    I've been painting my own houses for 40+ years and I still appreciate any tips that people will share on RUclips and other places. It's also all about new products constantly coming into the industry. As they say, you're never too old to learn, although some are too old to listen! Thanks to everyone for sharing their own ideas and techniques. I believe that we all improve by checking all these things out!

    As a professional painter, I tape off all my trim with Frog tape for laser sharp lines anyway. Run a semi dry brush along the tape really quick to activate the tape then use a 3/8" mini roller to "cut" in everything. So there literally are zero brush marks. When doing 2 coats its faster than trying to cut in twice. And for a DIYer masking with Frog tape is going to give a much better look.

    • @MAGAMAN
      @MAGAMAN 10 месяцев назад +1

      Using tape on trim just hides the paint that gets under the tape until it is dry. It also wastes a huge amount of time.
      Just cut in and use a rag to wipe off any paint that gets on the trim.

    • @jamiedorsey4167
      @jamiedorsey4167 10 месяцев назад

      @@MAGAMAN Dry brushing Frog Tape helps activate the glue so you get very little paint under the tape. Its also better if you pull the tape off while the paint is fresh anyway, so if there is any paint it'll clean off easy with a damp rag wrapped over a putty knife. If you're doing two coats the time savings is small, especially for the less experienced painter. And for caulked in trim like this taped lines are going to look so much better than any cut in.

    • @witchdoktor69
      @witchdoktor69 7 месяцев назад

      A "professional" doesn't need to waste time or money on tape.

      Do not need tape

    • @jamiedorsey4167
      @jamiedorsey4167 6 месяцев назад

      I feel like I cut a pretty straight line free hand. A well taped line though looks a different level of straight to me, especially on caulked in trim vs trim with a gap between the wall. I'd love to see the free hand lines others say they can make that compare with a taped line.
      Also, I don't really do production work. Maybe that makes a difference in whether taping trim off matters. Even then though, the amount of time it takes to mask off trim is tiny, I've never timed myself but it has to be maybe 30 seconds, certainly not more than a minute, for a double window or door?

      I usually use an 18" roller, and in areas that it or a 9 inch roller won't fit, this process works well. But if you can only fit a brush in that space you will need to pay attention to the way you brush that area. If the brush mark ridges are not accented by the light, you don't see them. The whole point of this video is to show that if you have a brush or paint that doesn't perform well, you can get professional results by doing this technique. I am not 'selling my services' but rather I am helping a DIYer to make their painting better. When I paint, I put enough paint on the brush to cover the surface, but then I "draw it out." However, most DIYers overload their brushes and do not go back over their stroke and "draw it out." BTW, to draw it out is a technique where the brush is scraped clean of paint and the paint on the wall is brushed over and over to eliminate the wet paint ridges. Hope this addresses your comment.

    • @5MinuteHandyman
      @5MinuteHandyman  5 лет назад

      John Conway , You are partially right when you say we are replacing vertical with horizontal brush marks but, what we are doing is we are allowing the light to not accent those brush marks. In every case when you trim around a door frame, window frame, or ceiling, what needs to happen is the peaks and valleys from the brush lines need to be smooth out. The easiest method is to pull them toward the light source, but, if you use a fine bristles try next brush, then the lines will be minimized and you will get a nice uniform painted surface.

      David Phillips Thank you for your comment, some folks don’t want to spend more on conditioners when they are trying to save money by painting on their own.

      David Phillips Yes, you are correct use paint conditioners and synthetic brushes. However, I am trying to reach out to homeowners who do not want to spend more money on paint conditioners and specialty brushes. This is a simple tip which can reduce visible brush marks. Thanks for your comment!

      The general public does not know what
      An additive is. I am trying to help those people who decide they want to paint their room go to Lowe’s or Home Depot buy paint and paint their room. Professionals and folks who have painted a lot might know about additives which are extremely helpful for leveling out pain but to the beginner this is a great tip for them!

    So, still have brush marks? But fooling customer via shadow tricks, nice!🙄

      Haha! When I paint, I put enough paint on the brush to cover the surface, but then I "draw it out." However, most DIYers overload their brushes and do not go back over their stroke and "draw it out." You're not ELIMINATING brush marks, just making them harder to see. Misleading title.

    Jesus Christ died for all of our sins. He died the death we all deserved. He was the perfect one who never sinned once, but he loved us so much he decided to die for us so our sins would be paid for and we can enter the Kingdom of Heaven before God the Father blamelessly. He is the living son of God who wants to know us and have a personal relationship with us. No matter what you have done no matter how far gone you think you are Jesus can and will save you. All you have to do is confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior. Believe that he died on the cross for your sins and had a bodily resurrection 3 days later. We cannot be saved by our works but by faith in Christ alone. Repent and turn to Christ. You will have joy, happiness, love, and peace beyond understanding.

    Why do that when back rolling anyway? Just a waste of time.

      Ralph Bennett one can use a roller to get close to the woodwork, but to get a smooth cut line, a brush is necessary. I have a video that shows a "cutting tool" that has a roller and an innovative edge brush that works quite well. It is titled 'CUTTING A STRAIGHT PAINT EDGE.'

      5 Minute handyman, I was being sarcastic. You might be able to reduce brush marks but unlike your video title you can not eliminate them, it’s impossible, a better title would have been reducing brush marks!
