Hello Jerry, I hear lots of arguments for how to "zero" pistol sights (POA=POI vs 6 o'clock hold). Any chance you could make a video explaining your choice for your style of shooting?
I had the privilege of shooting with Jerry at a USPSA match. He and his family are truly some of the nicest people around. It was a joy to be able to watch him work. Keep it up!
This is exactly what the shooting sports should be like. The fact that you have a world class shooter so willing to give you help and advice speaks volumes about the community we all belong to. Nice work!
Lmao. “You got Matt written all over this stuff”. “ so I can get the losses out of the way”. And the way after your magazine was empty, you would look at Mr Jerry like getting approval from your father. Good stuff. Shows a lot of respect
Very interesting tip from Jerry on focusing on the dot at 7:50. I had always heard from self defense instructors like Aaron Cowan to always target focus, and that's what I've always done. If I'm understanding Jerry correctly, it makes sense in a competition context to focus on the dot, and trust what it and your trigger control is telling you so you don't spend extra time confirming your hits.
Erik, I hope that you get some practice in, Idk when you are going up against Matt, I can't add anything to what Jarry told you because I don't qualify enough to pick up his brass. Jerry's father-in-law founded Clark Custom Guns and that was back in the old school days of iron sights, Jim was one of the best Bullseye shooters at the nationals and knew all the best pistol guys. Jerry comes from a legacy of hard-working people in the pistol industry, you got some once in a lifetime instruction one on one with him. -Dave
RANGE SAFETY TIPS....Great video, enjoy your content on both channels. It speaks volumes that your willing to try something new and foreign to you for all to see. The shooting sports generally have a crawl, walk, run learning curve and just like your barndominiums should be built on a solid foundation. But hey, if your competing with Matt, I get why your starting at a jog. As retired FLE and USDOJ Certified firearms instructor and weapons expert responsible for training and qualifying agents/officers for well over a decade a few tips on range safety protocol. We don’t load the weapon and walk down range with it at our side. Your weapon should remain in your holster at all times until you are on the intended firing line. Once on the firing line you’re free to load when ready or as instructed. On the firing line you can perform dry fire drills, work on your draw stroke or sight alignment/picture. If you’ve fired several rounds, your weapon remains hot, and you have a question either holster or bring it in to a ready gun position (2 hands on the weapon, hands pulled back to center of your chest close to your body) finger off the trigger. From this position you can ask questions. You should keep your body squared to the target at all times and do not step off the line or turn your body to ask a question. We can hear you even if your not looking at us. Anytime you are shooting on a firing line with another shooter as in the dueling tree drill/competition, you must remain on the firing line until the drill is over. If you have a problem, a malfunction or are out of ammo do not step off the line until everyone is done firing and the line has been deemed safe. I know it can be confusing and there are a lot of facets to upholding proper range safety that you may not be familiar with. But, once you know them and can hold yourself and others you shoot with accountable everyone can remain safe. Keep practicing, keep up the great content, and good luck against Matt. Saludos de DFW.
I love this, shows that being beyond excellent at one discipline doesn't directly translate over other disciplines although it's clear that your experience does help. And your willingness to learn and not act cocky is testament to your character :) Also Jerry is like everyones granddad such a legend.
You had it right at "Matt doesn't know anything..." :) Erik will demolish Matt. Erik: Seriously, muzzle control/ awareness even with an "unloaded" pistol.
Ha! You’re killing it, and Jerry is a great secret weapon. It goes to show, skill is skill and it transfers well between platforms. As a competition pistol shooter and range officer, just one tip - keep your muzzle pointed downrange. Nothing you did was unsafe, but dropping your muzzle straight down between strings like that would get you DQ’d at a USPSA match, or at the very least make an RO kind of twitchy. Definitely upping the ante on the content - keep it up!
Nice improvement Erik. Notice, as I mentioned previously, if you let your focus drift off the front sight (in this case the red dor) and you'll miss high. Listen to Mr. Jerry, he knows a thing or two. I have faith you can smoke Matt on the tree. I first met Jerry in Jackson, MS in 1999 when he set some speed records at the NPSC, where I was shooting. Been a fan of his ever since.
Wow what an honor for you to shoot with the legend!! It was very exciting for me to watch this!! Probably will ware this phone out re playing this video making sure I hear everything Jerry is telling you.
I gotta say Erik .. you are pretty darned good .. wonderful job .. but man this is also an illustration of just how good Jerry Miculek really is .. wow! .. this looks like so much freaking fun! You are such a lucky guy to get to be able to do this. This had to be a super ton of fun !!! Congratulations and job very well done Erik !!
I've been learning a lot from your videos about precision shooting/reloading the last couple of weeks. I was really surprised to find out I was actually in one here at ~3:15. Wish I had heard about you a couple of months sooner so I could have said hi.
Jerry's PROBABLY one of the best shooters in the world..? Safe to say he is! Anyway, you've taught me a lot Erik - thank you and please keep making these videos!
Wow, I did not know you were a shooting enthusiast! My wife and I love your barndos! We are hoping to to have our own barndo built in the future. Good luck as you hone your pistol skills... Learning from Mr. Miculek? You'll do just fine!!
So a week ago I was going down the rabbit hole of youtube and stumbled upon your channel, just soaking up random knowledge on reloading. I was running the gimbal behind Jerry and did a double take because I both didn't want to get in the way of your camera and you looked extremely familiar... now it all clicked! It was good to see you at the match, thank you for continuing to put out the content that you do!
Man, you have 'the knack'... I think it's so much about concentration and feeling the trigger pull, not just 'slapping the trigger' as Jerry was saying...damned impressive for a 'beginner' ;-)
So Erik when is the video of you and Jerry shooting your specialty now? Awesome video, Jerry is the man, and such a great taecher! Matt's not gonna have a chance now.
That would be soooo awesome. I just love Jerry .. he is so freaking cool. His daughter is totally awesome too. I would so love to get instruction from either of them, but I would be too star struck probably.
Erik, I’m no shooting coach or expert, but you’re looking like a “natural”. With the tips you got from Jerry M. Looks like Matt is gonna have his hands full.
Second chance bollingpin shoots where along time ago. I had a very good run and came out on top once while shooting against him once then he destroyed me the rest of the day ... good times good memories.
Jerry moves pretty good for an older guy...Living Legend. Much respect for Jerry from this 63yr old gun guy. Erik is learning from the Master, wish I could..lol
I can only imagine how many other phones were turned sideways recording Jerry as he went about his normal pre match, match, and post match routines... I feel sorry for those people who film vertically.
Ok so no way I could shoot like that on that course, I don't even jog to the fridge. Now what was cool was watching you & Jerry, gotta convince my brother to go halves on a tree... Lol
Love to spend a day with both of yall. My pistol skills are horid. I'm a long gun guy, not so great with la pistola. With me, the dualing tree would be difficult because you'd be trying to figure out what I'm actually shooting at.
Good work out there brother! No noodling and you'll take home the trophy!
🍻
Hello Jerry, I hear lots of arguments for how to "zero" pistol sights (POA=POI vs 6 o'clock hold). Any chance you could make a video explaining your choice for your style of shooting?
Thats pretty awesome
Jerry, are you saying Matt is a noodler? LOL
2 of my favorite shooters
That's like getting Albert Einstein to help you with your math homework. Enjoyed the video.
😂😂😂
I had the privilege of shooting with Jerry at a USPSA match. He and his family are truly some of the nicest people around. It was a joy to be able to watch him work. Keep it up!
Lessons from the master, JM. Best shooter in the world today IMHO.
Not an opinion, that's a fact.
Don’t even have to be humble.
JM is the best hands down
Jerrys the best speed and 3 gun shooter and altho hes great at long range hes not the best so best shooter period is debatable
Well if you need a teacher..... get the best........ but Damn Jerry M 👍👍

"Not sure how many I've got left here"
- "You only need 3"
:D
😂
The first time I saw Jerry, I thought it was fake. He is inhumanely fast.
You mean inhumanly. If he was inhumane he'd be kicking puppies...🤪

Target shooting is a little different. Slight sight misalignment has a big impact on the target.

Even 5 minutes worth of instruction from Jerry would be golden.
This is a very different video with Jerry. Makes me admire the man even more. So humble
Erik: "Slow down, Jerry." LMAO
I'm always impressed by what a great guy Jerry is.
Great video Eric! Now you have the basics to be a contender in a new field. Keep up the quest for excellence. It was great seeing you again Jerry.
That's alot to take in, keep practicing. Like Jerry has said before about how to get good, is be the first on the range and the last to leave.
I like it! He saw you needed more hand on the gun and a little body position fix too! You are killing it man!

Needs ipsc certification, after thateverything you use with a trigger is treated like a gun pointing downrange
First class instruction from Jerry. What an honor.

As a big Demo Ranch fan.... Matt's in some serious trouble. I do believe you got him in this

A lesson given by Jerry is the dream of every shooter
Kick that left foot a little more forward and point it directly at the target. Smooth is fast, clear front sight tip. Great job!
Smooth move there brother. Lead with the ace in your pocket. You're going to fare very well against Matt!
That would be soooo awesome. I just love Jerry .. he is so freaking cool. His daughter is totally awesome too. I would so love to get instruction from either of them, but I would be too star struck probably.
So jelly! Jerry is tha man!
