To those complaining that the interviewer was too rough on Tony, the show is called HARD TALK. He's pressing for answers that many of us would like to hear but would be far too polite to ask. It's his job. And Tony knows it, that's why he's being so polite and answering honestly. It's just the way this show seems to go. Very enjoyable interview overall. This is spot on. HARD TALK is a long running BBC News channel series of interviews with major political and cultural figures, which has the specific brief of pushing to the boundaries of conversation. I've seen the HARD TALK interview with Duff McKagan, the Guns 'n' Roses bass player, on RUclips, and the comments are along exactly the same lines as on this video. Too many people showing utmost deference to their favourite rock god, but no respect to the interviewer or the program format. Loving Black Sabbath since 1970 and reflecting on your thoughts regarding the lady that killed herself and Paranoid was playing. My thought; when we’re down, we listen to music we love as it’s a familiar friend.Music is my life and brings such joy ; is there a possibility that the lady had it playing because she loved it and wanted that to be her joy before she left the world and not the reason she chose to leave. Thank you for your work 🙏🏻🖤Stani
Too wimpy to be a bully. The interviewer is vegan feminist psychologist who is afraid of the wilderness. Alas, nowadays a large segment of the human population fit that description. The earth is swarming with pitiable fools, reptilian entities.

It's called Hard Talk, not "Stupid Talk". The interviewer's attitude was hostile and his questions were idiotic. He actually suggested that a record made somebody commit suicide!
I'm in the digit deficient guitar players club too, i lost the tip of my ring finger in an accident when i was a kid. it is a serious hindrance to playing guitar, difficult but not impossible & i'm too stubborn to let a silly thing like a missing fingertip stop me. I'd love to know where Tony gets his tips from, i could be doing with one. I really hope Tony beats that awful Cancer, all the lads in Sabbath are gods to me. The best band to ever grace this earth.
trevor phillips, As far as I know Iommi never stole songs or riffs from other artists like Page has done. No doubt he was influenced by those blues players he heard, but the guy should get much more credit for his creative ability and he sure changed rock music big time. He is such a down to earth ordinary kind of guy, he does not seem like some of the far less talented artists who have egos the size of hot air balloons. Hope he rocks on for a long time yet.
My understanding is he now uses professionally crafted prosthetic fingertips (check with your health care plan), but originally and for the first famous years he made his own using leather he sewed himself.
I have hundreds of albums at home from afro jazz, psychadelic to pop music anything you may name it. But Tony is my favorite musician and he always will be.
When I was about five, I shared an attic with an older brother, where we slept. He’d play the Paranoid album when it came out, and fall asleep. As I lye in bed, waiting to fall asleep, the music, particularly Electric Funeral, would completely scare the shit out of me. When the record was over, the needle would just stay in that last groove, skipping, because it was a really cheap player. I vividly remember getting up and putting the needle arm back on its resting position, because my bro was sound asleep. These guys are the best.

I think it's OK to try to be probing or whatever, but he's kind of an idiot.
That is the type of interview that is always featured on HardTalk (hence the name). Tony would have known there would be some tough questions. Anyone who goes on HardTalk comes under a bit of pressure.
I think Tony was on top for all the years. Just listen to the riffs from all those albums. Not a bad album at all. He was on the top from the beginning all the way through. All the lineups and everything in between. Not a bad riff. Tony, you remain my inspiration for living. Been through a lot of bad times with mental health issues and drinking. Your riffs and songs have saved me. I love you, man! Keep making music if you are well enough. Love you, Tony
And wow this interviewer is an asshole. Really an asshole. I know it's called Hard Talk but this guy was just an idiot
Tony Rocks. What a World-Class person !
Interviewer is a bully
marko makkonen wow, this is a bully in England...
Too wimpy to be a bully. The interviewer is vegan feminist psychologist who is afraid of the wilderness. Alas, nowadays a large segment of the human population fit that description. The earth is swarming with pitiable fools, reptilian entities.
Tony is an amazing gentlemen and icon ! I love him
The remnants of that leather jacket "from the 60's" that Toni has left that he has used for his fingertips i bet would bring a small fortune ..
It would bring a large fortune. Imagine how intrinsic it has been to the band.
To some this may seem like a badgering interview, but the questions were good ones and the answers were even better and full of honesty. God bless you Tony, your music has brought great joy in a dark world. You and the other members of Sabbath have shed light on the darkness. We cannot heal the pain until we've felt the pain. Thank you, and I wish you continued good health.
Iommi created Heavy Metal and the greatest, most influential band in history. He's responsible for everything that happened after. Changed the course of music forever.
Dave Saenz Exactly, totally underrated and influenced every band ever since. Top of the metal family tree.
green manilishi (with the two pronged crown)
Tony's dramatic, economical style harkens back to the Baroque period, in it's powerful emotional simplicity.
GOD Bless Tony. I hope your cancer is cured one day or at the very least goes into full remission.
Tony is a musical genius…if you compare him to the classical greats of history …probably not…however…he created a genre and an electric guitar sound that’s not comparable…this interview also shows his intelligence/ truthfulness and humility…
What an incredibly down to earth bloke Iommi is! BLACK SABBATH \,,/
Im proud of you Tony your Awesome " you've Inspired " my cool - Riffs over the years in my own band " Necrosis Heavy Metal band or as u joke about it when people ask u is " Black Sabbath heavy metal when they ask u in interview say were more of " Heavy - Rockband lol 😃 you tickle me everytime thank you Tony for the laughs & Awesomeness Riffs God bless !!!
As far as any metal musician goes, Tony Iommi truly rules over everybody, you can't imitate the Inventor of Heavy metal and the Metal Riff 🤟🤟🤟
Well said
@@Warlow1980 thank you dude 🤟
@@leonglassglow3854 quite possibly but that's my opinion he is a very humble man indeed
Tony is a lovely down to earth gentleman and a brilliant musician Lee Hambleton from Sheffield
What a terrible interviewer, pressing old stereotypes about negative effects of their music.
What a wast of a interview.
So true.
Kjreilly What?
Yeah, the interviewers a total dickhead. He'd be a complete nobody if it weren't for a band like Sabbath giving him the time of day.
I agree.
I am a big Zeppelin fan. But this man here wrote some of the finest music ever. One of the last songs on black sabbath. Warning. One of the finest songs ever written. Thank you Toni Gezzer Bill and Ozzy.
This interviewer. He totally went off the rails. What did they teach us when I was in journalism school? Don’t lead the subject! What does he do? He leads the subject! Practically through the whole program. Tony Iommi is a gentleman who was once a young man who did things. Just because he’s a rock legend doesn’t mean he’s not a grownup. Geez.
agreed.
There's a school? For journalism??🤣
One of my heroes! Such a gentleman. Jimmy Page is a one of the best but it’s tony’s riffs and solos that i always go back to whenever go blank ont my guitar playing. sabbath forever
Really negative interview. I think Tony should've got up and walked out of there. But he's too kind and polite to do that.
There are true legends in Rock n Roll, this man is one of them, the minute we lose a man like this is a moment we have to look at ourselves as a whole!!!
Tony was so gracious and respectful to this guy...I wish I could say the same for the interviewer. the interviewer sure did want to blame something... anything on Tony.
Genuinely nice person. Very grounded and polite. Seen him a few times in the village where he lives walking his dogs.
All Hail.....The HUMBLE MASTER!
Interviewer is super punchable.
Probably got that way from being punched so many times as a child.
This wasn't an interview. It sounded like a police interigation
The program is called hardtalk....its not a melody maker interview!
Lol
@@razoredge6476 The word you failed to spell correctly is " interrogation ".
You can learn from RUclips as well as attacking people...or instead of?
That's right Tony. You've been here forn45 years. Because you make sure your music is real. If it isn't real it wont last. Your music stands the test of time.
I thought this was a good interview, after all it is called Hard Talk. It did make for some very insightful answers.
Tony is a class act and one of the best guitar players ever . A living legend who can still tear the strings up on a axe .
music critics are useless.............I like the colour blue......but some critic is going to tell me how ugly the colour blue is??!!!..........all critics are useless
It's called Hard Talk, not "Stupid Talk". The interviewer's attitude was hostile and his questions were idiotic. He actually suggested that a record made somebody commit suicide!
He asked the questions that were on the minds of the haters of Black Sabbath. Those are hard questions.
skaface32 blew sucks!
Mr. IOMMI the best never get tired of seeing him play best of the best
Ray Ross i couldn't have said it better myself, here's hoping they are all around for a long time to come
My understanding is he now uses professionally crafted prosthetic fingertips (check with your health care plan), but originally and for the first famous years he made his own using leather he sewed himself.
Tony melted a detergent bottle into a little bowl and sanded it down then made a hole in it with soldering iron and glued a certain kind leather on it
I have hundreds of albums at home from afro jazz, psychadelic to pop music anything you may name it. But Tony is my favorite musician and he always will be.
*My idol. Metal till the end.*
Here is a song about how bad war is, with music that shows how it feels and shoves it in your face so you can't ignore it.
"YoU ArE gLoRiFyInG ViOleNcE"
They don't even ask him how good of a lay Lita Ford was. I've heard she was epic. The woman deserves the respect she has earned.
Listen to the last three minutes of "I Want You/She's So Heavy" by the Beatles if you want to hear the birth of Doom Metal.
