Oh, I‘m here for the men’s wear refashioning! And everything else, but that especially. I love tailored clothing and menswear often has beautiful fabrics. And the market for second hand/vintage menswear isn’t nearly as fought over as that for women’s wear.

Me too! I bought a pair of lovely large men's suit pants last evening to make something. Not sure what. There's quite a lot of fabric there.

My mother was a teen during ww2. There were few options for pretty cloths. She went through the trunks in the attic and found great fabric. She refashioned them and had beautiful cloths when few had them. Everyone asked her where she got them. I always loved that story. She was such a great seamstress.

I just discovered your channel and subscribed. When I was a very young child back in the 50s, my mother would often redo one garment to make another, mostly clothes for me. My winter coat one year was made from my older brother’s old navy uniform coat. It was beautiful and very warm. Thank you for this wonderful channel.

Love it! We never had much money growing up, imho it's just common sense to make the most of what you do have, so I sewed. Tiny hands don't manage heavy fabrics well, so my parents got me a reconditioned 1960s flatbed Singer for Christmas at 14yo, (she was in her 20s & She's still going strong). My 1st #garmentrenovation season included turning my too short pants into capri & the rest into skinny legs that could fit under leg warmers; Re-cutting & slashing the sweatshirts & tshirts to overlap in different shapes, so they'd no longer be too tight across the bust. Then doing-over my dad's vintage jeans a-la-Bananarama, to make the waistband go around my hips, straightening the legs & rolling them up, then slashing the butt & the knee & making the cut threads all fluffy. He wasn't pleased as his jeans had been pristine before I got them, but it was the 80's. LOL

Lovely to hear your plans! Cannot wait for menswear to us girls! I've been working on using the smallest amount of material to make a dress. Lately I have been finding small amounts of thrifted fabric and working it out has been so so much fun. Today I squeezed a sweetheart style bodice out of the scrap cuts off a near circle skirt. Like a loaves and fishes miracle!

This is exciting Evelyn, wish I lived in Brisbane to come & see the grand finale. We have a similar venture in our little town in Yorkshire called the Recycle yard, she sells all sorts of things that would otherwise have gone to landfill, sadly not garments or dressmaking fabric but lots of leather & fabric offcuts from the furniture making industry. It would be fab to do this in other countries too, to get people thinking about sustainability. I'm especially looking forward to the 1940s mens suit refashion, as I bought a suit a couple of years ago fo the Refashioners challenge & never got around to doing anything with it & my friends I enjoy going to 1940s events.

Wow. Evelyn. I am really looking forward to the unfolding journey of your runway show!
It has actually encouraged me to go and actually, physically, pull out my own refashion project dream that I have been planning for a little while. I purchased a tablecloth and napkins set from the local op shop. It has lots of crazy lovely but over-the-top small triangular embroidered panels. I thought that I want to use the panels to make a 20s inspired dress using the panels overlaid like scales. At least that’s my starting point of design. We will see where it goes.
First I need to detach all the panels....... so. Seam ripper is out....... Evelyn video is on.......project begins. Keep talking Evelyn......❤️

Good morning! I absolutely LOVE your new idea for the videos on renovation. I can't wait to see what you come up with. I am in the process of renovating a table cloth from the 1930-40's into a summer dress. The border from the table cloth will be at the bottom of the dress, on the collar and if there is anything left of the print on the pockets. I can't wait to see how you renovate a man's suit into your own. That I would love to try. I just love renovating and repurpose anything and everything to give it new life. Please continue to have Monday makes on they are very interesting and helpful. Have a great weekend. Anna-Marie P.S. Harry my husband thinks renovating is also great too. especially if he doesn't have to take anything to the dump.

    # 3673 from 1941 is exactly that style, with a sailor blouse, shorts and wrap skirt at knee length. There are other variations, such as Advance #4161 from 1946 . These can be found in Wade Laboissonniere's book, Blueprints of Fashion, 1940's. They offer great inspiration.

Evelyn, I can't wait for this! I can't wait to see the men's suit refashion. I've always seen so many suits in op shops going for a song and wondered how to do this myself. I know it's hot in Brisbane, so the vest would be great, but couldn't you pair it with suit pants made into tailored shorts, or 7/8s wide leg pants with a cuff - they are quite trendy at the moment.
Also, for the 30's beach wear, they loved to wear white pants so you may be able to track them down in an op shop, or an alternative is to make them out of a white sheet, but I think your brief is to refashion existing garments. I seriously can't wait and I'd love to see it but I have something on that night. I'm going to see if I can change the date - it's our party, after all! :)

Local hairdressers and makeup artists volunteer their time and give models the works!
Three judges and the audience vote and select the winners.
The garments are so creative... a prom dress made from multiple plaid flannel shirts with molded record albums forming the bust ... a man’s swim trunks and coverup turned into an adorable sundress with shrug ... a stretchy print top and huge boxy red trench coat turned into leggings with a beautifully fitted and belted jacket top with dramatic tails in the back.
The venue also has light refreshments, AND a few vendors whose wares are all made from reused/ recycled items, AND there is a rack of designer clothes plucked from local Goodwill stores.
Your event sounds fabulous! Thanks for taking us along for the ride!

This is such a great idea! I'm actually refashioning an old denim 90s dress into a 50's inspired dress using up some fabric I had leftover from another project, which I bought at a thrift store. I'll make sure to add #garmentrenovation to my tags!

I hung on till the end of this 20 minute video thinking you would demonstrate on an actual garment, the process of altering 1 garment into a refashioned one. I know how to do it, but many others who are just starting garment renovation would be left clueless.

I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the three garments and seeing the fashion show. As for garment renovation I did a full inventory of my closets yesterday and found two pieces that needed some tender loving care, which I had put off doing. So, I am looking forward to getting started then completing each one. If you had not started Mending Monday's the pieces would still be crying out for help, lol.

Hello Evelyn, in one of your very early thrift haul videos you found a gorgeous blue and white toned dress with deep triangular embroidery around the waist. That dress is screaming resort wear reno! I know I’m harping on with that dress but I just love it and would love to see some Evelyn magic cast on it. This runway project is very exciting and I can’t wait to see it.

Whoops! Memory is slipping - it wasn’t embroiled, the dress had either contrast navy blue appliqué or pieced into the waist. 😂❤️
