I was curious about this too. 1 kW equals about 2.5HP thrust power for the Torqeedo 4.0. Because of the marketing BS (brake HP) and inefficiencies and better low RPM torque they can use more efficient props too. No gears with direct drive. This is according to info from Torqeedo but it's plausible.
When comparing to gas you usually multiply by 2-3x. If replacing a gas saw with electric you generally half the HP requirement. When I looked up gas thrust output, it’s usually around 35 lbs/hp iirc which lines up.
I think that Paul guy is pretty cool actually. I like his handling of the craft. It's almost like he's professional, even though he might not be. Would learn to operate that ship from him, 10/10.
