As always Frank is the best of the best. He has saved my butt on the HT's and now on the 705. My hat is off to you Frank, I can't thank you enough. K3USS
Every once in a while along comes a teacher who is easy to follow in an overwhelming topic... This video did it for me. I don't have my Tech yet, but I can see me doing what you're doing... It ain't gonna be impossible. You should get into sales! And thanks again!
Took some time away from amateur radio. Saw videos on this rig, and I had to have one. I love it. It has also inspired me to get off my duff and finally get my Extra. Great video!
Best overview of 705 on RUclips. Well done Frank. I’ve had my 705 since last fall and you’ve still taught me a few tricks - especially your explanation of the spectrum center/fix. 73 de KI4ASK
@@frankwc0o Mrs D (KI4HHI) and I used our IC-705 for Winter Field Day this weekend. Your tips on how to use the spectrum (using center/fix) really helped. I was able to make a 5w contact from Georgia to Quebec, Canada. 73
As I approach getting my General license and purchasing an HF radio my choice is heavily determined by what YT videos there are that will support my learning. Frank you're providing that kind of support. Subscribed!
Frank, that is one of the best videos on the 705 yet. I now have a fairly clear understanding of the unit what with your help. If and when the proposed stimulus check arrives I plan to do the patriotic thing and stimulate the economy with a new IC-705! I'm now subscribed and looking forward to more great videos from you. 73 de Chris W6NOB DM14ei
What a great informative video. It's the best video I've seen so far pertaining to the IC705. I ordered one and it should be here tomorrow. Now I know how to set it up. I already know the settings I want to change and you just made it super easy for me to do so. Thanks for taking the time to post such a great presentation. Barry, KU3X/QRP
Also, if you're an FM DXer, the IC-705 has decent selectivity on the FM broadcast band. I was able to separate some adjacent channels that I could not with the Yaesu FT-897.
Hi im a new ham I have a tech and I just bought a IC705. question: if I but the external battery pack for 10 watts. could I just keep it a 10 watts. or is there a reason to go below 10 watts? ........ I plan on buying 1 100 watt amp to make to more versatile.
Can you down load your setting to your tablet as your back up incase something goes wrong with the radio. Can you lock the 705 it someone steals the 705. For some reason they what you data?
Click on Menu, touch the wrench "set", touch the display icon, scroll all the way down until you see system language -> English. Tell me if that worked.
the 705 is badly missing a vertical "portrait" display mode allowing it to be held in a human hand and used as an ht with antenna pointing up Icom 's ergonomics department was asleep take the 705 and put it in your hand, carry it around the block in your hand, bring it up to your eyes it will be vertical in your hand the display should be able to turn vertical as well
I am bummed I can’t just put a small antenna on the bnc and work repeaters lime an HT. I guess because the body is plastic. It wants an actual antenna. Wish I had known that before buying it. This radio doesn’t do anything better than a kx3 does. Dstar terminal mode is stupid. Overall I am really disappointed with this rig. It can’t be taken portable like my kx3 can. It’s way fragile.
Hello Best Laid Plans. Were you outside or inside when you tested this? If you were inside, you might not get good results regardless what radio you have. Also, check your antenna if that supports the band you are using. Another thing you should do is check the SWR meter when using the antenna. I use a telescopic antenna and it works fine, outside. Good luck.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope you pass your Tech exam soon. Good luck and be safe.

Thank you Kieran. I hope you do well on the Extra exam. Have fun and be safe. -73
Best of luck! I took a hiatus while I was active duty, but after I found some extra money I bought an HF rig that motivated me to do the same.
Great review. This gonna be my first and hopefully only home base station/QRP rig . It does so much
Hey Frank - thanks for the vid. Well explained and just what i needed today as I set up my new 705! Cheers from VK

Nice video, I’m thinking of getting the IC705. I’m a newly tech licensed if you could explain the acronyms as you go on and what they are.
Excellent overview, just got my IC-705. Tnx, Faris N2FH
Thanks Faris H.
Excellent! Thank you.
thanks Franck great video 73 from kb2uew

Ya you can keep it at 10 watts. Some say 5 watts is low power. QRP.
When I click on a frequency I saved in memory it goes right back to the frequency in a VFO and not the memory frequency, why?
Can you down load your setting to your tablet as your back up incase something goes wrong with the radio. Can you lock the 705 it someone steals the 705. For some reason they what you data?
All the recordings and settings can be stored on a SD card. As for locking it, that’s a good question I don’t know.
Can you have to antennas connected two
the radio at a time. That way I can go back and forth between UHF?VHF to HF?
As long as you have a switch. You can go back-and-forth.
Can you tell me how to change the 705 from Japan to Eng ????
Click on Menu, touch the wrench "set", touch the display icon, scroll all the way down until you see system language -> English. Tell me if that worked.
You say, "we." I hear only you.
hi nice video, if you could go little slower. I/we are new hams
How Much $$$ please
