    The Icom menu system is the most intuitive and genius from all radio brands. Its so easy to setup things and remember where things are. The Yaesu menus are spaghetti mess compared to this. Thanks for making these deep dive videos. I learned a lot even tho I dont have a 705 (I do have a 7300) Hopefully soon. 73

    I have ordered my IC-705 which is supposed to be here in 2 days, I cant wait to get my hands on this one. It will be a lot easier to take into the field than my IC-7300 is.
    Thanks for walking through everything as this radio has a LOT packed into such a small size.

    Outstanding review. So much nicer than reading the manual! There are many finer points you show that are not easily uncovered from the manual. Thank you and congrats. Looking forward to a similar overview of the d-star features.

    I appreciate you taking the time to explain everything. I saw your first video with your IC 705 and followed your other A-Z with the 7300, so even though I think I know the 705 by now, I still learned a couple of things today. Looking forward to other videos in the series, especially the BT and WiFi features and practical uses. 73 and Happy New Year. de KN3A.

    I’m newly licensed with a new IC7300. Found your series before I received my radio so held off viewing until the radio arrived. I am visually orientated so I really appreciate the overview. This will make the it easier to become familiar with my radio as I tackle the manual and actually use the radio. As I expand and grow into the radio and my license it will be nice to have a reference to jog my memory along the way. Thanks! KJ7YNH 73.

    You are one throw guy! Have you ever thought of doing the same thing for the Kenwood 590 SG? Though you probably would have to own one! I am blind and I like that you’re very thorough it’s hard for me to read the manual to Kenwood on my phone because they wrote it different size columns and you’re supposed to know by the size of the print where you’re supposed to go hurts my head

      Hi Chad. Thank you for the kind words. I never thought that my videos would be helpful to a blind person, but I'm glad that you're finding them useful. I still have a lot of ground to cover and catching up just on the Icom rigs. I've had several Kenwood radios, but I currently don't have any Kenwood HF gear.

    Thanks for the excellent video. What is the least expensive way to run direct power to the IC-705 so you're able to operate at 10 Watts? Is there a "plug-in to receptacle" mini adapter solution - like you would have with a laptop for example? Trying to avoid initially buying a larger "power supply" if possible.

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  9 месяцев назад

      Hi. First, thank you for the kind words. This is an excellent question! I hadn’t really thought about this because I already have 12V supplies for my other radio gear. You certainly don’t need a large station supply for just this radio. HRO sells a 6 amp power supply for ~ $47.00. They list the supply as being suitable for the 705. According to the Icom manual, it draws a maximum of 3 Amps in Transmit

    Amazing video, exactly what I needed! Question, at time mark 10.29 what is the transmission that moves across the whole band scope from left to right? I see it on my 705 sometimes and have no idea what it is.

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  3 года назад +3

      Hi Steve. I've seen that multiple times on my 7300 and on the 705. I've seen the pulses sweep across 80M, 40M and 20M. It's amazing the things we notice with a spectrum scope that we would never be aware of with just a frequency display and nothing else. I do not know exactly what that signal is. I suspect it is related to the HF over-the-horizon radars that various countries' militaries operate. From what I've read, I believe they normally operate over a fairly narrow range of frequencies, but maybe those sweeping pulses are some type of probe or calibration signal to see what frequencies have the best return echoes at that time.
      Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you're enjoying the videos.

    Thank you for building this series of videos... I'm starting at the beginning after finding one in a random search. Do you have a video where you discuss your ball mount system? Can you provide links to the parts? Thanks in advance, 73

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  3 года назад +3

      Hi Steve. The ball mount is just a Manfrotto PIXI Mini tripod. Here is a link for one on Amazon: amzn.to/3hZUtrq
      There is also a littler higher end version, the PIXI EVO. It has a little more adjustability. You can find that one here: amzn.to/3wveJ9u
      Note that these are both affiliate links, but that doesn't affect your price.
      I first learned saw this tripod with the 705 on Ham Radio Crash Course - another RUclips channel you might find useful: ruclips.net/user/HamRadioCrashCoursefeatured
      Thanks for watching! 73, Tom

      @@HamRadioA2Z Thank you very much. I'm a bit embarrassed that I didn't think of Manfrotto. I have a carbon fiber tripod, a carbon fiber monopod, two ball heads and several camera quick disconnect mounts for my DSLRs. All of them say Manfrotto on the side ;-) oh well.

      Yes. I have seen digital mode software for iPads. I don't know if you could interface the radio to it through the USB port though. You might have to build/find an analog audio interface.

    So I have a quick question: When you reference the "max watts" for the power output, is 10 the absolute limit to the power output? Can I apply a 100w amplifier to benefit of the additional output if needed without doing damage to the radio?

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  2 года назад

      Hi. The Max Watts is the maximum power that the 705 will put out. You can always add an amplifier after the radio to get to whatever (legal) power level you want. The display on the 705 won’t show the power coming out of anything downstream from the radio.

    Hello. Is it possible to communicate with a radio or repeater that has DMR but is not DSTAR?

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi. Unfortunately, no. DMR (and C4FM that Yaesu uses) both use different protocols and a different CODEC to convert from audio to digital and back. So a DSTAR radio cannot communicate directly with a DMR radio. It’s one of things that I don’t care for about the digital voice modes. Unlike AM, FM, and sideband, all of the radio brands don’t support a common standard. A few years ago, some company announced a coming radio that would support all the major digital modes. I don’t remember their name, but I’ve never seen anything on the market.
