Why don't all motorcycles have this?

- The Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 NTX has one feature that all other motorcycles should have! This bike stands out from the competition because Moto Guzzi did something impossible when building this bike! The Stelvio is not as well known as the BMW R1200GS, but it's definitely giving it a run for it's money!

The company was started by three friends, who were in the Italian air force in WWI. One of them, Giovanni Ravelli, was a pilot who was killed in a test flight in 1919. The eagle with it's wings spread is in honor of their good friend who didn't live to see the company they dreamed of starting. They invented the center stand, first company to use a wind tunnel. And their plant is next to Lake Como, one of the most beautiful places in this planet.
I am the owner of a MG Norge. The full name is MotoGuzzi 1200 GT V8 Norge. After 40 years on Japanse sewingmachines i bought this one and its
fantastic. This is what it means to ride a bike.
The Norge is for a trip MotoGuzzi made to Norway.
By the way,i am 63 and ride my bike as much as i can.
Greetings from the Netherlands.
Love your programs.
It's my bike since 2012.
La adoro!
Best Guzzi ever built.
Welcome to Guzzi's World!
From Malaysia.
I ride it from Malaysia to Thailand. 7 week riding. Cover 18k km. No problems with my guzzi.
The Norge is actually named after Norway and an early Moto Guzzi that they test rode from Italy to inside the Artic circle (in Norway) in the late 1920s.
And repeated 2006/7.
The Stelvio after a the pass of the same name in Italy. One of the most famous roads in Europe. (as already said!! sorry!)
Yes, Norge is how norwegians say Norway. And the "e" in the end is to be pronounced, and should sound like the "e" in "echo."
Another fun fact, Aprilia named their big adventurebike "Capo Nord," which is the italian name of Cape North, the nothernmost place in Europe. In Norway, of course 🙂
Owning a Guzzi will ruin you for every other bike. There's just nothing like coming to a stop light and feeling that "guzzi shake". Still miss mine to this day and is the only bike I've ever regretted selling. Just an awesome bike all around and had the exact same motor as this Stelvio. Smooth, torquey, and just a beautiful exhaust note.
When you rev the throttle when you’re stopped, needing to be careful you don’t tip the bike over when it rocks side to side hah
The Stelvio Pass is well known as one of the very best if not the best driving roads in the world.
Norge (Nor-ghe) is what Norwegians call their home country.
But the pronunciation in Italian is "NOR-zhay"
Yeah Is true lengendary Road in Italy alps
Americans think that Europe is a country with capital in Paris. What do you require??
@tabac88 And snobby, uneducated Europeans think that all Americans are ignorant. You do realize that many of your countrymen brought their families to America? Wonder why...
I bought a Guzzi V85TT earlier this year, and it has been an absolute blast. Lookers at every stop, great conversation with people asking what it is, or telling me about the Guzzi they owned back in the 70's. Guzzi's may not be the fastest or the lightest, but they're the brand with the most character and you really know it once you ride one. Love seeing more Guzzi content from my favorite bike channels!
And they are one of the bikes that will always get you home
When a word has "ZZ" in the Italian language is often pronounced like "TS", as in "Pizza" or "Mozzarella" or "Guzzi"...........Great video, love Guzzi's
Buck Spammhammer Lmao!
Guzzi is pronounced "Gut'si" in standard italian (no one speaks standard italian), but in lombard "Goosie". The factory is in Lombardy.
The Stelvio is very capable offroad. I just did the WABDR on my 2013 Stelvio.
Not forgetting, Guzzi motors are all still pushrod ohv engines.
I can do a 2V per cylinder Guzzi valve clearance check in 30 minutes, 45 mins max, and be back on the road riding.
Your words of wisdom today really targeted my current place in life. Thank you. Love your videos. Keep doing what you do.
I had a Moto Guzzi Griso SE 2014, loved it. That bike (all Moto Guzzi) have style and give great riding feelings/feedback.
It's refreshing to have a great channel such as yours with awesome content that I can actually enjoy with my 8 year old watching. Thank you for what you do and keep up the great work.
I am a BMW rider and that was hilarious! Keep up the great videos you guys kick butt
Glad you picked this up from the auction. Was hoping you would! Great bike.
One of the most understated adventure motorcycles ever built. Extremely reliable from the research I did. Was really disappointed when they discontinued that model for the smaller V85. Would love to get my hands one. There’s a dealer in the West Chester area here in PA. Loved the crack at the BMW, don’t forget with deep pockets.
I have a Sport which shares the same engine, only problems i've had in 37k miles is a duff battery and a blown headlamp bulb.
i'm broke as hell, having an old motor, cannot afford a new motorcycle but love watching your vids man. we dont have such badass bikes over here. love the content
There's a bluegrass song from the album "Old and In the Way", called, "I Ain't Broke, But I'm Badly Bent", which would apply to me and my '86 Toyota pickup truck, and the roads in Vermont. :D
I don't think the roads in Vermont are too bad. I just took a ride up to Barre couple weekends ago. I love the maple cream pie at the Wayside.
I can buy most anything I want , and I just retired six months ago. I’m still not happy. Hope you’re life is better
@@MrPotatochips4 the hilux of the 80s were probably the best cars ever produced though. In denmark they are appreciating a lot nowadays
Tons of cool 300s over there
I was insulted the other day when you said us fans need to step it up. I couldn't possibly support you guys more than i am aside from buying every bike you get and that aint happening. Maybe one, one day. But i watch EVERYTHING. I got in trouble by my gf for spending 120 dollars on gear so yea that's as much support as i got
The Stelvio is an awesome bike. I have wanted one of those for many years. I had a MG Norge a few years ago and that started my fascination with the brand. You really have to ride one and attend a few rallies to see the loyal following of the brand. Dealer support is a little hard to find sometimes but I'll have another MG soon. Great video.
Thank you for correctly identifying it as a longitudinal V twin, not a transverse V twin as many people call it currently.
Stelvio is a mountain pass in the Alps in northern Italy. A terrific winding road goes up there full of switch backs. Great for driving your car, your motorcycle or any other kind of vehicle. Great scenery. Alfa Romeo also named their SUV Stelvio. Go out and visit Italy.
I've actually done the Stelvio on a bike, and it's not nearly as "great" to ride as it's reputation, unless you enjoy doing hairpin after hairpin after hairpin. Personally, I got bored after about the 5th identical hairpin.
There are many magnificent biking roads across Europe, and many of them are unnamed. I think the name Stelvio is probably used because its an easy name to remember and most European petrol heads are familiar with it.
But a great road? Not in my opinion.
@@davidcolin6519 it is also a stage in a rally (for cars)back in the fifties and sixties. I forgot the name of the rally.
Some motorcycle riders test their kneepads on that road. So many motorcyclists like to ride that road.
Bycyclists like that road, as it takes a lot of muscle power to ride that road climbing up.
@@davidcolin6519 I thought I'm the only one who doesn't like similar roads with tons of hairpins. Hairpins are fun when lanes are wide enough to have some space to turn quick and safely, and most mountain passes are not like this, they are very narrow, the visibility is limited and you must watch for oncoming traffic very carefully. No pleasure at all. Not sure about Stelvio, though, never been there ))
Stelvio means a pass with a mountain and a national park over in Italy love your channel can't wait for the next one all the way from Aussie🇦🇺😎🖐
The Stelvio Pass - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stelvio_Pass
LOVE these things. And if you haven’t already, Google “Stelvio Pass”.
Better still go there. It’s awesome on a bike
zork It’s on my list...
Went to stelvio pass three times. First on vfr and then two times on sportster. Love that place. I only have to do 400km to reach it!
“I know regular size women ride BMW’s also...” 🤣🤣🤣
Loved it, also!
Stelvio riding is child's play, only 48 hairpins, surely, you jest!
Try the Hana Road, Maui, Hawaii; The Road to Hana is only 52 miles but the average speed 25 mph. is also called the "Divorce Highway". It as 617 turns & 59 bridges, many only 1 lane, travels along the edge of many sheer cliffs, starts in Kahului and ends in Hana, is the longest rain forest highway in the USA, is a registered historic area.
Halfway through, my wife said: "pull over"! Which, I did! Where, she pulled off her helmet and threw-up!
You can always spot the BMW Riders, because, you will find them on the Stelvio road!
The Grisso is still one of the best looking roadsters in my opinion.
I rode my motto Norge across Canada in 4 days sometime riding 14 hours a day. Absolutely love this machine. Cool video, see a lot of Stelvios in buy and sell adds for about 3500 canadian dollars.
There is a company in germany called radical Guzzi, they make custom bikes with the very same motor, however give it a new frame, big bore kit, some updates etc. What they are doing with those bikes is amazing, you can get a cafe racer with that very same engine with 135 hp and 140 torque(European units). If i could choose one i would buy one of them.
Guzzi are really interesting in their approach to build a motorcycle... they last along time even when abused ... this one ☝️ a great off road and tour bike with a gas tank that seems to never run out of gas ... my friend has one and laughs at us Harley riders on long trips for fuel
I was going to buy one of these until I discovered that the service centers are far from me. But fell in love with the bike. About 6 years ago, this bike was the surprise among the testers of adventure bikes.
Hey buddy love your videos! Watched you for several years! Thanks for entertaining me lol! God bless you my friend! Love your words of wisdom !you bring me joy! Thanks again and keep on smiling!
I have a 2015 Stelvio NTX (in the much faster blue color). I've owned a lot of bikes, and this is far and away my favorite. Character for miles!
Really want one of these..was getting one in may till this blite..bike is still for sale if it's their just before xmas I'm treating myself..it might be cheaper to...great bikes to ride and so much cheaper than a gs.god bless hope your all safe
Love this bike! You posted this on my birthday! If I had of saw it I might have bought it I got a vstrom 1000 instead. Glad to see your reviewing some adventure bikes now
So my wife owns two Guzzis. If owning a BMW is for petite women , what kind of woman does that make her?
Riding an '09 Stelvio 1200 4V ensures she'll never pull up to a stop light and see another bike like her's. When on her '00 Quota 1100ES she can be pretty sure she'll never run across another one anywhere on the road as there were only a couple hundred ever imported to North America.
Great bike, fun to ride, easy to work on but parts availability is good but can take a while to get from the mother land.
Gotta love a woman who rides an adventure bike! 👎to all the Harley riding "girls".
Try Harper's Moto Guzzi for parts.
Loved the review. I have a couple of friends with Stelvios. I have an Audace and a V7lll Special in the garage.
I've got a 2020v7 and a v85tt love Motoguzzi bikes.
Indian model 841 pre-dates the Guzzi by a few years for transverse v-twin with shaft drive. Was built for the military with the focus of easy maintenance.
So excited for the give away. When I was looking at my dream bike I found the Honda CB1000R and the Indian FTR 1200. After watching your video on the FTR and probably 50 more videos I finally decided on the FTR. I love you guys and all your videos. Keep em coming. You can see God's hand in this and it's awesome! All the way from Colorado, Cheers!
Do it. Got the 2022 FTR Carbon a year ago. Absolutely live it
This bike is named after the Stelvio Pass which runs which connects Italy and Switzerland in the Alps. Possibly the most beautiful road in the world.
god bless the clan, moto guzzi's are the best bikes in the world and if you can get to mandello del lario next sept you will be in for the party of your lives , sell more guzzi's my friend
Love all your videos mate, but i'll be sticking with my Suzuki's.
I love my Guzzis! Must do...I have 4!
The Stelvio is a famous mountain pass (road), and I've ridden it. Switzerland to Italy in the Alps.
the Norge means Norway in Norse. Guzzi had the GT dubbed "Norge" model back in 1928 and 1930 to celebrate the trip to the Polar Circle of Giuseppe Guzzi.
As a Breva 1100 owner I am happy Guzzi is getting recognized by our friends overseas!
Thanks Shaun for sharing this video of such an individual bike. My son has a Moto Guzzi V7 Stone and he loves it. I had, possibly the first in Wales, a Moto Guzzi V50 (500cc) and thought it was great. Regards, Bob M. South Wales
As always: your independent point of view and with a lot of common sense. I congratulate you. Viva Moto Guzzi !
Norge is the Norwegian name for Norway. It was also the name of an airship built in Italy for Italian explorer Umberto Nobile and which Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen later flew making it the first aircraft to fly over the North Pole. Moto Guzzi launched the Norge by having the European press ride a fleet of them to the North Cape in Norway, which is the furthest north you can ride in Europe. If you think you can ride, try the Stelvio pass one day... and don't trust BMW's weight specs.
Edit: I own a 1400 California and I have yet to encounter another one.
No matter what experience level you ride, If you haven't owned at least one Moto Guzzi, you're still a beginner. Norge, BTW is Italian for Norway and the bike was named to commemorate one of the first long distance rides in Europe where a Moto Guzzi was ridden from Italy all the way to Norway. That Stelvio you are riding is truly an amazing machine.
I like how you always read quotes from the Bible in all your videos. Keeping the Lord at the center of your life is so important for us all. God bless!
I find it quite annoying!
@@superduper9357 dudes just trying to live his life, doing what his religion tells him to do. Everyone’s got their thing, just skip them
Named after the stelvio pass in italy. Unbelievable road, Look it up.
Also the Honda you mentioned is the cx500 which has that similar style engine set up as well.
Honda copied the layout but 80° Vee with shaft drive, not 90° like MG. Also GL500 and GL650 Silver Wing (not scooter). Water-cooled and engine mounted higher, not as well balanced as the Guzzi.
being a chaplain and Eucharistic minister, love the quotes and diversified videos, being 65 ,had a 370 suzuki trailbike, interested in adventure, touring, live in Cloverdale CA,drove trac trlr, doubles, almost bought 800 BMW 2007,2 much maintenance, looking for better op cost
Yeah Sean, look into Stelvio Pass in Italy. Gorgeous mountain pass road in Italy.
5’3” and one of my bikes is a BMW; proud of it. i have actually ridden Stelvio passo, GroBglockner and a several others. ZZ sounds like tz, like in pizza.
Lol, GroBglockner. Yeah, I know the written German double s does kinda look like a B. ;)
You're content is awesome along with bike and beards channel enjoy watching and I love all the fun and give aways you do maybe il win 1 day
I really like the ability to go off road when there is a trail to be discovered, thanks for sharing.
Moto Guzzi really and seriously needs a dealership or two, you might consider it. They are truly special motorcycles for people who ride and care and know about motorcycles. They aren’t bling and they aren’t the fastest etc. They are, however, amazingly good. I have have been riding motorcycles for 50 (argh) years and was for most of that time always in possession of at least one BMW. But over the last 7-10 years, somehow they just lost me. It actually makes me sad! But, salvation arrived from Mandelo de Lario. I am really sorry I didn’t get into Guzzi’s sooner than 3 years ago. They are great machines and the Guzzi riders, Guzzitsi, are a pretty cool down to earth bunch as well. I don’t have or miss having a BMW anymore. Moto Guzzi needs to grow some dealers, but the parts availability is pretty good even as it is. BTW, Norge is how you spell Norway in Norwegian.
To gain publicity for Moto Guzzi in 1928 - Moto Guzzi went on a 4,000-mile (6,400 km) journey from Mandello del Lario to North cape on the northern tip of mainland Norway. Despite the very poor condition of European roads at that time, Giuseppe Guzzi reached the Arctic Circle in four weeks. "Norge" is the native name of Norway.
go to a Moto Guzzi rally, yes, there is such a thing, and get enlightened, or freaked out, one or the other.
that seating position used to be called sit up and beg...
I've always wanted bring my 'hondaguzzi' cx650 and see what they would do 😆
The Passo Stelvio is a hellish mountain pass near lake garda, which I rode 2 years ago with my little thumper F650Gs and I totally understand the name for this bike. Big wide bars just seem like a must when riding tight twisties, both my dad Diavel V2 and brother VFR 800 VTEC were struggling to keep up with my little 50 horses. An extra 600cc cylinder defintly would be a godsendt at the time.
Just a quick "that guy" comment. The engine is mounted laterally. The crankshaft is positioned longitudinally. Carry on.
Stelvio is named after a mountain road. The stelvio with an serious amount of hairpins. It’s in Europe and a must do for motorcyclists
Excellent review. Norge was also the name of an old refrigerator, back in the day.
Also enjoy Bikes/Beards channel, but not a huge fan of the Facebook group. Ride safe man!
Ditto on the bikes/beards facebook..I dont think it's what Sean had in mind when he started it...
I recall that in the old TV ads the jingle went: "Hear the solid sound of quality, knock on any Norge." I think it did, anyway.
There are a lot less issues with the newer models Sean. The V85TT is a lot of fun.
I should have got one of these instead of my Vstrom 1000. Single swingarm, shaft drive, 8.5 gallon tank and the valve clearance check takes 15 min per side.
Stelvio Pass is one of the great passes near Mandello and thus the name. Norge is named after NORWAY Norge....one of the owners in the early days wanted to show how good the bikes are ...road up into Norway...hence Norge. Maybe a bit of research. I have taken my Stelvio in Enduro events! Sure it is heavy...but very capable of forestry/dual track. Great in Moab type dual track.
Transverse v-twin, thats the correct explanation for what type of engine that is. Never the less its a nice bike. Honda also did transverse v-twin motors in the honda cx 500 and the honda silver wing only difference was the cooling system. Motto Guzzi is an oil air cooled motor and honda water cooled. I think now I missed the words of wisdom.
I own a BMW and I'm not a regular or petite size women. I'm a 6 ft 4 in 205 lb man. And my BMW happens to weigh 703 lb.
italian here. you pronunce Stelvio correctly :D it's a tall mountain pass in north Alps
You're thinking about the Honda CX 500 & the CX 650 also a mini Goldwing called the Silverwing which was a 650. All those had the sideways V twins like the Moto Guzzi and they were also shaft drive.
speaking of, you should review a griso. Some of the coolest streetbikes ever made.
Stelvio is a mountain pass in Italy which the Moto Guzzi adventure bike is named after. Perhaps Sean could do some research on a bike he’s selling at some point.
I love Moto Guzzis! A great vlog
I do love your positivity and sense of fun 😇 Norge is pronounced more like Nore-jay, but hey, points for the effort friend 😅
Try looking up the lambretta gp 250 from the 1950`s the designer left lambretta and went onto moto guzzi
I love the Guzzi, but to fully represent Italy in this equation you have to get a Ducati Multistrada to show off. I'm kinda biased towards Ducati, but I promise I love all my quirky European brands and have a pretty close relationship with a few lol.
Nice bike but weight is on higher side. 500 pounds is ok , but 660 pounds is indeed on heavy side . It helps to be on lighter side when you go off-road for some country fun outside tarmac.
I owned a Moto Guzzi Le Mans MK 1, incredible handling & stability, you literally felt like you were glued to the road. The electrics were abysmal, the copper wiring was of such poor quality it actually rusted. It looks like they've come along way.
I have a LeMans mk1. This bike has over 140k miles and on a recent tear down all the parts were within specifications. Electrical system was good but I did have to replace some electrical components as the wires were fraying due to age and vibration. Not sure what your issues were but having owned many vintage guzzies I never had your issues.
@@frankbutaric3565 The bike was built in 1978, according to the electrician, Guzzi at this time used copper wiring that had very little copper in it & high content of ferrous metal, hence the rust. The weather were I live didn't help, it rained a lot. Copper is malleable, this wiring wasn't it, started to snap when you tried to bend the wires. The bike was sold to a restorer, it's now in a museum in London.
I love guzzies although I have only rode a vary old one, but I loved it.peace ✌
Stelvio is a pass Road in the Dolomites Mountains, look it up Passo dello stelvio. Its awesome
DANG! I can't believe you have 2,460 videos on this channel LOL. I'm coming up on 1,000 vids on my channel and gaining momentum, I'm already planning on buying a bike with the money that I will eventually get, I'm thinking in about a year or so when my channel really blows up and I start making a bit more than just enough to pay the bills HA! So I've been 'dream shopping' for my next bike, I've had a lot of bikes in the past but don't have one right now. I actually started out wanting the Road King and put a cool Road King wallpaper on my desktop. Then I changed my mind and decided I wanted a Kawasaki 1000sx touring edition. That was on my desktop too. I actually took down that photo and now I'm dead set on a Harley Dyna LOL. Good thing I don't have the money or I'd have three bikes in my garage by now! Kind of have my eye on older Dyna Fat Bobs, so many cool ones out there. Once I'm a big RUclips star I'll probably have a warehouse with about a dozen bikes and a bunch of really fast cars and trucks LOL
Really unusual that young guy gets the Guzzi. Bit of a shock. Been riding them for years. Guzxibike names have some history usually. Made me laugh
I just bought one after my 1400 gsx was destroyed by fire and I'm in love with this bike.
So this thing makes 30hp less and weighs 160lb more than a 1250gs with a similar size engine? Terrific.
Nice review, but I am more impressed of the landscape. You live in a beautiful place.
It's a transverse V twin, not a 90degree V twin, noticed the same thing on another guzzi vid. That would refer to the angle of the cylinders in relation to eachother. 90deg V twins are sometimes referred to as L twins for this reason.
The Guzzi that you really want is the Dr John Daytona 1000.
It's just fantastic in every way, and definitely not a clone sports bike.
Just rode a Buell XB12R 870 miles this weekend so now I want a more comfortable boutique bike much like this one 😂
It is transverse mounted. Terminology that works in 4 wheelers is reversed in case of bikes.
"way down under" Excellent - fnar fnar
At last... A Viz reader😂😂
Just wow! I ride an '06 Guzzi Breva 1200 with 110,000 miles down and she is still my girl 😂
Cool bike, do they make it in men’s?
Similar to my Honda xl1000 Varadero. Great bikes, but I don't know if you get them in USA.
Love the videos, keep up the good work 👍
Another shaft drive horizontally opposed V-twin was the Lilac from Marusho in Japan (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marusho). . I remember seeing one of these sometime in the mid 60s.
My goal one day is to buy that Cadillac, end of story, thanks for the vids.
You should look into the 2020 CSC RX4! It would be super cool to see you do a review on that bike!
I like a windscreen that I look through, rather than over the screen.
That's called car.
I miss my old 1978 1000 G5.... :( My "issue" was the alternator, I never could get it to work.
TexasScout Noneofyourbusiness - I have a 1979 LeMans 2 and a 750 Monza. I converted both alternators from Bosch to Saprisa. So much better!
Thanks enjoyed review problem where I live very very few dealer no dealer support
I'd love to give moto guzzi a try but where i live there is virtually no place for parts or service...
You must come once in life to ride on stelvio Road! It's a temple for all European riders. You will climb up to more than 2700mt over sea level trough 48 180 degrees bends over about 20 km. Absolutely amazing
