      This is an internal move to a different department. I start on Monday February 7th. My new Manager commented that he liked how I quantified the results in my resume. The recruiter told me I wasn't supposed to get an increase but they liked me so much, both recruiters pushed for a 5% increase which all the Managers agreed on. That doesn't include the increase in March for merit. My resume was stellar! Thanks again!!

    I can attest to the content of this video and the important points, it's pretty spot on. The one thing that other "resume tips" seems to get the wrong idea is the point that you need to create a "good looking" resume from a design perspective. And as someone who has been working as a HR lead, recruiter and Project Manager for the past 10 years and I have taken care of well over 100 resumes personally and oversees over 5000 applicants over my entire career on multiple different companies is to tell you how wrong this is.
    I can assure you, unless you're applying for a designer/artist position, no HR will ever give a single crap about the design of your resume. Quite infact, a "pretty" looking resume gives out red flags if you don't do the contents properly, because if that's the case it may further emphasizes that you don't have anything to offer in relation to the job so you had to "compensate" it with pretty designs. And as Heather mentioned, your employment, career and skills summary in a paragraph or two on the header is about the single most important thing you can put on your summary, bar none. No HR will ever read everything everytime when we have dozens or hundreds of resumes on our desk or email. We look at the header and short list it. And we read the whole thing LATER.
    Also, yes, quantify, summarize and describe the results of your experiences and achievements. Be confident, and list EVERYTHING that you deem appropriate to put on a resume. Have designed a website for your gaming community? write that down, been a reddit moderator with 100k+ members? write that down. It matters. A lot of people seems to think non-professional experiences don't matter for job applications. They are WRONG. I don't know you, the HR people don't know you, these small bits of achivements goes a long way of letting us know you more. And be confident, no company will ever hire someone who does not believe in themselves.

For example, how are we supposed to make it customizable but also use your template and then avoid charts and tables when that's basically what a resume is. Awesome! So glad you got it. You can remove most of the sections to make it a one page resume. You for sure need a summary, a work experience section, and education section and a technical skills section. That should fit on one page. How much experience do you have?

    awesome video! Just a question about the title in the resume. What if you're making a career switch and applying for jobs that you don't have direct experience in but do have transerrable skills. for example, if I'm appyling for a project manager position but have never held that title, is it still okay to put Project Manager as my title in the resume when applying?

    • @ProfessorHeatherAustin
      @ProfessorHeatherAustin  Год назад

      Hi there! When including your career record on your resume, focus on highlighting your relevant training and qualifications from the cabin crew training school you recently completed. Mention any certifications or licenses you are in the process of obtaining. Additionally, showcase any previous work experience or transferable skills that are relevant to the cabin crew role, such as customer service, communication, problem-solving, or teamwork skills.
      Tailor your resume to the specific job you are applying for and emphasize the skills and qualifications that align with the requirements of the cabin crew position.
      If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

    Hello I am new to your channel I'm reaching out because I'm in the process of transitioning from a career in medicine, where I've been a Physician Assistant for over two decades. My work experience has been primarily in healthcare, and I'm now looking to pivot into a different field.
    I've recently tried applying for case manager positions, but unfortunately, I haven't had much luck in securing employment in this new direction. I would greatly appreciate any information, advice, or guidance you could offer to help me with this career transition.❤😊 Thank you

    • @ProfessorHeatherAustin
      @ProfessorHeatherAustin  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hello and welcome to my channel! Transitioning from a long-standing career can indeed be challenging, but it's absolutely possible. With your background as a Physician Assistant, you have a wealth of skills that can be valuable in many fields, including case management. It's all about positioning these skills in the right way. I recommend starting by tailoring your resume to highlight transferable skills from healthcare to case management. Consider skills like patient coordination, communication, and problem-solving, which are crucial in both fields. Also, my toolkit has resources and templates that might be beneficial for someone in your situation. It's designed to guide job seekers through career changes. Remember, networking is invaluable. Connect with professionals in the field you're aiming for, and gather insights about what they're looking for in candidates. Stay persistent and positive! Best wishes on your career transition! ❤😊

    Where would the pt work and freelance work go in the resume? I had one independent contracting job that I fell back on during moves and layoffs. It's unrelated to my primary profession, and often times I feel if I include it, it throws off my chances, but if I don't, it can get thrown off during an interview. Please let me know what your thoughts are.

    • @ProfessorHeatherAustin
      @ProfessorHeatherAustin  Год назад +1

      Great question! Whether to include your part-time or freelance work in your resume will depend on how relevant it is to the position you're applying for. If the work is directly related, include it under the "Work Experience" section. If it's not directly related, include it under "Additional Experience" or a similar section. Be sure to present the information in a way that highlights your relevant experience and qualifications for the job. Hope this helps!
