Thanks for putting this video out, is it absolutely necessary to but the car in Brake maint. mode . I'm going to do a brake pad replacement as well Thanks Ron
Hey man, came across your channel and absolutely love it. I always try my best to do the work myself on all my cars. I fell in love with the f type but am concerned with the lack of diy videos to fix issues! Hope you read this comment. Would really like to ask you some questions if you have some time!
Conner, great channel. I’ve been enjoying your videos. I wanted to ask, how have the pads been? Any pros and cons that you can share after putting some miles on them? I need new pads and have been looking into Porterfield. After doing some research it looks like the Porterfield R4-1 brake pads might be more suitable though. Brake dust from the OEM pads is horrible. I need to clean the wheels daily. Im looking for lower dust, but I’m signed up for a few HPDE events this summer so performance is also important with preferably low or lower noise to keep the car enjoyable when weekend cruising. Any help from you or other Jag enthusiasts would be greatly appreciated.
Hey thanks for the comment, the pads were great. I ran them for about a year. They had less initial bite but the total brake ability seemed pretty similar. The brake dust was significantly less, so that’s good. I think these are a great substitute for ya!
Great diy. Went very smoothly once I found a 9mm hex. Lol. Thanks for the info. Now can someone tell me how to take the park brake out of maintenance mode!?
Thank you for your DYI, I had a quick question after finishing with brake job with the brake system did you have to do something with removing the maintenance mode in the cabin?
Shit man, I'm sending this video to my mechanical shop so they can replace my brake pads and rotors for cheap (instead of dealer price). Thank you for showing me the brake maintenance mode!!!
Thanks for the videos.. have a question pertaining to the rear calipers and Porterfield pads.. I've cleaned, disassembled, painted, and in the process of reassembly. The question has to do with rear pads and anti rattle clips for the rear. When you replaced your pads, did you use the clips from the OEM pads? I can't tell and no explanation other than fitting Porterfield pads. With new pads on, their is some play, and I want to ensure I reassembled correctly before driving. If anyone has knowledge or has replaced, please fill me in. Thanks
Great DIY ! How much longer do you think the r4 will last than the oem pads ? I just ordered some from R1 concept pads and rotors have you heard anything about those ?
Length of time is kinda tricky, because allot of it depends on how they are driven. I would imagine they are pretty comparable to OEM. I personally don’t know too much about R1, what made you go with them?
Conner 2 questions: Could you explain the reversing of the Brake Maint System? You're say just reverse what you did to set it. So do i do the exact same thing again, because if I reverse it, it does't make sense, Also on the rear caliper, I didn't see where you had to push the piston back in to make the new pads fit. Is that piston hydraulic where you can just push it straight back or is it the twist and turn type?? If so which direction are your turning, Thanks Great Video!!
The brake maintenance mode retracts the rear piston for you, you just have to push it straight in. You do the same sequence you did to put the car in maintenance mode. Sometimes it takes a couple attempts
Hey man this is a bit off this topic but i bought a 2016 F-Type R convertible and noticed the interior panels were super sticky. I tried alcohol like on another video and it took the interior paint off around my AC vent. Every panel painted grey is super sticky. Did you have this issue?
@@skrrtgarage3922 yeah I realized that once I thought about it a little more, i bought those pads. would i need new brake sensors or can you reuse the ones already there?
A question I get asked often on my F Type is why doesn't it have drilled discs? Most high performance cars have these to assist on cooling so strange on the R they are not drilled. Any ideas on this? Thanks.
That’s a great question, I know that the SVR model or any f type with carbon ceramic brakes has drilled rotors for heat dissipation. My guess is that that jaguar knew 99% of their customers wouldn’t track their cars, and having slotted/drilled rotors only makes a difference when lapping on a track. One benefit of non drilled rotors is that our pads will last longer! Haha drilled and slotted rotors kill off pads quicker
@@skrrtgarage3922 Found the answer at this link below. Drilled discs these days are purely decorative and don't improve performance since they stopped using "gassy" pads. No "real" race cars use drilled discs. ruclips.net/video/78wbht355R8/видео.html
Stress cracks develop on drilled steel rotors leading to premature rotor failure. Engineering Explained has a great video on the subject. They look great but are actually inferior to solid rotors.
The "red ones" on the f type are always 380mm at the front and 376mm at the rear? (regardless of v6 or v8) I search to buy new brake pads and i don't want to buy the wrong ones. Tx mate.
FYI: OEM use TRW pads, which are terrible quality and sold extremely cheap on Amazon. The Jag OEM 4-wheel pack, including sensors, is $2100, before labor. A basic 4 wheel dealer brake job (pads and rotors but no serious cleaning) is $3350 with tax, and the pads will squeal uncontrollably in 500 to 1000 miles, throw off a ton of dust, and grab unevenly. Its a joke that standard Jag maintaince is such a disgusting rip off with rock bottom quality.
This is super helpful bro. My “brake pads worn” light came on just last week; awesome to have a online reference. Appreciate you 💯💪🏽
You've cracked it again Conner, great information as always.
Thanks my man!
I’m in the process on negotiating on one. This will be super helpful in the years to come 👍🏼
Thanks awesome! Let me know which you get!
@@skrrtgarage3922 - ended up getting a 2016 R. Absolutely love it and its time to change the rear brake pads and and oil chnage.
Thanks for putting this video out, is it absolutely necessary to but the car in Brake maint. mode .
I'm going to do a brake pad replacement as well
Thanks Ron
Right on, thanks for the comment!
Did you have to remove the car from the brake maintenance mode after the replacement?
Yea, it’s the same procedure in reverse. The car will prompt you to do so after the job.

Skrrrt Garage some guys recommended them in a Facebook ftype chat . Great price as well . Will see if they feel different
Cool, let me know how you like them
Hey Conner, the torque specs you gave are for RWD models only or AWD as well?
Yes they should be the same because the brake calipers didnt change between the RWD and AWD

Actually you do the same thing except instead of pushing down on the emergency brake button you pull up on it. 2017 Jaguar f type R
Conner: How come you never have your engine cover on? What service manual do you use? Thanks.
I’ve read on Jaguar forums that the engine cover traps in a little extra heat and it lessens the sound of the supercharger whine.. so I took mine off
I use one that I bought from eBay, it’s the dealership ones
You should line it up with a Jaguar f type on stock brake pads and do a brake test comparing the stock pads and the ones you added to your car
That would be a sweet test, now I just need to find another f type r owner 😅

That is a pain to deal with, I read that lemon oil helps but I’ve never used it personally
What made you go with these over Akebono?
the box said 1753 but you are installing the 1750s, does it matter which one you pick?
It could have just been the difference between the front and rear brake pads.

I searched for the serial numbers for the brake pads in the comments, but i didnt find it.
I would have to look it up, but generally the R and S model have the larger brakes.
There are forums online that will have that info
