  • I finally got my hands on my favorite nano rasbora!!
    One of the best fish tank ideas is to have a big school of nano fish and I think the lambchop rasbora (espei rasbora) is the best nano fish for the job!!
    These are tight schooling fish that look amazing in a large group, cruising across the fish tank.
    Dwarf rasboras are excellect little nano fish for a small fish tank or, even better, as a large school in a big aquarium.
    If you like this video, please remember to give it a big thumbs up!!

    I had 40 of these in a 60 gallon once. Their schooling was amazing. They were not just going back and forth. They were doing patterns of swirls that are just as spectacular as the ocean schooling fish you see on the Nature channel. However, a few months in they suddenly just stopped schooling. They just all decided that things are chill and there's no need to hang out together. Would I get them again? Probably. Even though it lasted only a few months, the schooling was still incredible.

    I am crazy about Espie Rasboras. I have a school around the size of your school, and like you I would like to double it. To me they are at the top of the nano fish pyramid with Rummy Nose Tetra for directional schoolers. I love good size schools of nano fish because you can se that the school has personality, where you can’t see that with just a few fish.

    I never cared for harlequin Rasbora myself, though when I saw the espei in a LFS, I fell in love with them. I have them in my main tank with Cardinals.

    • @TheFishNerd
      @TheFishNerd  5 лет назад

      Yeah, I think they’re far and away a prettier, more interesting fish than the harlequins.

    • @AquariumThoughts
      @AquariumThoughts 5 лет назад

      That's what I think myself. It's odd considering they are very similar fish.

      @@AquariumThoughtsHarlequins are a bit less active and more mellow while the espies are always sparring plus espies have a very bright hot orange colour which the harlequins lack.

    Your right about them being hard to get ahold of big numbers at once. I’ve been buying them as I see them in my local pet stores trying to build a large school for my 6ft long 90 gallon. So far I have 25 and 7 Pygmy corys. The corys school with them back and forth across the tank more often than not which I didn’t expect. Cool video. Thanks for sharing

    Thank you for answering my other question, really appreciate, a lot of them don't bother. Another question , what is the adult size of the espeis, Rachael O'leary says 1.2 inches & another video says 2 to 2.5 inches, your answer please. Thnks

    • @TheFishNerd
      @TheFishNerd  3 года назад +1

      Sure thing! Rachel is correct. 1.2 inches is a BIG Espei. Anything that gets close to 2 inches is a different fish. :)
