Those evil pinch harmonics coupled to Ian’s screams in Disturbing the Priest are yet to be matched! Love this album, its mix is part of its unique charm. Still curious to hear the new upcoming mix!
This is one of the greatest and most underrated albums of all time IMO! Tony's playing is purely evil and Ian's screams are insane , it's in my top 5 Sabbath albums. The tour was also incredible!!!
I've always preferred the deeper tracks of Sabbath which is why I have always liked this album. Imo it was the last "evil" type of Sabbath record. I'm more of a 70's Sabbath fan but Born Again was so unique in its own way it always stood out to me. Every Sabbath album has it's own sound. My favorites have been Vol-4 and Sabotage for decades. People who think the band's best output are songs like Paranoid and Iron Man that the radio has overplayed to no end are really missing out. In the last 20 years Sabbath have finally got their just due but for the longest time even a lot of those great records made with Ozzy (besides Paranoid) flew under the radar. It's like if the mainstream only played the same 3 songs off Zeppelin 2 and ignored the rest of their discography, that's what basically happened with Sabbath and it's criminal.
Black Sabbath's 'Born Again' was the 1st big stadium show I had ever seen. For a kid deeply into rock and metal in the early 1980's, it blew my fucking mind. When that little demon baby came out, with the glowing eyes clawing at the crowd! I can still remember feeling my shirt moving from the sound of Geezer's bass. Incredible memory and thanks for the release of this vid.
@@TheTapesArchive In the years since, I've looked and never found it, but I believe it was during the opening/1st couple songs (Stonehenge/Disturbing the Priest). I do remember 2 hooded priests bathed in fog came out right after and opened the center stone henge monolith to reveal a cross of spotlights that blasted the audience (as you can see in most videos), but being a 14yo kid and the camera restrictions back then, pre-vhs(?), etc. A friend still has the tour book but you can find those online. I so wish I could help! fwiw, Quiet Riot opened and it was Rudy Sarzo's birthday and they hit him in the face with a pie during the set. This was at University of Chicago (UIC Pavillion), 1983. I will tell Huckle you like his most intimate moment. THANK YOU for your content. It takes me back and puts a smile on my face. Keep it up!!
I was fortunate to see Black Sabbath back then. It was one of a kind show, and was one of the best shows I've ever seen. It competes with Judas Priest when I saw them during the DOF tour, and it also competes with another Black Sabbath tour, and then another Black Sabbath tour, lol. Yes, I've been to over 100 concerts, but, relatively speaking, there's a short list of the best.
The played inside of a molasses vat thrown in the bottom of a swamp, recorded on a Fisher Price microphone run thru a Marshall stack with a slashed cone and a half broken Sears distortion pedal with sketchy wires while consumption of literal mountains of Peruvian marching powder was under way is the sound that a lot of people didnt like about this lp. This however is EXACTLY the reason I love it so dearly. Gillan screaming and screeching his unhinged whirlpool of deliciously tongue in cheeky evil lyrics is the other. You dont even really have to be a Sabbath or Purple fan to love Born Again. Sheer transcendant brilliance.
I think I need to listen to it again. Back when I did the interview I didn't really care for that album. I was a Sabbath Bloody Sabbath kinda guy at that point
I think Born Again was a great album but I am biased, Ian Gillan is one of my favorite singers. Tony says he didn't understand why Ozzy released the Speak of the devil album because he'd had his own songs. Ozzy released it because he was under contract and didn't want to release what would become the Ozzy/Randy tribute album. Ozzy said it was too early at that time and didn't want to exploit Randy basically as a commodity. RIP Randy... Rock on Master Tony.
Born Again is a fantastic record. I remember reading the reviews and they were so bad. The one I read the person was saying he loved Vol 4, but later people told me it's a great record and it really is. Just love it. Always felt the production was not really what it could have been, but still is great.
Born Again is a classic. Saw Black Sabbath with Ian and Bev during this tour. One of the greatest shows I have ever seen still and Tony was having superb night.
What a blast from the past that was. Took me straight back to where I was at in my life. I bought the album as I had all Sabbath records. To hear him talk of the next record with Ian was interesting in as much as we know what happened to Ian in 1984. And he's still at it today . . .
I remember the day Born Again came out. i was in the 12th grade. I think it cane out in 83, because we saw them in early 84 at long beach arena from excellent riser seats about 10 rows back from the stage. On Iommi’s side I was let diwn when they did not perform TRASHED, which was the first song on the album, if I recall. They had a Stonehenge stage set up that was cool, even if it was a little bit cheesy. With Dio in 82 at the Forum, they were one of THE loudest bands i had seen (a record they hold to this day.. they were in the top 3 loudest bands I have seen). With Ian Gillian they were not quite as loud and they seemed to have a grungier sound. Trashy, in a sense, which I figured to be their new sound with this lineup. Apparently I liked that lineup better than the average Sabbath historian, as i noticed lots of criticism over the years since that tour. Why they didnt perform “Trashed” is beyond me. Again, on Iommi’s side, right in front of him. And again, they were louder than hell. They were quite good, too. Dio died 5 months later. Was so glad we got to see them again before he died.
I saw sabbath at the Long Beach arena w/ Ian Gillian 198? I was blown away by the set of pipes on his lungs I could go on and on about the greatest bands I saw at the same venue ( price less ) long live Heavy Metal!!!!

The guitar solo on The Fallen a Born Again outtake has got to be one of Tony's best totally raw fast extreme piercing sonic madness. Innovator! It must have been a total trip back in the early 80s to find out that the former vocalist of Deep Purple and former drummer of The Move/ELO were going to be on a Black Sabbath record!!!
Ozzy's management thought his career was Sabbath, but the bubble gum Sabbath, Iron Man, Paranoid ect, no Spiral Architect or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath... it's sad watching Ozzy concerts, it's was the exact same show/setlist for 30 years. Watch him in 1983 or 2013 and you get the same songs in almost the same order. I was wondering if Tony ever said anything about Randy. Very little it seems.
ESTE DISCO ES MUY MUY BUENO. CON UNA MEJOR PORDUCCION HABRIA SIDO PERFECTO. LASTIMA QUE FUE SABOTEADO COMO TANTAS OTRAS COSAS BUENAS QUE HIZO SABBATH. GRAN BANDA
@@TheTapesArchive I'd heard the master tapes were lost making a new edition difficult, then were recently rediscovered. All this album ever needed was a good remastering. Though I do like the rawness of it, almost sounds like a demo tape.
of course Iommi mentions Dio was working on his solo album while he was in sabbath, that is false because Dio on started his solo album after he left sabbath, warner gave Dio a record contract with the success of heaven and hell but he was not going to use it while the band was active, Warner themselves even forgot they gave Dio a record contract. but Holy Diver and Don't talk to strangers were intended for Sabbath's next studio album with Dio. Dio having wrote these himself.
I thought that was off too. I'm guessing Warner Brother's PR team gave Tony some talking points on Dio. And as with most things, the truth prob lies somewhere in the middle. BTW I have an unreleased Dio interview from 1985 coming out next. He speaks on it as well.
I saw Fastway, and Quiet Riot open for Sabbath on this tour… back then news didn’t come quick, so I was disappointed that Bill Ward was replaced by Bev Bevan. I wasn’t impressed. Too much screaming by Gillian, the guitar was muddled. I missed the earlier Dio years and last saw Sabbath in ‘78 in Philly… I am glad I saw Fastway and Quiet Riot.
I liked this album quite a bit, especially the title track which I think is one of the best songs they have ever done. The production ecording of the album turned me off and I was hoping one day it would get remixed. I also thought the album cover was pretty bad, but you cannot judge an album by the cover. I also think the Heaven and Hell cover was a bit silly but it is my favorite Sabbath album!
Not a bad album really, not anywhere close to to the original Ozzy Sabbath or Dio era, but way better than anything after Born Again the Born Again album.
Iommi's thought process around what Deep Purple song to cover is so broken. Do the most known song? NO. You do Highway Star. It's the one of the most metal songs they do and way more appreciated by DP fans than Smoke on the Water.
I think his main concern was which one could he play, i watched the encore where they do the Purple stuff at the Montreal gig (here on uTube), and he does not play it right, and the lead does not even start on the same note or have any phrasing or melodies from the original. I stopped it half way through it was such a mess. I was disappointed but have learned since then that none of these guys can play other peoples stuff. That's not the kind of Guitar Players they are, they have been jamming and writing their whole lives, not sitting in a bed room learning Randy and Yngwie. Any covers they learned (Buddy Holly, the Beatles, Elvis) were not even close to what they ended up doing. The only one from that era I have seen do a cover note for note is Alex Lifeson playing a Zeppelin Song for a charity event, he NAILED it. Look up Andy Kim and Alex Lifeson. you should be able to find it of you are interested. And his Lerxst Amp creates a sound just like the song as well. That also surprised me.
@@TheTapesArchive Just listened to the Dio interview. A swirling vortex into another dimension opened upon hearing his great singer choices. This is a must-listen interview!
This interview made me cringe and I understand why musicians get agitated by them . The interviewer clearly hadn’t done his research properly, asking how the tour was going when they weren’t currently on tour , and asking nonsense like why are you playing Smoke on the Water ? Heaven forbid.
Is it true that there are no rock musicians that can place their right palm on the KJV and say these words once only-> I refuse to attend satanic ceremonies where they stab it with their steely knives but they just can’t kill the beast.👹 ??? Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord ✝️shall be saved. PRAISE JESUS!✝️❤️
These are the years that Iommi was having his interviews done by a friend that have similat tone to his voice. As he was often too coked up and never care less about fame and exposure as most musicians care so much and crave s much! Nowadays how many legendary egomaniacs are interviewed by teens from their mom basement suites studio,, Not saying this is not Iommi but between 1983-1987 more than often for the little interviews he did many was his friends speaking. As there is no "live"interview, the artist always knows the questions ahead of the interviews.
I have never heard this, any info to substantiate what you are saying? Not saying you are wrong just never heard this. BTW I sent this to Iommi's manager and he approved it, so this one is def him.
@@TheTapesArchive Hi, Please understand I am not doubting your video here. I just meant that during the era of 1983-1986-7ish this happened a lot. You can read it in the Black Sabbath book from Mick Wall. He is a goofy but he is respected and accepted by the business and the musicians in general. He wrote Dio las book also if I'm right.

They got him drunk and high flying. Ian laughs about it now.
It must have been a total trip back in the early 80s to find out that the former vocalist of Deep Purple and former drummer of The Move/ELO were going to be on a Black Sabbath record!!!
That guy smoke on the water every kid can play it!
Too bad they didn't end up doing a second album with Ian. I would have totally preferred to hear that over the 'Perfect Strangers' album with DP.
My favorite sabbath album so heavy and evil sounding Gillian really goes for it too . Just bad mixing got the import much better
Not my fav Sabbath album but up there. Gillian kills it. Lets hope for a remixed version soon.
ESTE DISCO ES MUY MUY BUENO. CON UNA MEJOR PORDUCCION HABRIA SIDO PERFECTO. LASTIMA QUE FUE SABOTEADO COMO TANTAS OTRAS COSAS BUENAS QUE HIZO SABBATH. GRAN BANDA
¡Acordado! Escuché en alguna parte que pueden remezclar el álbum. ¡Gracias por ser un suscriptor! 🤘🍻
This album is so unfairly maligned. I'd like to hear that 2nd Sabbath album with Ian Gillan.
ME TOO!! Or have a reissue and have Ian do some bonus tracks.
@@TheTapesArchive with the Sabbath guys you kinda have to read in-between the lines at times, and I look forward to the Dio one!
Yeah that ain't true. WB did "offer" Dio a solo deal. But I'm not way was he "working on his solo album" during The Mob Rules Tour lol
@@TheTapesArchive can't wait to hear that!
@@Dehumanizer3000 So true! After Dio, we have Bruce Dickinson from 83. @earofnewt has so many good interviews.
If I was Tony I’d have hung up. This guy’s questions are remedial at best.
Are you talking to me? 😅 Seriously tho..come on man it was the 80’s no internet. You didn’t have the same access to info you have today.
@@TheTapesArchive okay. Fair enough hehe
love born again
El albun mas pop de black sabbath y me encanta.
They sound like Hell’s House band in this record.
They really do. Love that imagery.
Born again rules
Agreed! Thank you for being a subscriber! You are doing your part to help this channel grow. 🍻🍻🤘
Iommi liking Flashdance is great. Wish he had given new wave a chance too.
I never knew Iommi used Mesa Boogies.
The production
ecording of the album turned me off and I was hoping one day it would get remixed.
Born Again album have a lot's of best tracks that should be played during there concerts. Too sad it never happened.
They played it live.
That album has some good stuff on like Zero the Hero 😊
Great Sabbath Album.
11:53 he said: 300 watt head.
good ears!
300 watt Meso Boogie Coliseums. Combine all that with his godly riffs, no wonder it feels like your chest is caving in when you hear it.
Def Leppard did not strike it rich in just a few years. They have paid their dues. They did not hit it big until the 3rd album
Is the intro guy the same dude that does Mr. Nigjtmare?!?
Haha no..It's me..That dude sounds like a pro. I do it because I can't afford to hire a pro. 🤣🤘🍻
bring your earplugs. bam
I loved that too!
Exactly
Smoke on the Water, Sunshine of your Love, Whole Lotta Love and Iron Man everybody knows them !
he brought his boat & it went. LOL
Not horrible, but certainly at the bottom of the Sabbath heap!
the songs on Born Again are great...not so much for the production..it's high end-y and tint-y .
Tony likes Flashdance? Wait...what?
lol...I thought the same thing. This week we will be putting out a Dio interview. Wait until who he thinks is great singer. lol
@@TheTapesArchive Just listened to the Dio interview. A swirling vortex into another dimension opened upon hearing his great singer choices. This is a must-listen interview!
@@EricSands777 glad you lliked it!
I know, right?
This interview made me cringe and I understand why musicians get agitated by them . The interviewer clearly hadn’t done his research properly, asking how the tour was going when they weren’t currently on tour , and asking nonsense like why are you playing Smoke on the Water ? Heaven forbid.
Their last great album
Is it true that there are no rock musicians that can place their right palm on the KJV and say these words once only-> I refuse to attend satanic ceremonies where they stab it with their steely knives but they just can’t kill the beast.👹
???
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord ✝️shall be saved.
PRAISE JESUS!✝️❤️
🤨
@@Void-ez2it post a video of yourself voicing these words once only in a calm coherent manner-> I refuse to be full of demons.
These are the years that Iommi was having his interviews done by a friend that have similat tone to his voice.
As he was often too coked up and never care less about fame and exposure as most musicians care so much and crave s much!
Nowadays how many legendary egomaniacs are interviewed by teens from their mom basement suites studio,,
Not saying this is not Iommi but between 1983-1987 more than often for the little interviews he did many was his friends speaking.
As there is no "live"interview, the artist always knows the questions ahead of the interviews.
I have never heard this, any info to substantiate what you are saying? Not saying you are wrong just never heard this.
BTW I sent this to Iommi's manager and he approved it, so this one is def him.
@@TheTapesArchive Hi,
Please understand I am not doubting your video here.
I just meant that during the era of 1983-1986-7ish this happened a lot.
You can read it in the Black Sabbath book from Mick Wall.
He is a goofy but he is respected and accepted by the business and the musicians in general.
He wrote Dio las book also if I'm right.
@@TheTapesArchive Just because Tony's manager approved it, doesn't mean it was definitely him. I noticed something was off with his voice right from the beginning.
@@marcrogers1051 I think it sounds strange to you because I used this AI software to sweeten the sound. It manipulates the frequency etc. I have to disagree with you on Tony's manager. He's a good dude and very protective of Tony. He probably sent it to him as well.
@@stevedamien638 All good brother...In some of my videos, I pointed out "facts" Mick Wall got wrong. (I get stuff wrong too.) I'm not shizzing on Wall either. With any history, it's tough to be 100% accurate 100% of the time. I appreciate you bringing this up. By no means am I saying you got anything wrong either. 🤘🍻
Aftrr all that i'm watchin' a bloody cassette going round ! . . . Yeah right , do me a favour

Doesn't sound like Tony at all. 🤷
Oh it's Tony. 🤘🤘
you have to understand phones use audio for speaking that is so compressed, ever heard music over the phone and why it sounds awful? it has no depth
@@Dehumanizer3000 Yep! This!..Plus the cassette tape is over 40 years old which can mess with the pitch. I tried to EQ the best I could.
???
pretty sure it's him.
The band hasn't started the tour but they're half way through it. Drug f@#ked anyone?
I love your channel and your inspiring videos. use a service such as "Promo SM".
