    I became a multimillionaire in my late 30s. How? I have a high paying career, own a business that makes 6 figures/year, heavily invested in the stock market, bought rental properties and equally important, I have been saving >90% of my earnings. I don’t go on fancy vacations and post them on FB. I don’t drive an expensive car. Surprisingly my net worth has gone up since the pandemic. Real estate is booming although my business is slightly down. I am still working at my 9-5 job but I am in cruise control. I don’t stress out about anything because I know I have already won the game. Having a peace of mind is one major benefit of having money especially when you are still young.

      johnny lee How do you think I make my money? I am providing service that is needed especially with my business. I also pay a boatload of taxes which is fine by me since my college education was largely paid by tax payers. We were poor once so I get it but you need to ask yourself....what are you doing? It is always the people, who cant even help others, are the ones that demand others to do more.

    I’m a FIRE millionaire. Just worked hard, saved a lot of money while I was working. Paid off my house quickly. My advice would be to never carry debt other than a mortgage you plan to pay off prior to retiring. Don’t buy new vehicles on credit frequently. I always keep vehicles 10-15 years. Every time you move or upgrade homes it is also a lot of money lost. Find a house you will want to live in long term and not more house than you actually need to be comfortable, put 20% plus down, and pay off the rest asap!
    Lastly...unless you are planning to sell your house and move to another lower cost area you should NOT even count a house and its fluctuations as part of your net worth! If you plan to live there indefinitely (and you have to live somewhere!) it doesn’t matter the current value. Also NEVER count personal items like a car and appliances etc. as part of net worth! Never heard of anyone doing that! It gives a false sense. I like to count only liquid net worth as net worth for retirement income purposes.

    • @eightsprites
      @eightsprites 4 года назад +1

      Thanks for sharing. I’m on the fire path myself. Really solid advice you got. I do count my house into NW, but I do not consider myself FI until I reach my target in liquid investments. My car is 16 years old, and can become older. I do not drive much.

    I guessed it right away. Among people who are worth north of million that I know of, one of them bought an apartment in stinkin Santa Clara for less than 200K. It is now worth more than 1.5 million. You can guess as to what it would be, if someone had bought it in Evergreen area of San Jose. They were literally selling at around 500K at one point in time. They are all easily over 2 million today. Now once you have a home, you save on rent even though you do pay interest if you have taken a mortgage. I'd say that the ones who are really lucky are the apartment/home owners who bought homes when they were very cheap, like right after the 2008 crash, and are now reaping the benefits of having made a smart investment of buying a home at that time. Not only did they pay off the mortgage soon as the homes were relatively cheaper, but they also saved a bunch because they did not have to pay rent. So almost all of their salary went directly to their savings! Those days are gone BTW. There is no way that the old strategy of buy a home and save on rent, will work anymore.

    Tip: I did a cashout mortgage refinance in 2019, at a loan rate of 3.75%. I paid off 0% interest rate credit cards, with 1/4 of the cash, and I'm using 3/4 to pay my living expenses for the next 3 years. This also allows me to do 401K to Roth rollovers, at a low tax rate. You all can do better than I, as mortgage rates are now lower. I'm a 59 year old, retired millionaire. Don't miss out on capitalizing on today's low interest & tax rates. They won't last forever.

      Maybe that's based on some insecurity that bullies in their history exploited. When you go off the prescribed path and get rich, you're going to feel validated. Maybe so much that you feel a need to invalidate other paths that you haven't looked at.
      Then you have the cult of personality types, where the real bulk of their wealth after 1 million was in selling advice to impressionable people looking for alternative paths.

    • @ariefraiser140

      @@BeatTheBush I think getting the degree is a much more certain way of achieving millionaire status on average. I work in IT and the amount of people I've worked with that don't actually know what they're doing and are going through the motion is surprising. Yet every year those people still get the same profit sharing as everyone in my current company that's averages about 25% of your salary. The company forces you to put the 1st 10% in your 401k.
      As an entrepreneur however you can't just fake it and be successful. Yes. Some entrepreneurs luck their way to an easy million before the market catches on that what they're offering is crap but for the vast majority of people they have to put in considerable work.

      I still think it’s a mistake to count the equity in the house you live in for FIRE net worth. You just need to fully OWN where you live when you retire whether it’s 100k or 2M. You must have other income streams either from your portfolio of investments and/or a pension and/or real estate or whatever. The more streams the better, and at least one guaranteed steam for essential expenses, in case one or more dry up. FIRE lasts longer than a typical retirement and takes much more planning and assets to do well.

    I save $2800 per month. Enough to buy almost 3 iphones .... EVERY MONTH. Yet, I never owned an ipone, I make good money on my 6th job in the past 5 years, getting more money everytime I quit. Many people don't make 2800 per month... I save that amount. I'm noy even frugal... people were surprised when I bought a home at age 25, and when they see me traveling the world... u just have to be smart instead of worjing hard. I sit at work and work 2 hours a day. Sometimes I go 2 weeks just sitting there. Others work hard, I use my time at work to invest, read, learn.

    Right on point. Never sit on a job. I switched jobs 5 times in the past five years, and everytime I got 10-25% more money. I make more than the median household income in the usa, and it is very easy to become a millionare if u are able to negociate a good salary instead of sitting on the samr job. That and having a good woman who works :)

    It makes sense that the first 100k is the hardest. Compounding ROI grows exponentially the more money you have. A 10% return on $10,000 is $1,000. But on $100,000 that same return is $10,000. And $1,000,000 is $100,000. The more cash you have to invest, the more quickly that cash will grow. More cash more growth.

    My Dad got offers to work in Engineering jobs when retired, when they were insourced and outsourced and has also been involved in night vision goggles and they wanted him to work on DNA in retirement. He’s generous yet conservative and always practiced saving living below his means. He always linked money to a job, so was too conservative with home purchasing...of course he has the 7 digit equity, but it’s about whether the area makes you happy or not. When they moved to the area their specs weren’t available and they were used to great housing and areas. In CA, you take a hit on something in housing but still get heavy equity. My recommendation is to buy the whole area....the environment, town, neighborhood. It will cost more but it’s worth it in every way. Even so, just because it’s pricier doesn’t make it worth it. Buy a different city that’s beautiful and commutable. At least your taxes are paying for aesthetics.

    Do you have one million of liquid cash in the bank? If not, then you're not a millionaire. If every home owner, included their homes, in their overall net worth, then all home owners in the Bay Area is a millionaire, the millionaire status will be meaningless; like with college degrees, everyone has a college degree, the market is flooded with bachelors and master degrees, so much so, they've become meaningless.
