    Great test! There does not seem to be a consistent way to compare pounds of thrust and hp. For my kayak, I was considering the cheaper option of getting a used perhaps 70 or 80 pound thrust motor. Realtime testing is the only solution. I am now sold on going the NK300 route (Newport's 3hp kayak model). My pedal kayak will probably approach 7mph and the pedal drive will be reserved for fishing movement once at the spot!

Now i did perform the test on my intex mariner 4 inflatable raft, not the most hydrodynamic boat... I bet it can hit 5.5 maybe even close to 6 on a jon boat....

      It's a great battery. The only thing I didn't realize what lithium batteries will give 100% maximum power until they go dead. So you won't know the battery is almost dead because it's still pushing at maximum power. that goes for all lithium batteries tho but I just wanted to make sure you were aware. Have you had the NT 300 long? And have you used it much? I ordered it, and my first one didn’t work. Sent it back. Received a replacement three months later. Took it out once, and it worked great. A few weeks later, I headed out again. And this time it didn’t work. Different issues for each one. The first one had no throttle response. The second one the LED display screen stopped working. So now I’m in the process of a second warranty claim. Using an Ionic 36v 50ah battery (new).

    I'm not sure this is a fair comparison. It might have been more fair if you had compared it with the MinnKota Riptide 112, 36v, 52" shaft motor, which is cheaper than the longshaft version of the NT300. Although Newport Vessels is based in San Francisco, their motors are built in China.

    I think you would notice the difference in a thru weeds test. The minn kota is made so it will go thru weeds (prop) . Which in turn will kill top end performance.

    You do realize that the props are different right all trolling motors are registered for 4-5 mph the props are built for torque thrust put that 3hp on a 4000lb boat that this 86 lb trolling motor is rated up too. Change the prop if you want speed over torque 👍

    • @hookemrods8101
      @hookemrods8101 9 месяцев назад

      @@GeorgiaBassmaster must be the same pitch as the factory prop that pulls the same mph. So you basically wasted money on a prop that just says it does better from a name. Because if it had a 12:1 pitch instead of a 2:1 pitch like the factory prop it would have been 10x faster than the factory prop

    • @hookemrods8101
      @hookemrods8101 9 месяцев назад

      @@GeorgiaBassmaster I build you a prop that will make it faster it's all about pitch on the prop and for it to be pulling only 4-5 mph it's a 2:1 prop built for torque not speed. No trolling motor out there will do over 5mph because of the prop pitch for all trolling motors. Put a 12:1 pitched prop on it redo the test. Then do the same hp because the 86 lb thrust trolling motor is only 1.8 hp vs a 3 hp comparison you're trying to prove. That's like putting a 250 hp outboard up against a 450 hp outboard on the same boat with the 450 having a 4 blade deep pitch prop and the 250 hp having a 3 blade 18:1 pitch speed prop. Same things going to happen the 250 mph will be way higher than the 450 hp torque prop.
