Wonderful presentation. Great skill and experience teaching students, combined with compassion for people with difficulties, and a nice touch of humor. The ideal martial arts teacher!
eventhough i do have 8+ years of TKD training i always get something whenever i watch every single clips that you made.. you are very ressourceful and explaining everything theoritically.. i wish i meet you last 20 years ago master. you are the one of the TKD master I admire most...
U gotta love this guy....the best thing about him is that he does not lie ...he said it frankly (Not everybody can become flexible) I needed to know this looooong long ago
this is really useful tutorial ever i see, i am and i was too stiff but but now i am going flexible with following this technique. . thank you Master Woo
this guy does 5- 10 min videos & I learn more from him than I do with my own whom I meet in person everyday... then my master be like... "Where'd u learn that move!" 😲💀
I've learned a lot from these too. I go to 2 different schools (though one main school), and it's hard not raise eyebrows by wanting to do a more advanced version of a kick, or just a kick we haven't learned yet.
Thanks master Woo. I studied TKD in the 60's and 70' s under jhoon rhee. At that time I was flexible and could do good kicks. Now, however, I'm 67 and have much tighter and have some hip problems. I am doing yoga to try to regain flexibility but it is a challenge. So I'm trying to learn how to accommodate form and do lower kicks while striving for correct technique.
I find that most students start with the spinning crescent kick that you're suggesting as an alternative to the hook kick. It's not only easier to kick high, it places the head in a position to see the target more easily. As they improve, the foot starts to rotate until they're actually doing the hook kick. Oh, Master Woo... 1985 called. They want their mullet back...
That vertical 180 degree high kick would do wonders to an opponent who keeps trying emphasize the clinch or trying to clinch. With their jaw open, and the foot crushes their mouth closed, and their entire head will shake back with their mind destabilized. What do you think?
Very nice video and advice! Thank you! I've never been naturally flexible. One thing that has helped me be the best I can be is to hold my stretches for longer periods of time and to do dynamic stretching to lessen the chance of injury.
Docinaplane Most people have pretty bad flexibility especially men.I was a bit more flexible than average before I began stretching. After 4 months passed by i could do splits on the ground
Hello, Master! I like to ask you a question. I am passed my middle age. When I was young I learned to do karate. I was seriously on to that and got my self below the Black belt. I never continued karate but did Yoga. Now I am continuing that and I am still having those karate moments in my body. But my body is not flexible at all for some kicks. But I love to start some practice. But my body is less resistive to some training and it is the flexibility. Do you think I can re-train me into karate into some level? I love your videos and training techniques.
Hello master woo, i just wanted to ask if you've already seen Ken Lo Wai Ken scence vs Jackie Chan on Legend of the Druken Master? Is it possible to kick like that? like one leg kicking and then raise his leg like a straight pole ?? what do i have to do to be like that? do i have to train my leg's resistance?? if so? can you give me advices? thanks master woo
I am flexible enough, but my left leg which is the weaker and less flexible gets easily a stretched tendon around the groin and this hinders my training. Do you have any advice about that?
I am going for a selection and the syllables says continuous kicking 3 mins. what does that mean I mean isn't possible to do double roundhouse for 3 mins can it be short front kicks .any idea ?
Won't it be possible to increase flexibility? Ive been taking tae kwon do classes for nearly a month now, I'm not very flexible, but I'm noticing that my splits are getting a bit wider and with some side stretches I can touch my toes on both sides.
If you kick very hard, it will actually be slow for the beginning of the kick. If you relax and kick off light, the kick is actually faster but lack power.
I've trained for over 6 years in martial arts and I can tell you this -- in a street fight, you do NOT want to kick high. Why? Personally, I love opponents who kick to my face because not only does it not knock me out, but it also makes it much easier for me to throw that person off-balance and end them on the ground. Instead, its far more practical to go for the legs. Kick the legs until they can hardly move, then setup the final blow by an elbow or punch to the chin, temple, kidney, liver, etc. to put them out cold. I personally cannot kick high due to autism, so I just use street-applicable techniques to make my moves more versatile.
Hold on, that reverse hook kick isn't a hook kick anymore it's a sort of fast spinning back crescent kick and that side kick has turned into a turning kick that uses the heel.
My problem is that I get dizzy after doing too many spin-kicks in a row. I sometimes tease my friends by kicking over their head ^^ The reaction of them is gold
Take a tip from dancers and control your head. You need to keep your eyes on the target without letting your head move through the majority of your spin and whip it around at the last minute. It's difficult to explain (so look it up...) but if you can learn that, you can spin forever and not get dizzy.

I'm a yellow belt and I can do the splits.

Someone who faithfully stretches everyday will not have tightness at any age. And if you do Yoga with that, its a big plus plus.

It is combination of flexibility and strength of the leg.
Have a look at this tutorial.

You should put this into writing. I'd buy that book.

Thank you for your support.
I would, but I can't kick that high!
I am flexible enough, but my left leg which is the weaker and less flexible gets easily a stretched tendon around the groin and this hinders my training. Do you have any advice about that?
Very nice video and good advice
Thank you so much for your kind words and support.
I have a great teacher, but I still like to see your vids
how we can fly higher tell some tips woo master
If those High Kicks are practical for real Life fighting, then somersaulting 3 times into the air can reenergize the PENG capacitors?
I m stiff how many days it will take to be flexible
This guy is a frickin ninja
I am going for a selection and the syllables says continuous kicking 3 mins. what does that mean I mean isn't possible to do double roundhouse for 3 mins can it be short front kicks .any idea ?
Mantu Mukherjee not short full power-till the 3min are over
If I ask anyone to do continuous kicking 3 mins, I would except stamina, combinations of various kicking skills and footworks in overall.
Merci encore
Excellent
You are very welcome, thank you for your support.

Definitely, you can increase the flexibility by stretching.
If you kick very hard, it will actually be slow for the beginning of the kick. If you relax and kick off light, the kick is actually faster but lack power.
Speed👏👏👏 precise 👍

Amusing ;)
Is it necessary for high kicks we need flexible
It is not required but good to be able to kick high.
This master can kick!!!
My feets are stiff not flexible like u and i want to learn full taekwondo

I appreciate it.
TaekwonWoo Thank you so much sir (:

Lol he is so much like my master,it scares me lol
Don't be scared, my friend!!
My problem is that I get dizzy after doing too many spin-kicks in a row.
I sometimes tease my friends by kicking over their head ^^ The reaction of them is gold
Not sure what my search terms were, but there's info out there about tips to not get as dizzy. Helps a bit...I think.
Switch the foot each time of your kick, and mix with non-spinning kicks.
Take a tip from dancers and control your head. You need to keep your eyes on the target without letting your head move through the majority of your spin and whip it around at the last minute. It's difficult to explain (so look it up...) but if you can learn that, you can spin forever and not get dizzy.
Sometimes nearsighted people get more dizzy than others.
I'm naturally inflexible, am I never gonna be able to become flexible?
