    Just did the patina process on my own golden brown case. It’s not quite as dark in certain areas, but that wasn’t really my aim. I didn’t like the splotchiness of the patina that came in naturally and just wanted to somewhat even it out more; even if it’s still uneven overall, it still has patina all over rather than on just the edges. Great video, as I used this as my main guide throughout the process.

    I think rubbing alcohol is working better stripping that heavy dye/paint Apple is using on the leather cases without thinning the leather out.
    I used 91% rubbing alcohol on paper towels then topped with Obenauf’s LP. Now the case actually looks Golden Brown instead of orange

      @B C 08 - Thanks for the info and I’m sure that would work. I did the sandpaper because I wanted more control over the process. How’d your’s turn out? Thanks for watching I really appreciate it 🙏🏽😊.

      @@QasimZafar Turned out pretty good, it’s developing patina all over the case and pretty evenly too. It’s more camel tan than orange right now and is steadily darkening with use.
      I thought about sandpaper but the leather seems so thin and I saw the guys on Macrumors were getting good results stripping the dye/paint with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover.
      Worked out pretty good and I rehydrated the leather with Saphir Renovatuer then Obenauf’s LP.
      The texture is more coarse and grippy too just by removing that coating Apple had on it

      @B C 08 - That’s awesome man, any link you can send that I could check out to see how the process goes? Or is it as simple as just evenly applying the alcohol all over? Coconut is a 100% Consumable product.
      So you can use the same thing for cooking, to Skincare, to massage, to use in Sewing Machines, or to condition leather.
      As long as it doesn't have any other materials added in (Flower oils, Almond oil etc).
      If you want the best results, just buy an unscented organic variant, and use for this case.
      I just used the same Coconut Oil that I use to massage my hair twice a week, and my Leather case looks great.

      @@Pachequiux 400 Grit may not be available in physical stores, as it's heavily used by Carpenters and Art Students.
      Instead of buying a bundle pack online, you can go ahead with 600.
      Between 600-320 is optimum for leather work.
      600 is technically better, since the margin of error is reduced. If you need to put more effort into it, then obviously you'll be careful with the process.

Because 1-its not vegetably tanned leather 2-Its coated with a chemical unnatural colour. You can wait all you want for it to patina but it won't happen, except for the sides and where your fingers touch the back.

    The iPhone 12 lineup leather case seem different from past Apple leather cases. It looks like a dyed leather.

      @QasimZafar  2 года назад +1

      @Christian Mendoza - Mostly all leather products are dyed…it’s just a part of the process and how they can achieve these different colors. Hope this helps and thanks for watching I really appreciate it 🙏🏽😊.

      @@QasimZafar thanks for clearing that, I just wonder why the leather cases of 12s and 13s does not patina good hmm.

    • @QasimZafar
      @QasimZafar  2 года назад

      @Christian Mendoza - That’s because of the coating they put on the leather to protect it. Last year it was too thick of a coating and this year it’s less so the cases this year should age better.

    I think we should wait until it gets naturally patina, the end result will be the same if you will keep using it, there is no sense in deliberately reducing the age of the leather. I have old leather case which exactly look and feel the same so why to patina.
    anyways a wonderful video for someone who can't wait.

  • @zeinharis8467

    Please don’t sand down your leather case, just use redwing leather cream, the results is much more natural.

    • @QasimZafar
      @QasimZafar  2 года назад +1

      @Zein Haris - The sanding process is just to break down the protective coat so that the leather can patina faster and much more evenly. Thanks for watching I really appreciate it 🙏🏽😊.

    • @zeinharis8467

      @@QasimZafar I believe the apple leather case doesn’t have protective coatings, it’s just oils from the tannery because apple doesn’t advertise them as waterproof. I have a lot of leather boots collections mainly from Redwing heritage and I never sanded down them, I just wear them and let them wears off naturally.

    • @QasimZafar
      @QasimZafar  2 года назад

      @Zein Haris - They definitely have a thick protective coat, that’s why I used it so much yet I wouldn’t get much patina last year. The coating this year was definitely more reduced.

    • @cxssetteman182
      @cxssetteman182 Год назад +2

      You must have used a very coarse grit. The lesser the number, the harsher and more abrasive the Sandpaper is.
      600-320 are the Optimum Grits for Leather work.
      If that isn't the case, the your case probably just counterfeit
