My wife and I have been ful-time over 12 years and we've had RV's for years before and we knew and looked around for the best fit and we bought a used low mileage class a diesel to start and have lived ful-time in it for over 12 years and still love it, and what makes thing easier is I'm a mechanic so I do my own service and repair !! enjoy your video's !!
Hi there! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment! So glad you have the right RV for you, not everyone can say that! That's AWESOME you've been on the road for twelve years. Congratulations! I appreciate your kind words and look forward to seeing you in my new video right here: ruclips.net/video/YS8lIomOfVg/видео.html
For me, it all came down to the daily driver. I just didn’t want to be driving a 3/4 ton in cities or busy tourist spots. I also like the easy access to everything and not having to do set up and tear down in the rain. You still have some of that in a class A but not much. Finally, as a single woman, I just feel safer in my motorhome when overnighting on the road.
Yep. I am with you 100%. Since I am staying longer in campgrounds my fuel expense is actually LOWER than with a fifth wheel bc of my daily driver. Thanks for your comment!
Full time traveler here for about 6 yrs now. Started in a class A and 5 months ago got into a 5th wheel. Love my 5th wheel. When I decided to go full-time, I chose a class A because I wanted to do a lot of boondocking and as a single woman, I wouldn't need to leave my class A to get ina truck. If there was drama, I could just get into the driver's seat and go. I've since learned it's pretty safe out here but always trusting your instincts is a must. Great video!! Safe travels!
I agree. I've had three fifth wheels and I enjoyed my time with them. Now I'm loving my motorhome but there is no wrong or right answer...just what is right for YOU. Hope to see you out here and thanks for watching!
Another great and timely video! My brother and I were just discussing this - and here you are talking about it! I'll add a few other thoughts. Big plus to the motor home when traveling in inclement weather. Wind? Rain? Snow? In the 5th wheel, you're going to get wet and probably track in dirt, sand, dust, mud when you're setting up camp or just have to go to the bathroom. Motor home? Walk to the bathroom in comfort every time. No mess, no muss, no fuss. I realize that if you had a house problem with the motor home, you had to sleep somewhere else while they fixed it - but that's equally true with a trailer. And if it's the power train, there's only an advantage if you conveniently broke down after getting your rig parked and set up. In fact, if there's an engine breakdown on the road - you've got your toad to take you into town and get help or repair items: having a second engine could be a real life-saver. I'm going to give the advantage to the motor home here too. And if you need towing instead, I'm thinking the motorhome will be easier than towing both a truck/trailer combo - or worse, towing your vehicle in, and coming back to tow the trailer too that was left on the side of the road - or having to have two tow trucks out at once. I think security is better with the motorhome. Trailers can and do get stolen when you're away from camp: they're harder to lock down and a lot of that can be defeated fairly quickly. A lot tougher with the motor home. You made a great case on quality differences between the two. I sold a small 2015 camping trailer and bought instead a 2002 motor home - the difference in quality and sturdiness, even in something 13 years older, was amazing. And as you mentioned, all the bouncing down the road in the trailer is going to shorten its life: all that vibration just can't be good for it. But the motorhome has much less vibration inside: things should last much longer, and there's probably less flexing from all that bouncing around.
Not true if you comparing a cheap travel trailer or 5th wheel. Their has to be a direct comparison in quality of the trailer versus the motorcoach. I’m sure you arnt comparing a 1 million Newmar to a first river travel trailer. My drv has a better solar and lithium setup then a 1.25 million dollar mountain air.
Such great comments, they really add to the video. Thank you so much! Great point about inclement weather, break downs and security! As far as gas mileage, I am SAVING money with the motorhome bc my daily driver gets much better mileage than the one ton pickup that was towing the fifth wheel. I'm getting 7.9 with the motorhome, was getting 9 with the fifth wheel. BUT the daily driving difference between the two is where the real savings are. Thanks for watching and commenting!
They are very prone to leaking. The flexing on the body is rough. Especially in states that have bad roads. She should get a class c in my humble opinion.
You've got that right, Bob! It takes knowing your wants and needs before buying. A lot of people get in a hurry, but it pays off to take your time. Thanks for watching.
@@CovidFart yeah, I’m still doing cartwheels over here. I am thrilled with my new motorhome, just what I need to help me get over my broken heart. Thanks for being here.
I love your new home, Liz, I hope you are well, I just commented to Paul that each of you is amazing alone and were/are amazing together! Happy Safe Holidays!
My husband wanted the 5th wheel. I wanted a Class A. I won because, we both had cars & didn't have room for a truck. His car was a company car for work, so we couldn't sell one. Plus, we had 2 dogs at the time & our oldest son lives in Oregon. We had lots to see between Atlanta & Oregon. If we decided to stop at a roadside attraction or needed to grocery shop, we could leave the dogs in the rig with the air conditioning running for them. The set up & break down was so easy & we didn't have to transfer the dogs, they were already in their home! Not to mention I could use the bathroom & not worry about finding a place we would fit. I could make lunch, coffee or grab snacks and we only had to stop for gas! HUGS ~Donna
An older 5th wheel - depending on brand - is usually built much better than many RVs today. It's great to only have to worry about servicing one engine instead of two and 5th wheels have way less to break down than a Class A. It's also much easier to get a truck serviced than a Class A. I want to spend time in Nature, not in some shop, which is a much more common occurrence with today's Class A's & the other slipshod RVs being pushed out nowadays without enough quality control.
When I took up camping in an RV (not full time), I started with a travel trailer and for me, it was a pain in the rear to back up a travel trailer, plus having to worry about the swaying and hitching it, etc. This was too much. I sold it and bought me a Class C motorhome and I love it. I can flat tow a mid-sized truck or tow my car on a car dolly (flat towing is a whole lot easier to do than dolly) behind it for day trips and it is a lot easier to back in the Class C motorhome. I just unhitch and park the truck before backing into the site. It is a 2017 Jayco Greyhawk 29me with three slides, auto leveling system, and it is easy to drive and easy engine access. One big advantage of a Class C motorhome is crash protection and it has the airbags, three points of entry and exit, and a dash air conditioner and heater and even a generator. Setup and breakdown are a whole lot easier. Also, I can use a mid-sized truck to drive around and park instead of a huge truck, which is a lot easier to park and maneuver in tight spaces for day trips and lighter to tow with the motorhome. Also, I can still go from the cab to the living area without going outside. As for me, changing a tire out in a blowout is easier with a Class C than a Class A since the tires are the same size as a full-size pickup truck tire, whereas a Class A has bus tire. Some people say that unhitching the truck and using the truck for day trip is an advantage over a motorhome, but this means you will be driving around a huge truck (3/4 or even a one-ton truck) around which can be very challenging to park even at a Walmart, Target, or in a tight parking lot. As with the motorhome, having a tow means you can drive a small car instead or even a small truck or jeep. As for cost, it is a lot more expensive to buy a fifth wheel or even a travel trailer, plus the truck to tow it and a fifth wheel hitch and have it installed than to buy a used, well maintained Class C motorhome, and have a mid-sized truck that is capable of being flat towed that i already own set up for flat towing and to use it as a toad vehicle.
We have had 3 fifth wheels and now a MH (gas). I am 69 and when we were younger, the set up and breakdown was no problem. But at 64 (5 years ago) with bad knees and an arthritic back, it got real old. So we bought a 2018 Thor Hurricane (when they were actually built pretty well). Wow. What a difference. Unhook the toad, back in, level up and you are camping. We’ve never had an outside TV and love it. Residential frig with ice maker. We’ve had very few problems since ours was built pre pandemic. Bath and a half. Love it. We have our own bathrooms. So at this point in our lives after both knees being replaced, MH for us. Luv ya Liz!
One other advantage of a motor home is the ability to either back in or drive forward into the campsite. This is most often used when camping without hookups and the best view is out of the front windshield, like a lake or mountain view site.
Currently in Florida for our 4th winter. Second Class A. We really love Class A. Ours weighs 22.5 ton (45,600 pounds) and it just FEELS so much more secure than a flimsy bumper pull camper or 5th wheel. Smooth ride and plenty of room. First one we had was gas, and we loved her. This second one is diesel. We love it, too, but the cost of diesel is (currently) just ridiculous.
Hi Kathy! Thanks for your comment. Diesel is going down a bit in price. I'm noticing I am saving money on fuel each month by traveling just once or twice a month. The rest of the time I am using my gas toad which is way more fuel efficient. When I was in a fifth wheel I had no choice but to use that big old diesel truck 100% of the time. Thanks for watching and see you soon with a new video!
We actually live in a motorhome we love it but when parked probably we all would love to have the 5th wheel space. Each one has it's benefits like you said. You have to ask which one is best for you. By the way I absolutely love your new motorhome. Beautiful!!
Great video, Liz, thank you! We started out RV'ing with a 5th wheel, but only had it for 9 months. It quickly became apparent that it wasn't the best choice for us. Build quality was very disappointing, storage was lacking, parking it was a challenge. So, after 9 months we traded it for a Class A diesel pusher. We enjoyed that coach for two years until we discovered it was quite vulnerable to cross winds and effects of passing tractor trailers - I'm talking white knuckle conditions! So here we are in our third RV, a 2020 Newmar Dutch Star 4369. Finally, an RV we are happy with. Plenty of storage, great build quality, rock steady on the interstate, it tows our Jeep Wrangler with ease, and it is a bath and a half! The thing is, what may look good on paper might not actually work out that way in reality, no matter how much homework you do before buying, you really need to live in it, to experience it, to know what works best for you.
This is so true. Thanks for your comment. I love the Dutch Star and did a tour of the 3709. Newmar makes such beautiful coaches! Enjoy yours and see you in the next video.
What a great video! You make a great pitch for the benefits of a diesel pusher! Of course, you bring up the less appealing things as well but if money were no object, and I could convince Mickey, I would love that Class A. We have our fun times backing - especially back in our driveway at home! Excellent comparison and facts as usual!! ❤️
Great video! My wife and I are just starting to calculate whether, when, and what motorhome to buy, and this video was very insightful. Thank you so much!
You made some great points. If I had a family a 5th wheel would be my choice. However, its just the two of us and we love our 35 ft DP with a toad. Room for us and an occasional grandkid. Take care.
That's a great point. I think with a family a 5er would work better. That said I've seen large families living in an A. Thanks for watching and see you in the next video.
Awesome video Liz!! We camp with our other family members, so there’s 3 Motorhomes and 3 travel trailers on our trips. Lots of teasing between the MH ppl and the TT people.. 😂🥰 Love my family.
Liz, amazing again and again!! Your experience is superb, so helpful to beginners right up to experienced. I have over 7 years in, both fifth wheels and class A. And you are so easy to watch and listen to ( do i detect an accent? Or just such clear and easy listening to your voice. Maybe both??🙂) I have followed (and unfollowed) many full timers for over ten years. You are the top of the list by far! Thanks for yet another amazing video, and as always looking forward to your next. Stay safe, enjoy and God Bless. Till next time. 👍🙃😏💕
Awww, thanks so very much for your kind words, Bob. Fee free to share any of my videos elsewhere if you like. I am on a mission to get to 100,000 subscribers. So glad to have you here and I really appreciate your support and good cheer! See you in the next video.
Very well done, I have neither if I was in the market hands down the motor home. Would be nice just to pull over in a rest area and jump from the driver seat to bathroom and then a snack. Without ever leaving the vehicle.
Awesome! Looking forward to seeing you out here someday. Thanks for watching and see you in my newest video right now: ruclips.net/video/-4V8KVdMnBA/видео.html
We had a Reflection 320 MKS for 2 years which we really liked. We traded for a Solitude 380 FL and really love it. It seems more solid with the 6 hydraulic levelers. We tow with an F450 dually. Parking the truck can be challenging, but we choose to park in the back of parking lot and walk in, not a big deal. We thought about a DP, but the negatives of maintenance and insurance while also having to pull a tow vehicle we decided against it. That’s not to say a class A diesel pusher isn’t in our future as we get older. There are pros and cons to every options. Thanks for your great informative vids.
Thanks Michael. Yes, I loved both the Reflection and the Solitude. I agree that as life changes your RV needs may as well. Thanks for watching and see you in the next video
Your analysis is very good and very thorough. We have a Class A diesel pusher bought new in 2000. We have 140,000 miles on it. Lots of repairs but that will be on any RV. We have 2 slides and do not use the front slide unless we stay put a few nights. We have plenty of space with them in.
We've been camping since 1990, always using a 5th wheel. Trading up for newer ones every 5 to 7 years, alway Jayco brand. Our children and dogs have traveling most of the US every summer as hubby and I were teachers with summers off. We loved them. Didn't have to pull a support car, just unhooked the camper and used our truck. Never had a problem parking the truck when exploring away from the campgrounds. We liked getting outside at the rest stops and stretching our legs, walking the dogs, letting the kids run. Wouldn't have wanted to keep everyone locked up in the motorhome. I can definately understand why older people like the motorhomes, or if you're in the RV full time. But for us and our family, we preferred a 5th wheel.
Another huge advantage is that Class As have over trailers is that they have truck tires which really smooth out the ride. Either 19.5 or 22.5s, vs the tiny 16 inchers on trailers which beat the hell out of them and can cause all sorts of issues.
Liz, outstanding comparison!! You nailed it: OCCC (occupant cargo carrying capacity). Most fifth wheel frames come from one manufacturer. That frame is not designed to carry the weight owners will put in the cavernous storage of built-ins. I discovered NO RV salesperson will voluntarily disclose the OCCC and will in fact play dumb and lie through their teeth. This is also true for Class C motorhomes. When tiffin come out with their Class C we were serious about buying one until we looked at the carrying capacity which was less than 750 lb. Tiffin engineers were designing Class A solid wood cabinets and solid countertops along with a host of other heavy heavy interior furnishings. Even leash your way has problems with the cargo carrying capacity so you have to be very careful. We wound up buying a fully loaded Winnebago Navion minus the leveling jacks because they weigh a little over 200 lb. Our capacity is 1300 lb. There are fifth wheels that are not much more.... That's shocking. For the most part, Class A frames are built to safely carry the weight.
Yes! So glad to hear you did the research, Earl! Airstreams are another one where the CCC is super low, about 1200 pounds. That's not much for fulltiming it so most folks end up weighing down their truck bed with stuff. Thanks for your comment and see you in the New Year!
I really like this channel because it touches on topics that are really decisive in terms of motorhomes and four-wheelers. This is particularly a much-needed video, by the way. 🤩
Yes. I've seen some like that. I think it's just the nature of the beast that the bedrooms always have to be in the back (or almost at the back). Happy to hear you love your Class A! I am thrilled with mine. Looking forward to seeing you on the road!
I agree. Class A moterhome is the way to go. If you are over 27" long. Have slides. You can not get into some spots. There are very few class a mhs that can do that. I went with 25" Tiffin retro 1986. No slides. Split bath. Perfect for me. Smaller the better.
A lot really depends on a person's individual needs and wants. I have had a couple of trailers and we went on vacation with my in-laws in their big 5th wheel. We now have an older Minnie Winnie. We love it. We decided to look for a motorhome as we have cats and want to take them with us and not have to transfer them from vehicle to trailer. We also like the idea that in case of an emergency we can just go to the front and not have to change vehicles especially if we are just are just stopped over night somewhere.
Yes, that's a great point. When you have pets, a motorhome gives so many more options on travel days. Plus if it's hot and you stop to shop or eat, you can turn the generator for AC for them. Thanks for watching.
This was super helpful!! I think I'm still prone to the fifth wheel. I'm currently a single guy so I don't have to worry about the backing arguments of the fifth wheel! :) And I think I'm more interested in a variety of layout options that the fifth wheel provides. I really appreciate the insight about travel days...I wasn't thinking about the tearing down and setting up every time. I'll definitely have to consider that!
We have a coach that is 43' long with 3 slides. We bought it because of a lot of the reasons you gave. We can travel over 1000 miles without stopping for fuel. We take our dog and cat with us when going somewhere. Our toad is a Lincoln MKX 4 wheels down. We can boon dock for a week without worrying about dumping our tanks. It's quiet going down the road and rides like a dream. It's our home away from home. We love our sticks and bricks and will not full time in a RV. Ray
@@marysvilleguy Driving a motorhome and pulling a toad is not a problem. I have to dis-connect to back up but driving down the road is no difference than a semi and trailer.
Hi Ray! Yes! You make a great point about traveling with pets. It's just way easier to have them travel in your home versus loading them in a truck. Plus when you stop, you just flip on the generator and they're comfy while you shop or explore. Thanks for watching.
Yes, Larry. I have come to believe there is a perfect camper for every season in life. Heck you can include tents in that! Enjoy your 5W and see you in the next video. Thanks for watching.
You really do your homework! Thank you. I had a pull behind for a few years but got discouraged with the high cost of RV park sites. When they approach $100 per night I can stay at a nice hotel for just a little more. I would love to see you do a video on reasonably priced RV parks that you visit.
Great video and information Liz! We have a travel trailer (currently only weekend campers for now), but our goal has been to get a 310gk 5er and do some longer term travel. We like the ability to park the camper and drive off in the towing vehicle. We have always said a motorhome would not be for us. But you raised some great points we never thought of before. I can see the appeal. I still think the 5er is our goal, but you made the motorhome not be a complete write off now!
Well, there you go. During the 2.5 years I lived fulltime in the 310GK, there was very little not to LOVE about that floorplan. It's really a great fifth wheel. Whatever you get, just glad to hear you're going to be getting out here even more often. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Liz. I've been following you since your review of the Reflection. I bought the same one, and I also travel solo full-time. I love motorhomes, but they are so much more expensive than a truck and 5th wheel (depending on what you buy). I was lucky to get into RV'ing in 2020 because the prices have skyrocketed. I'm always waiting for your next video. Thanks again!
Oh wow, you've been following me practically since the beginning. Thanks so much for being here through thick and thin! Big hugs to you! I do love that 260RD floorplan. I strongly considered getting it or the 303 when I was shopping just now. BUT I would also have to get a truck. It's been nearly three years since I've had the 260RD. But every time I see one I still get excited! Enjoy yours and hope to see you on the road.
I sold my sticks and bricks to my son. I even carried the note with no deposit down. I'm 66 years of age so just wanted to see America and some of its finest people. I have meet so many people and I'm here to tell you most people are what I would call Great Americans. Sure their are those 1 to 10 % that make it feel like 120% . I thanks God for the people that I have meet in my travels. Maybe it me and you are a reflection of what is around you " I do not know ". I love the extra storage and ease of moving from place to place.
Hey Liz I’m totally agree with you I have before my motorhome To fifth wheel and is much easier to have a motorhome for everything it’s corral do you say that you have an engine and transmission bad it’s still better easy to park and to drive and the highway
Great content. I have to think maintenance would be a wash if you had a gas motorhome and a diesel truck with 5th wheel. Just everyday maintenance is dramatically more expensive on the diesel tryck than on the two gas engines (motorhome and towed). Also, I think initial cost is a wash also (if looking at used). The cost of the truck you HAVE to have to pull modern 5th wheels that weigh 16,000 pounds or more brings the cost of trailer and truck a lot more inline with the cost of a motorhome and tow setup (assuming you already have a car you can tow). I always felt the 5th wheel was much more home-like, but when I looked at the price of used trucks these days it was an immediate decision to go Class-A. 12 years ago I bought a 12-year old diesel to pull a 5th wheel. I paid a little over $6k for that truck. Today the same truck, that is now 25 years old, is $12000. If I wanted to look at another 12 year old truck, I"m looking at a minimum of $25k. Add that to the price of a 10 year old 5th wheel ( $30-35,000). You're looking at $55,000 to $60,000. I can get a 12yo Tiffin Diesel Pusher for $56k or a Gasser for $25,000-35,000. It's something to think about.
That's exactly how I feel, Brian! Trucks are so outrageously expensive these days. You're right that a gas motorhome will likely give you an advantage on maintenance costs. Thanks for your comment.
Another great video Liz. My wife and I bought a used class A. Previously, we had 2 bikes to take short trips to the store or on bike trails at the campground. We are now going to have a toad. We will let you know how that goes. Our class A costs less than a new compact car. We love it. My wife can use the restroom or make me a sandwich, while we are going down the road at 60 mph
We have owned them all. We now have a motorhome and you are right the motorhome we like a lot better. My wife loves our jeep toad to get around in towns we are visiting. We have a 40foot mh and believe it or not the motorhome is so easy to drive. We got a rear engine disel 400hp. Has all the power we need in the mountains of colorado or any roadway. You are right a mh is the way to go if you are fulltime. Most people do get a pickup with a 5th wheel. The problem with a 1ton and 3/4ton is not power on 40foot 5th wheel or longer is stopping power. Pichups are dangerous and thats why most people with heavy 5th are going to large semis heavy duty trucks. My motorhome has air brakes and it will stop the motorhome and toad very quickly.
My choice after these years would be a class A ! I still like the self contained unit and when you park it , you don’t have all the set up to go through each time !
We have had all in our time RV. It just depends on preference and use. Currently we have a class A that we love, with easy set up and breakdown and a lot of storage. It can be a challenge to drive when it’s windy.
Great video Liz. We have had 3 different 5th Wheels and now that hubby has retired, we are looking for a used Newmar Dutch Star. I love the idea of a motorhome, like you said, you don't have to get out of the truck to go to the bathroom or stop and make a sandwich, especially if it's cold and windy. We leave Tues in our Montana headed to Indiana to spend Christmas with our daughter and our only two grandbabies, ages 3 and 1. Praying for good weather but we know it will be very cold, especially coming from Southern Ca.
Hi Cindy! Oh goodness, I hope you did not get caught up in that arctic blast we had around Christmas. That would have been rough! Happy Dutch Star shopping and hope to see you on the road!
Nice video Liz, I have over 90,000 miles on my 40 foot Monaco diesel pusher and another advantage to the diesel pusher is driving when it is windy. I have driven when trailers could not stay in there lane due to wind and I did not even feel the wind until I opened the door and could not hold the door. The much wider tire track of the class A diesel makes a big difference in stability. I usually run the generator with at least one air con on so the RV is always at a good temp
Great video Liz... Good compararisons of pro's and con's of both. You are looking great and seem so happy! I hope you are enjoining your new home and your life reset!
I been taking my time and won’t be ready to decide in about 5 years. I do like the paradigm brand from alliance fifth wheel. I also like the entry level FR30DS forest River class A. I do already have1 ton Chevy duramax truck . If I buy a class a it will be used within five years.
We have a smaller Class A now and absolutely love it. If we have to pull over for a while because of adverse weather conditions we can access everything without opening the slides and we don't have to go out in those adverse weather conditions to do it! We also tow a little Toad that is perfect for us and our dog. Another thing to consider is the stress of setup and teardown if you're getting on in years. Once we park in our campsite it is a matter of hooking up to power and water, pushing a few buttons to extend the slides, and levelling. DONE!! Thanks for another great video!
Liza amazing I hope you are just taking time off chilling and nothing is wrong. Thought about you a lot over the holiday. Hope you are staying warm and safe. 😊
Thanks! Yes, I posted on the community tab that I am taking a break over the holidays. I'll be posting videos soon! Thanks for watching! If you'd like, ring the bell to get a notification as soon as a new video comes out. Happy New Year!
WOW, Liz you hit the nail on the head in your discussion of differences between a Diesel Pusher and a Fifth Wheel. I have been around rv's all my life. I even owned a Winter Texan RV resort. When I retired I spent three years on the road. My first rig was a fifth wheel with a '15 duramax and my second is a 2004 40' diesel pusher. For me, the pusher was a superior choice for all of the reasons you site. Economically the depreciation compared to new would be 1/4 less than the depreciation on a new or late model MH. Since I paid cash, upgrades, maintenance, and repairs are still less than the payments on new. Considering the capacities on a pusher, I have boondocked at Caballa on the Yellowstone outside of Gardner Mt in the summer and spent the Valentine's Day Texas Freeze in Houston very comfortably.
You’re absolutely correct. I went from a class A to a fifth wheel and all your points are spot on. I’m really looking forward to going back to a class A someday soon.
Thanks so much for this. It's really a lot to think about and sometimes it takes experiencing both to know which is right for you. Thanks for your comment.
I'm usually a solo female camper, so motorhome is best for me. I have a 2012 Tiffin Breeze 32br pulling a 2022 Jeep wrangler 2dr. I'm 65 and this is a much easier setup for me. Love your videos!
We have a travel trailer. However I think the biggest advantage to having a motor home is the parking! Every time we go somewhere, I get that churning sensation in my stomach when it comes to backing in a spot. Having a motor home it seems like it would be easy. I remember the second time out in our brand new Coachmen Catalina, I backed into a tree on the side of the camper and caused almost $6000 worth of damage! Camper was in the shop the whole summer. I don't think that would have happened if I was in a motor home. Anyway, thanks for an awesome video and keep 'em coming!
Your videos are so great. So much info. My hubby and I have been kicking around which do we want. We went from Class A to a 5th wheel in our thoughts. Because of the breakdown issue and not wanting to lose the home if it needed work done on it. We have 6 cats! lol. Now I'm thinking a Class A towing a van that's equipped with a bed and sink, etc. So if the Class A breaks down we would still have a place to sleep with our 6 cats. As long as it's not too heavy to pull with the Class A. Again... your info is awesome. Thanks so much!
You are so welcome Kathy. Several folks pointed out if you have a motorhome you don't have to transfer your pets to the truck (as you would with a fifth wheel). And if you stop for groceries you can just flip on the generator for AC. Thanks for your kind words and Happy New Year! See you soon with a new video.
Liz, I love my Motorhome for the same reasons you do. I can easily stop and jump in the back. I don’t have as much work breaking down and prepping like I did with my travel trailer.
Great information! We've had a 5th wheel for the last eight years - a move up from tent campers and bumper pulls. I motorhome might be in our future for next year! Thanks
I don’t see any recent videos on your chnl. Are you still on the road ?
@@Thatcntrygirl1 No, I’ve had to stay put in Missouri to care for my brother who has stage four cancer. Thanks for asking about my channel though. 👍🏻😊
Hey Liz, you didn't mention gas mileage between the two.. can you please mention on your next video.. thanks, Larry
With every RV there's compromise. The best one is whichever is best for you.
You've got that right, Bob! It takes knowing your wants and needs before buying. A lot of people get in a hurry, but it pays off to take your time. Thanks for watching.
@@LizAmazing like buying a massive Class A RV just after a breakup. Oh the irony
@@CovidFart 🤣👊
@@CovidFart yeah, I’m still doing cartwheels over here. I am thrilled with my new motorhome, just what I need to help me get over my broken heart. Thanks for being here.

@@LizAmazing Will do! Thanks!
As a family of 5 we love the 5th wheel, we can unhitch and drive around if we need to. We also love the floor plans.
Yes, fifth wheels are GREAT for families. So glad you got the right camper for you! Happy travels.
My husband wanted the 5th wheel. I wanted a Class A. I won because, we both had cars & didn't have room for a truck. His car was a company car for work, so we couldn't sell one. Plus, we had 2 dogs at the time & our oldest son lives in
Oregon. HUGS ~Donna
Wow, you make some really great points, Donna. Especially about the added comfort for pets. Thanks for your comment!
Yes, definitely pros and cons to each one. Thanks, Celeste!
Luv ya Liz!
Exactly this!!! I do love how easy it is with a Class A. Thanks for sharing your experience, Steven, and happy travels!
One other advantage of a motor home is the ability to either back in or drive forward into the campsite. This is most often used when camping without hookups and the best view is out of the front windshield, like a lake or mountain view site.
Yes! Great point, Paul. Thanks for this. HNY to you and see you in the next video.
Beautiful!!
Awww, anks so much! Yep there are definitely pros and cons with each. Thanks for watching and seeyo soon with a new video.
I love my 5th wheel
Yay! So happy you are with something you like. I loved all three 5ers I owned. Thanks for watching and see you in the next video.
Take care.
35’ is a sweet spot…I wish we had not gone up to 38’.
Oh that's awesome! I can imagine how that goes!!! Thanks for being here Elizabeth and Happy New Year!

Your experience is superb, so helpful to beginners right up to experienced. I have over 7 years in, both fifth wheels and class A. And you are so easy to watch and listen to ( do i detect an accent? Or just such clear and easy listening to your voice. Maybe both??🙂)
I have followed (and unfollowed) many full timers for over ten years. You are the top of the list by far!

We are on our 2nd class A motorhome. First one was a 34 ft. Now we have a 41 ft quad slide and we love it. We tow a Cadillac SRX with it.
Sounds like a great setup. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your motorhome and see you in the next video!
Love the tried and true bumper pull.
Yes! Glad to hear this Monica!
Liz, this is a very helpful video for me. I kept going back and forth on which to choose. Thank you for your very helpful tips!!
Your analysis is very good and very thorough. We have a Class A diesel pusher bought new in 2000. We have 140,000 miles on it. Lots of repairs but that will be on any RV. We have 2 slides and do not use the front slide unless we stay put a few nights. We have plenty of space with them in.
That's awesome! Would be so fun to meet up some day! Thanks for your kind words.
I bought a 2001 Monaco windsor. I love it. I plan on watching all your videos on what to do when i finally hit the road. thanks
Congrats on your Monaco, I've heard good things about them. See you in the next video!
Thank you so very much, that is very kind of you. I appreciate you watching and see you in the next video.
Love our Class A! Our master bath is in the back/ W&Dyer. Then the bedroom ❤️❤️
Yep, definitely go no bigger than you can manage. Sounds like you have a great rig. Thanks for watching!
As I begin planning for retirement, this was exceptionally helpful while I consider options!
Yay, so glad! Thanks for being here, and for watching. Happy planning!
Thank you for this comparison. Super helpful for us in deciding which to go with.
For us, class A pusher. Will never go back to a towable. But its still up to every individual. And by the way, great and so accurate video.
Thanks so much for your comment, Erica! Hope to see you out here!
We went from a travel trailer to a Class A.. we love it and are currently full time. It’s like being home.
It sure is! Glad you made the right decision for you. Thanks for watching, Sherrie and see you in the next video.
I'm a homebody. Having an RV let's me have the best of both worlds, traveling but still having a "home " to come back to. Merry Christmas!
Yes, so much to like about RV life including all the possibilities. Thanks for your comment, Deb.
Ray
Damn, 43’ and a tow vehicle! You must be a great driver or avoid turning😁
Liz another fantastic video, great comparison of the 2 RVs. I enjoyed this BUT I'll take my 5th wheel. Till next week be safe, be happy. 👍💖🕊
Yes, Edward! I should definitely do that. Thanks for the suggestion. And for watching. Happy New Year!

That's how I feel! And I did a tour on a Dutch Star. Love them! Thanks for watching and see you in the next video.
It's always great to hear from you, Richard. Congratulations on your motorhome. Happy travels to you!
Merry Christmas Liz, I hope you are having a joyful holiday!
Thanks so very much, so far so good! Happy New Year!
I love class A motorhomes. They're so nice. Especially the well built ones.
Yes. Lots to love. Thanks for watching and see you in the next video. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Thanks for explaining this. Very informative. You make great videos.👍👍👍👋👋👋🙏🙏🙏
Awww, thanks so much! Glad to have you here! See you in the next video.
We’re trying to decide but leaning toward an A class. It seems like and set up and take down is easier.
We have had a motorhome for 5 years. Loved it. Now trying a truck and fifth wheel. Also love it. 🤷♀
That's how I am. I loved all three fifth wheels that I had. Thanks for watching and safe travels. Hope to see you on the road. HNY!
Interesting video, thank you! We love our 5th wheel for full-time RV life, but there are definitely some perks to Class As!
Yep. There is no right or wrong, only what is right for you. Looking forward to seeing you out here.
@@LizAmazing See you down the road!
Great advice, thanks
We're in a fifthwheel , but loved hearing your take on both
Thanks! I've had three fifth wheels and LOVED my time in all three. Glad you are enjoying yours. Hope to see you on the road. And Happy New Year.
We have had all in our time RV. It just depends on preference and use. Currently we have a class A that we love, with easy set up and breakdown and a lot of storage. It can be a challenge to drive when it’s windy.
Ooh, I bet Barbara. I am not looking forward to windy days for sure. Thanks for watching and happy travels.
Liz, your an amazing source of practical information. Great to see you looking and sounding so well. Greetings from Oz.
Awesome, or should I say Oz-some comment! Glad to have you here and see you in the next video.
Your right on the motor home, it’s safer too!
I think so! Thanks Linda. See you in the next video!
This is the most helpful video I’ve seen. Newbie here! Thank you 🙏
Yay! So glad you enjoyed it, feel free to share.
Trailers and high winds,, not fun.
This is so good to know, Gary. Thank you. I haven't driven in the wind yet and was wondering what that would be like.
Great video Liz... Good compararisons of pro's and con's of both. You are looking great and seem so happy! I hope you are enjoining your new home and your life reset!
Thanks so much! I'm loving my new home and am so happy I decided to continue RV life. See you in the next video!
I’m going to sell the 5th wheel!
Thanks Liz!
Ha, ha, Kevin! Hope to see you on the road!
I been taking my time and won’t be ready to decide in about 5 years. I do like the paradigm brand from alliance fifth wheel. I also like the entry level FR30DS forest River class A. I do already have1 ton Chevy duramax truck . If I buy a class a it will be used within five years.
Sounds like a good plan. I'm sure you noticed that Paradigm in the video, they sure are nice!!! Happy shopping and planning to you!
Having azdel siding is a big plus
We have a smaller Class A now and absolutely love it. If we have to pull over for a while because of adverse weather conditions we can access everything without opening the slides and we don't have to go out in those adverse weather conditions to do it! We also tow a little Toad that is perfect for us and our dog. Another thing to consider is the stress of setup and teardown if you're getting on in years. Once we park in our campsite it is a matter of hooking up to power and water, pushing a few buttons to extend the slides, and levelling. DONE!!
Thanks for another great video!
Thanks so much!!! Yes, as we get older we want EASY. Thanks for your comment and enjoy your Class A!
Start with this video! Best MH vs Trailer which-to-choose comparison I’ve seen.
Yay! Feel free to share it! And thank you!!!
Excellent presentation Liz! Great comparison. With ya for a motorhome.
Thank you so much. Big hugs to you! See you in the next video!
@@LizAmazing Love your videos!

Awww, thanks so much for the good cheer, Michelle! Happy New Year and see you soon with a new video.
Love my 2020 Newmar KSDP 40’ MH.
Yay, Pat! I love Newmar. Thanks for being here.
Great video! You do amaze me going on your own. I'm too chicken to do that.
Gotta push past fear! Thanks Marilyn!
Good advise/observations from someone who has owned both. Thanks.
Thank you Drake!
Having our own toilet & shower & king bed, split bath is great. Our old coach is a Monaco Diplomat. 8 mpg.
Yes! Great points about the split bath. Enjoy! And I just did the math, I'm getting 7.9 so I"m very happy. Hope to see you out there!
Thanks for saying this, Karl!
Great advise! Thanks Liz!
Thank you, Paula!!! I hope it works out with your motorhome.
Well love our 29ft bumper pull! We plan to full time in it in a few years.
Awesome! They can really be great. Looking forward to seeing you out here, and thanks for watching!
Thank you so very much for this information. I'm newby and needed all your info.
Thanks so much for being here!!! Looking forward to seeing you out on the road someday.
Oh that sounds like an awesome setup, Cecilee! Thanks for your kind words and looking forward to seeing you in the next video.
Great video with excellent points to consider. Thank you.👍🏼😎
Thanks so much for watching, Rick!
So sorry that happened Gary. Unfortunately all too common! Thanks for watching and your kind words. See you in the next one!
Liz .. sharing your experiences are amazing , God Bless You ! 🙏
Thanks so much, Eddie. Sure appreciate you commenting within the first hour, really helps the channel! Have a great weekend!
Great comparison. We went from a travel trailer, to a 5er, to a Class A. Your observations are spot-on. Thanks for the video!
You are so welcome, Craig. So happy to have you here. Happy New Year!
Glad to hear this! Thanks for watching.
Another great video! And don’t forget about the great TT options too.
Yes! So many options. Thanks for this Callie. Happy New Year and see you soon with a new video!
We have a Jayco Greyhawk 29MV & love it. Easy to drive Class C, will be adding a flat tow vehicle next year.
That's awesome. Thanks for your comment and hope to see you on the road. Happy New Year!
Great information! We've had a 5th wheel for the last eight years - a move up from tent campers and bumper pulls. I motorhome might be in our future for next year! Thanks
Thanks. Nothing wrong with fifth wheels, I've had three of them! See you in the next video.
I prefer my 5th wheel. More mobility for us. Thanks
That's awesome Ken! I loved the three fifth wheels I had when I had them so I'm definitely not knocking them. Happy travels to you and HNY, too!
