    The difference between the app saying it's fully charged and the light turning green on the charger is: balance.
    Onewheel batteries are made up of a bunch of smaller batteries. Once they reach overall capacity, the app will tell you that it's full. It is full essentially, but the battery will continue on to balance the voltage of all of the different cells. For example, some will be 4.22V, and some will be 4.18V. The charger will work to stabilize all cells at 4.2V for as long as it takes. If you typically allow it to charge until the light is green, it will happen pretty quickly. If you don't and typically pull it once the app says it's full, the imbalance will become greater and greater over time and take a much longer time to balance, when finally allowed.
    Also, over the life of the battery, some cells will do better than others. There will ultimately become "problem cells" after many cycles and this is when performance becomes noticeably reduced as well as longevity concerning each charge.
    All that to say "the difference between the app and the green light is balance times".

    Go Justin! Very useful video. The FM charger is very heavy and takes up a lot of space. Good call out on the openings in the Chi charger. Great pacing with this video! Keep doing what you do!

    *Great comparison, I would pick the ChiBattery version* due to size and price.
    Also, 100% vs light turnin green, the difference is usually to due to cell balancin (on most eboards), once it reaches 100% it takes a little bit longer to balance the cells out. Always best to allow that, at least every now and then.

  • @RCDevotee

    Great breakdown! I have fast chargers for my power scooter and EUC. Aside from being able get to 100% much faster than stock chargers another key feature in some fast chargers is the ability to control the percentage of charge. I rarely leave my batteries at 100% unless I know I am about to go riding. I usually set my fast chargers to 70% and charge up my Dualtron and Nikola and leave them at that storage to slow down battery degradation.

    • @followdon
      @followdon 3 года назад +1

      Good call on the ability to choose charge percentage. I get so many regen warnings for my Onewheel when I charge close to 100 percent.

    • @CinematicSouls
      @CinematicSouls  3 года назад +3

      Thanks so much Robert! And yes! Not charging to 100% makes a huge difference and wish I knew this sooner. CBS actually came out with a new variable charger that I'm hoping to get my hands on. It allows you to switch between different charge speeds and set up alerts for certain charge percentages! Game changer!

    I would be interested to see the quality of the electronics inside of the case. When you buy a surge protector the reason Monster charges so much is 1) their brand which means nothing and 2) they overbuild the heck out of them to make them as safe and "clean" as possible. I don't know who builds either of these but it would be nice to see if the FM version is so heavy and expensive because it is over built - not only because of the Onewheel badge.

      yep the chi might be the winner today-but if it only lasts 3 months-and/or shorts out (cause something got in the open fan port-or whatever) and then it also shorts out your board-causing it to start heating up when charging until one day one of the batteries burst, catching your house on fire, and due the the original shorting out-all the phones in the house got a surge of power-so now none of them work when you need to call 911, and your onewheel is on fire-so you cant go to your neighbors to call for help, now you are in shock and have no idea what to do so you drop to the ground rocking and hugging yourself screaming, MOMMY, MOMMY, by the time they find you there is not much that can be done, the police on the scene talk amongst themselves and decide the humane thing to do is to put you out of your misery, so they shoot you 6 times in the chest and wait for you to bleed out-it takes about 3 minutes. so tell me was the chi worth it now?

      OH also, i believe Future motion makes them in the USA, i assume Chi-makes theirs in Chi-na, and China has currently approx 12 million political prisoners they use as actual-real life slaves.

    I guess I'm just curious if either one hurtds the cells in the battery.
    I saw a fast charger some place and they said it's not recommended to use the fast charger as your daily charger.

    • @CinematicSouls
      @CinematicSouls  3 года назад

      Using any fast charger on a regular basis will definitely degrade your battery even faster. I would use the slow home charger as often as possible and if you want to save your battery even more, charge it only to 80%.

    Great video. Interesting that about the green light, I wonder what extra range is gained from charging to green rather than stopping at 100% on red.
    I think I'll go for the cheaper lighter chi

    • @CinematicSouls
      @CinematicSouls  3 года назад

      Hey Matt, yeah from I understand is that it helps balance out the battery cells so if you have time to wait, wouldn't hurt to let it fully balance but if not its not the worst thing. I actually heard charging your board to 80% max is actually the longest way to preserve the battery health.

    • @user-hk7dw3dh4j

      On the pint the battery will be at 63.4 volts, compared to 62.3. I go 10 miles when it is fully charged and used right after. 1% = to one tenth of a mile. The xr would get a bit more range. I don't know due to not having one. I have the standard battery for the pint. Balanced once a month, 210lbs, and ride 8 to 10 mph. In full captain Morgan, 7.5 miles

    Solid review. Definitely seems like a no brainier.
    And it’s easy to fix those holes in the chi charger when you travel, it’s a ziplock bag. So long as it doesn’t get too warm of course. I would guess they were similar in heat created or you would have mentioned it. Or maybe just didn’t notice.
    But when I can, it looks like the chi charger for me.

    • @CinematicSouls
      @CinematicSouls  3 года назад +1

      Thanks man and wow Ziplock bag... genius. I love it. Definitely going to do that just in case. You know I actually didn't really notice any major heat difference. However I am curious how hot it could get during the summer out in direct sunlight. I'll update this video if it turns out to be something worth mentioning.
