    My guess for the silhouette puzzle would be that it warps you to somewhere else so you're completely safe and don't have the chance of being interrupted by enemies

      That's most likely what it's all about. The game already has mechanics in place for how enemies behave after the player character leaves an area. This warp feature would not only keep the character safe, but allow the enemies to re-adjust using that very same mechanic I was talking about. This mechanic would also allow the player to return to the environment after the whole warp puzzle without being utterly murdered by a previously aggro'd monster

      thats very likely and makes alot of sense. my original guess was that it had more to do with lighting and space. do the enemies attack while you examine items in this game? i actually havent played re7 (and dont really plan to.) so i wouldnt know. it may not make a difference but it seems like itd be mostly following the same rules when youre turning a single object around independent to the character in a 3D plane like when you closely examine things. also, if enemies do have ai scripts to follow without your prescence wouldnt it be typical to come out of a puzzle with an enemy right on top you that you just appeared around? itd have to cue up its reaction to noticing you just the same but id have to wager if this particular issue was going on, someone who redos the campaign enough times should have this happen if its indeed an issue at all.

      Another likely explanation is performance. This game released on consoles, and to keep a solid performance while you're doing a puzzle with dynamic shadowing I could see them having prepared a separate, undecorated, area where the only thing the engine has to worry about is the lighting.

    When Jack cuts Lucas' hand off, when does it disappear?
    Is Mia there waiting for you with her chainsaw when you're about to leave through the attic?
    What about at the end when you fight mutated Evie? How big IS she compared to Ethan?
    How detailed are the helicopters that appear throughout the game?
    What about the part when you find the D-Series arm and Evie is just standing there? Is her face still there? Does she go through the wall?
    I have many questions because I love this game a lot and you probably didn't include these because the answers are obvious, but my curiosity gets the best of me lol

      kinda want to see more from the start, like Mia vanishing from the room when you walk away, and the same vanish when you anwser the phone call.
      That the problem with these larger games just always to many question and not enough time.

      ed dy I guess they mean that no matter how high spec a game gets, when you leave its playable boundaries, what you see can be comparable to textures and graphics you'd see back on the N64.

    I imagine it might have something to do with gameplay; to avoid patrolling enemies finding and attacking you during the puzzle?

    I would really really love more horror games, considering you can barely see anything as it is when you're playing them ;w; Especially ones with fixed cameras (Silent Hill, Fatal Frame)

    Definitely should've shown Ethan getting his head cut off.
    I'm surprised that they have a full body model considering most FPS' just leave it at floating hands
    The music made me feel super nostalgic, appreciated that.

    VR players already knew that the title screen took place in the trailer since you're able to look around. When I first booted up the game I spent 20 awe-struck minutes just wondering around the trailer. This game is an amazing experience in VR.

    I wonder if the shadow puzzles have you transported to a different room because you do them in areas where the Baker's roam around. If they have you solving the puzzle in real time then you would risk getting attacked while on task.

      You can't solve these puzzles when there are enemies around.
      I think it's for this very reason.

      @@asra-5180 The warp mechanic also adjust the enemies position to avoid this. And no, I'm not fun at parties :D

      Tyler Comeau is it even possible to do a boundary break on Until Dawn?
      I mean if you want to manipulate the save files and doing all these game breaking things you have to hack the ps4
      It's not as simple like on PC :(

    Man i love how theres a Boundary Break episode for nearly every generation of games (of course not even close to "nearly" but you get the jist). From Super Nintendo to something more modern like this i enjoy all your output Shesez even if i'm not interested in the games themselves.

    I know exactly why they move you below to a separate area. It's likely to prevent AI from interrupting you or interacting with your character while you solve the puzzle.
    The puzzles won't activate if Jack or Marguerite are roaming in the immediate area, or in chase mode. I'm guessing they move you from the area to prevent a roaming AI from possibly interrupting the process as well. I'm not sure what the roaming AI behavior is mind you. that's something worth checking out.

    The illusion of the dens forest is insane. It doesn’t look quite photoreal because the different layers all each sway in one direction, but it does look like it goes way deeper than it really does. When you first start out, it feels like you’re in the middle of a vast rural area.

    You show us what happens to Marguerite when she leaves the dinner table, but not Zoe. Zoe was the one who stapled Ethan's hand back on, then walks off. Would have been cool to see her staple the hand back on from another angle, then see where she goes afterwards.

    My third video of yours while on a small binge and I must say I am loving this immensely. I've always had a slight love for the tech aspect of games, how certain transitions were made and how scale was portrayed using trickery for example, so this is absolutely great and you've earned another sub for being fantastic (and you having a non annoying and actually enjoyable voice doesn't hurt one bit)

    8:50 probably a tripod. The yellow-green circle looks to be the air bubble used to determine whether the tripod is flat

    If I'm not mistaken the warp in the shadow puzzles is because the normal room does not have a event volume in it that triggers when the object is at certain angles, this is significantly more efficient than just keeping all if this is one room.

    I think the reason why the player is teleported to another room for the shadow puzzle is so there is no interference from enemies, or spatter from enemies and gunfire that would interfere with the puzzle.

      Halo Two VISTA, Project Cartographer has a multiplayer server where you fight outside of one of the New Mombasa maps, half the ground and cover is invisible, lol.

      Now I know rendered cutscenes are just flat and 2D in older games but I didn't know that was the case still to this day.

      Cutscenes can be both nowadays.
      There's "pre-rendered" cutscenes, which are basically just videos projected on a flat surface.
      Then there's "in-engine" cutscenes, which use the assets in game and the engine to basically plays the entire scene in 3D space, like the game.
      We've seen both types in Boundary Break already.

    @ 7:20 the "leather casing" around the gear shifter is *not* a modern thing just so u know. It's actually present on most all shifters in a manual transmission car. & that's simply so there's no risk of getting dust & gunk down into the mechanism & gum up the works. I believe this look can be opted when purchasing an automatic trans vehicle w/manufacturer; although that *is* an extra purchase option that isn't normally the case. Great video!!!!

    I actually did notice that the main menu is the trailer from outside the mansion. Since I played the game entirely in VR, the devs actually give you the freedom in VR to look around the entire trailer. It’s almost impossible to pick up on when playing on a TV or monitor but being given 360° vision really helps with identifying where you are

    On the light puzzles, Probably because the logic that Jack runs on means he can attack you if you're doing the puzzle and he's in the main hall, which is possible, you can still do the puzzle if he's on the second floor, so I guess to make sure he doesn't attack and kill Ethan while doing the puzzle they put you in to a seperate room entirely

    At around 8:34 - 8:50 I’m pretty sure the texture at the bottom of the skybox is a tripod, used to take a 360 photograph. The image is then placed directly into the game and because you can only ever see the top half, or less, they never have to worry about painting it out

    The skybox bottom is actually a tripod when taking an HDR. you can tell because the little green circles are actually spirit levels.

    I think that texture at the bottom of the skybox may be a 360-degree camera mount. If they used one of those to get a picture they can use as a texture for a skybox, the mount can sometimes be seen. They probably just threw it in there with the skybox so they didn't have to work through editing it, and thought nobody would see it anyway.

      Yes, and there is a glitch where you can go into the cliffs, there really isn't much back there thought and that's mostly it In Breath of the Wild you don't see

    If you play the game in VR you can look around the title screen area freely, which makes it easy to see you're in the trailer. If I recall its also more detailed than in standard mode.

    I want to add that in the VR version of this game at the main menu screen you can look completely around the trailer from the inside. There is a bathroom behind you and everything is fully rendered even though, yes, somewhat gutted out.

    These story driven games always seem to get rid of models or simply not have much passed what the player sees. It's part of the reason why these story driven games play so much smoother than more open world games. It's good to optimize a frame rate every chance you get though.

    Really makes you wonder how many times the game changed before the final product. Used to do this with gamesharks and action replays on ps2 to learn how games work when I was a kid. Great we can see this on modern games.

    As someone who is taking college classes on game development and I have created some 3D Games, it's pretty cool seeing the games I love do the same smoke and mirror tricks that I've been using to created my projects, plus can be great referance materials when working on future project . Also watching your BioShock video, because that is my favorite game.

    You are wrapped into another room to do the rotating puzzle in order to protect you. During the majority of these types of puzzles you are either being chased by Jack after the garage fight or Margaritte in the smaller house. That’s why you can do them with them running around trying to capture you.
