  • Dr Rhona gives you the lowdown on how you can remove surface staining from your composite bonding!
    Composite bonding is extremely popular but it is not a permanent solution, and one of the common issue people face with composite is staining.
    What can you do to prevent staining and what can you do to remove it?

    Thanks I've learnt from this, this is the problem with my front tooth totally from watching this video. My dentist didn't explain any of this to me. I had a chipped tooth and within 1 year it has chipped off in a different place, is discoloured and I'm so embarrassed of my smile. My dentist didn't explain what he was doing originally or why or how to best take care of it. Nothing. You are an amazing presenter and you explain things I didn't even know I needed explaining to me. Can't express my appreciation enough. 👍👏👏👏

    Dr. Eskander thank you so much for making this video. I looked at every source I could find on how to get stains off of my front tooth composite filling and every one of those sources said it was impossible to whiten them and that I would have to get them replaced. But then I came across your video and everything changed! I bought a waterpik and used a sonicare electric toothbrush too. After about 3 uses of the waterpik, the filling is MUCH LESS visible. Now I'm not walking around looking like I have something stuck between my teeth! I've been really upset about it and I"m so glad I tried what you recommended. THANK YOU

      I took care of them, did all the things told not to do. I don’t smoke, drink wine or coffee. I gave up standard tea & curries. I don’t know what else I was supposed to do but all that felt like a big enough sacrifice. Despite this, yellow blotches appeared within a few months & I was told all food can cause staining. Electric toothbrush etc. was useless. This video is implying that it’s our fault if the bonding ends up looking bad. You also have provided no helpful solutions.

    Wow u explained this so wonderfully I immediately subscribed… when I was a child very young I had a little brown stain on one of my right upper front tooth’s … I honestly don’t know how that stain got there but it was like a little brown dot.? I was like 7 or 8yrs old and they told my parents I wasn’t allowed or they weren’t allowed to use bleach to remove the stain out … & being that young and I was already picked on in school because my hair looks terrible I had a major mean kids/bullies in school… I didn’t want to use the toothpaste they prescribed to get rid of the stain because that meant I would have to go to school with my tooth looking really dark… Long story short I pitched a fit and my parents made the decision to just put composite bonding over the whole tooth… here I am at 33 years old and it’s still there but I think I might’ve had a little bit of gum recession maybe due to aging and just brushing my teeth harder and I can barely see where the bonding used to be up to my gum line… and it’s still holding up like a charm however…. I would like to remove it one day and try to bleach the stain out from under my front tooth if it’s not too traumatizing lol… it’s good to know that it can be filed down I loved how do you used the nail term shellac to describe it… such a well spoken beautiful woman… now if only I could find a dentist I trust I don’t have insurance though… sighs

    My dentist misinformed me. I had 6 teeth done and bonded. I am very irritated by the fact that removing the bonding material now involves damaging the enamel after I specifically ask the dentist 100 times if this procedure will harm my enamel in any way shape or form and they explicitly said NO. Such a bummer. I never had a cavity in 33 years of living, perfect teeth and oral health, and its really frustrating the because of some minor cosmetic touch ups I now need to damage them.

    • @DrRhonaEskander

      Composite is composite, it really doesn’t mater which technique is used to place it, it all has the same chemical structure.

    • @DrRhonaEskander
      @DrRhonaEskander  2 года назад +2

      There are many different brands of composite on the market all with different claims. But essentially they will all have a similar lifespan, will stain and will chip, as well as the actual material the frequency of chips etc is also technique sensitive. For example if there was moisture present when placing/curing the composite it will likely fracture or chip more quickly or if the clinician places the composite in a position that is within the bite the forces will mean that’s more likely to chip. I wouldn’t say that any composite material has a huge amount of durability over any other, it’s marginal.

However I have had to replace it many times and wish I had been told it stains so easily when I first got it. It is so expensive now to get a veneer not sure what to do. It really looks like hell now all yellow. One dental hygentist did scrape a layer off with a razor blade once and it looked good for a while, but it just stains again.

    I just discovered you Dr Rhona and have subscribed. My front teeth were damaged and I have just completed having them reconstructed with composite bonding at a dental college. They look great but I am so afraid I may have made a mistake. I possibly should have had crowns instead. I am very health conscious and my diet has included daily teas or coffee, nuts and blueberries. All the things I read I am supposed to avoid! I am so very afraid! Should I have financed having my teeth crowned instead? now it’s too late. I am not sure what to do since I do not wish to give up my most loved and healthy foods and drinks. Is there any way to avoid serious stains? After a search there is one toothpaste named "Supersmile" that claims to be created by the inventor of tooth bonding, Dr. Irwin Smigel, that removes stains from bonding. Could that be true? Are there any products or toothpaste you recommend? Any advice for me?

      Iam planning to do my teeth bonded i about a week, and my dentist recommended me to do whitening for 2 weeks ans stop whitening a week prior to the bonding. The reason is the bonded teeth will reflect and match the underlying color my teeth have. She didn’t force me to do it as long as you are happy with the shade of your tooth.
