They are both right. Grealish is too predictable and takes too many touches. He slows the game down a bit too much. When you watch Doku he does the same thing but rapidly. Which makes it unpredictable and he seems to be more successful at getting the ball in. To be fair though to Grealish for some reason teams double up on jack and make his job more difficult.

@@michaelohara49He was right about Pogba and turns out even worse than what Graeme told us about him. I don't think Graeme has nothing personal against Grealish and it doesn't even sound like that in any way. He is right too about Grealish in that he has become very predictable on how he is going to play the ball & defenders or how he is going to dribble. Predictable is OK, Robben was very predictable, everyone knows what he's going to do, even the slight variations too. Yet, hardly anyone could stop him from scoring goals or assisting. Jack too as mentioned has become predictable and because he isn't as quick nor decisive, he can easily be stopped and is being stopped more lately. While many will blame Grealish for this its the modern problem in football where a player is bought for doing one thing at his previous club and then made to play in a completely different way at the new one and fairly often it doesn’t work out.
While Pep’s greatness is undeniable I get the strong impression that players are not able/allowed to fully express themselves in his teams. Even the players that have excelled under him are probably just carrying out his instructions expertly.
Grealish was given freedom at Villa and while his trophy cabinet was bare he was arguably a better, more exciting and more affective player.
Players of course have to take responsibility for their own performances but there’s also the factor of their manager making them play a certain way which may not be to the player’s best attributes. Its no coincidence that quite a few players have fallen out with Pep.

Theres a clip knocking about on youtube with Henry about Pep - he said Peps system at Barcelona was very very rigid and you was instructed to STAY in your position on the pitch for two thirds of the pitch, only when you got into the final third was you given creative freedom to do what you wanted and if you didnt do this pep would just take you off.

Sir Alex had very very high standards and was ruthless but many of his ex players speak about him with such reverence and as a father figure. I don’t hear the same at all with Pep. At the same time however if he keeps winning trophies that is what he’ll primarily be remembered for. For many he’s already the greatest coach of all time and he’s probably years and years away from retirement.

Villa was, because of their lack of quality, they couldn't dominate the game and have more of the ball so, they play counter attacking football to maximise the potential of their players. Grealish thrived bcoz he played as a 10, free role, doesn't have to run, defend, press as much as the other players. Also, there wasn't as much pressure on the team to win anything massive, not as many games, his price tag wasn't £100 million yet. So, all he had to do was wait for his teammates to win the ball back, get it to him and he could run at the opponents in a favorable situation aka counter attack. Not taking anything away from his talents and achievements. At City, he ain't that special, he has to work hard, has to press, track back, be at his position and wait etc. He is just another cog in the City machine and that is what we're seeing, a manager who values teamwork than iindividual brilliance, hard work, discipline and wins.

Jack is not even that kind of player to dribble past 2, I'm not sure which Grealish he's watching. Grealish's problem is he holds the ball, dribbles side to side then passes it. He's rarely ever going past a defender. His fans claim that's how pep wants him to play but I didn't know holding wingers were a thing.

    • @sean_43
      @sean_43 10 месяцев назад

I don't think that he wants Grealish to play that way. Grealish can't play the Doku way. He hasn't got the pace to go outside his full back and has no left foot either. When he was at Villa, and I know it's a different level, mostly in the championship, he actually played a more central role at number 10. He was free to roam from there but was mainly playing in the hole between midfeld and the strikers plus he was villa's best ball carrier so was given license to dictate. Problem at City is that Foden and Silva are far better on the ball from central positions so he will only play on the wing.

minimising touches isn't what Pep signed Grealish for. he signed him so mid-way through second halfs he can bring him on, and simply be a cog in the possession machine that is Man City (more often than not, when City are already winning). slow the game down, keep the ball, lots of touches, pass it sideways, win a few free-kicks. in terms of England it's not exactly great prep being utilised like that, but that's what he's been signed for.

I watch players like this and feel like they like having the ball a bit too much. You have to play for the team and keep it moving fast, it isn't about you. Jack Grealish is finished at CITY if he doesn't get his finger out and get back to playing good attacking football. If ur not going to score then u need to be assisting team mates. GREALISH was forgiven a lot of indiscretions in his time at Villa that another player would have been booted to touch for. I believe he's let his standards slip drastically this season which is why he's sat on the Bench more and more. I defo believe Jack was or is happy with his lot now. He got the title he craved and he got that UCL medal he wanted so badly.
I said Man City would win the UCL within 2 years of his signing for them and it happened. He played a big art in it too so I just think Graeme is a bit harsh with his assessment of the lad.
I'm a Villa fan btw and I am glad we sold him bcos it was always about him. Everybody said that we were a one player club, and if he was a free agent I would not take him back simply bcos of how he treated the clubs fans by not telling us he wanted to go. We were happy for him to go if he wanted but he never said it and I say he owed us that at the very least. The way it was done was disgusting.
I was happy to take CItys 100Mil too btw. Jack was worth that money at the time and did he play a big part in Man City winning that treble with the UCL as the cherry on the icing?? Yes he did so Graeme needs to maybe take it easy.
I still say Grealish will be off by the end of this season. If they can recoup some of the money they'll sell him.
I get where Graeme is coming at it from but it's not the 1970's or 80's now mate. U need to let that go.
I agree with him about this new kid putting the pressure on Grealish. If somebody can get Grealish for 50mil they'll jump at it. I think Grealish has won the trophies he wanted to win and now he's dropped off.
I know for a fact he does not enjoy being told he cannot keep the ball at his feet. I know it. I would say he resents Pep for taking that out of his game.

  • @georgeflores2410

I’m a city fan, and I have to agree with this. I hate seeing him get the ball because all he does is go down the line and then eventually cut inside if he doesn’t lose it. There is so many times that he has a cross on early and doesn’t see it. Instead he take forever trying to take on one defender and then cut inside just to take a finesse shot that is either gonna miss the net or get blocked. I get that he helps us get fouls, but why is that even valuable to us when we don’t have a big team, we rarely score off the free kicks he concedes. I always thought we overpaid for him, is he a good player? Yes! Of course, I won’t say he isn’t, he helped us win a treble. But when you see Doku come in and do what he does, you have to question grealish. Doku does exactly what grealish does but actually with more intensity and is way way faster then him

He offers nothing to city, Pep knows this he’s playing him for the sake of it because he bought him. Other City players have been carrying jack for seasons. Soon has city start losing in a game jack off then city look more dangerous and make a come back. Villa jack was different, He’s never adapted to peps football and I believe a lot of he's smiles are fake, Deep down he’s not really enjoying he’s football at city.

I completely agree with Souness 100%. Grealish slows everything down.

Simon, one correction : Grealish played 50 games in all competitions last season. The number 28 you mentioned is the number of games he played in the premier league alone.

I get his point, but its a team game, if everyone refused to be on the bench then where would we be, in house fighting would be constant

Hes bang on, he gets the ball, legs it about abit then either flops on the floor or no end product.

The expression "flatters to deceive" is tailor made for individuals such as Grealish. Living off those fleeting and all too rare moments where what he does actually leads to anything.

Dwelling on the ball and number of touches are two different things. Modern football is missing those pure footballers who could run and past players, the dribblers and is all the more poorer for it. George Best, John Barnes, Ginola, those are the players that get you on the edge of your seat.
