  • The first stop in Oakland from San Francisco, and the last stop in Oakland to San Francisco easily became one of my favorite stations in the system to check out.
    What you'll see here is the entire fleet in action, comprised of Bombardier, Alstom, Morrison-Knudsen & Rohr cars all arriving & departing from West Oakland Station.
    I hope you guys enjoyed the video. Subscribe & stay tuned for more!!

    I was on vacation in 2016 in San Francisco and this was one great way on getting around the bay area. Hoping to go again soon later in 2020 or sometime next year. Bart is a great way to get around just as long as you know where to go and getting off.

      The old trains are extremely long in the tooth now. The fact that they were custom jobs built to order for BART really hasn’t helped with long term maintenance. We really do need new trains.
      Hopefully the new trains at least share more parts with existing models and are easier to maintain. We can’t afford to waste the same insane money on maintenance we currently do. BART’s “cool, custom, futuristic trains” were a pretty disastrous decision in retrospect, but at least now we know what not to do.

      As someone who has ridden both and was a daily rider for both, Bart I faster hands down. DC metro can go just as fast, however stops are closer than bart stations and trains run manual so they slow down more. If you've rode Bart, you'll notice it doesn't jerk or stop real suddenly as often as other systems across the country.

      @@ejdsndnj He is actually right. These BART trains routinely go 79mph in operation. They’re technically limited to 70 mph to reduce wear, but they still run at top speed to catch up to their schedule.

    • @TohaBgood2
      @TohaBgood2 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@ejdsndnj But BART is still the fastest rapid rail/metro system on the continent by at least 5 mph. BART, the DC Metro, and MARTA were all built at the same time as part of the same new metro building boom in the US.
      Of these, BART is by far the most direct embodiment of the "regional metro" concept. Unlike the other contemporaneous systems, it does not run in a single large city and its suburbs. Instead it connects several large million population + cities inside of the same megaregion. So it actually needs the speed to make those long interurban trips viable.
