    There were two stats that Grealish topped, as Souness quite rightly pointed out he was by far the most fouled but he was also creating more chances than anybody else, which suggests he was doing something with the ball. It also suggests that Souness was using the stats to support an opinion he held rather than forming an opinion from the stats.

    • @thaboseane502
      @thaboseane502 2 года назад +15

      But that was in an Aston Villa team that kept giving him the ball, everything went through him. His ball touches to chance created is high compared to other more efficient players. And thats why at City he is struggling, hes not getting countless chances with the ball to then try 4 key passes with 1 working and then he registers an assist.

      I disagree.
      Things have got a bit mixed up because Souness has been pressured into this response. What he meant was he wasn't great becuase the end product doesn't match the production. Yeah it might look good that he takes on someone but if you're world class its not just making the assists it's also finishing as well. Take a look at Peter Beardsley for example. He could play on the left or right as an AM, second striker and even lone striker. He could do it all and as a world class player which Souness was pointing out you should be able to do at least one of those roles that's on a regular basis. I think anyone thats going to be sold for a 100m+ should be able to more than just assist.
      Liverpool played some nice sweet triangles and could move the ball past you at times with ease. Swansea were good at it for a while way back which is why Liverpool went for Rodgers because that was their identity (theyv'e never replicated it either), this passing the ball left and right until you overload one side or hit a chipball over the top is boring as hell and it's pretty much what city and every man and his dog are doing these days but city and the big teams are better at it because they have got good players which they should be able to do but it's not better football. I'd watch old football from the mid ninties anyday over this. Even before.

    This was always going to be the case with Grealish. He moved from a club where he was adored on and off the pitch, he was Villas talisman who pulled the strings all over the pitch. He then joined a team where he couldn’t do any of that because the style of football is calculated and dependent upon doing your specific job, at the right time and not deviating from this. That’s a huge difference for a player. I think he saw the big money and coasting to trophies and snatched at it, and who wouldn’t? If he’s happy to warm the bench and make cameo appearances for that then good for him. But his talents will begin to dwindle even more.

Tbh it looks like it’s effected Jack’s confidence so rather than him take a chance on a quick pass that may not be accurate he’s preferring instead to keep possession….

Joe Cole, Michael Owen and Graeme Souness were all elite players yet are probably the three most deluded and worst pundits in England.
