today. Nobody wants to help somebody... just pick up the phone and record. Maybe you'll get something good to show somebody, right? Maybe he'll hit something... oh, that's priceless! Film the guy on the tracks. Film the accident.. the mugging.. whatever, it's all the same. I'm just not that guy. And what if he did hit your rig... you think he's taking off? Gonna get away?

I've had a fifth wheel for two seasons. The only times I've struggled getting it into a site has been for the reasons you spoke about. Someone parking their vehicle on the road or a second vehicle that shouldn't have been there anyway. There was once I had a few choice words with an overgrown bush that needed trimmed out of the roadway. There was zero chance of backing in that spot without scraping on the overgrown branches that should have been trimmed by the campground. Most people are helpful if you need a vehicle temporarily moved though.
