      This! I watch every single game, a big part of the slow start was the team not understanding the new defensive system - Giannis was still dominant and the mid range uptick is just unfair. You play up on him your getting backed down or blown by, you back off and he's going to hit the mid range in your face.

  • @misanthropas

    Ηe had all summer to train, during his Olympic prep, with a Greek trainer specialized in improving underdeveloped aspects of a player's game! The coach told him: "OK, you got a problem with your ability to constantly shoot 3-pointers! That doesn't mean you can't improve on the lately "snubbed" mid-range shot that would give an extra dimension to your game", the results were so stunnng that Giannis employed the man and brought him back to the States with him! The easy part to see is his shooting mechanic changed, not shooting from his stomach as he used to (still does that during free-throws-and misses them- but that's another story)

    I think the long midrange shot suits his jumpshot mechanics. If you slow down his form, you can see that there's a pause on the ball when he rises up. That pause is not good when you are shooting a three because it either causes to lose power on the jumpshot or cause you to compensate and add more power to it. On the midrange, you need more control over power, making that pause to be more beneficial

    A lot of NBA fans I know are dimissing his mid range shooting because "they are all mostly wide open shots" - yes, correct. They are. But why is that? Because he is such a threat to get to the basket, one of the best ways to be in great defensive position is to back off him a bit.
    But the problem now is, if you do that, he'll confidently make the shot right over you. Okay, so then you have to start playing up on him in the high mid range! Okay, but that's what he wants you to do. You do that, and he's just going to blow by you.
    Giannis game is incredible, and the fact he has added the ability to knock down these open long range 2's has literally not only extended his career, it has made him even more unstoppable. He's almost 30 and just added to his game. And when questioned after the game last night, they asked him about his 3 point shot and he admitted it's not there, but to give him a year or two. He's not trying to add everything at once.
    This likely comes from his new shooting coach who doesn't want attention so Giannis keeps refusing to say his name. That shoot coach has fundamentally changed Giannis game. And sure, that shooting coach is likely going to work on his FT's one of these off seasons. This off season the focus, and Giannis said it, was solely on the midrange. It's all he worked on all off season. He has also quickened his routine at the FT line, but it doesn't sound like they worked a lot on FT's. I wouldn't be shocked if those get better as well in a year or two as well. Just matter of what the focus is next off season. Will it be the 3 ball, or will it be the FT line? I am guessing the FT line.
    Crazy to think Giannis is in his prime, already has mvp's and a title to his name, and he STILL is finding ways to get better, and get better in ways that literally will help his career long haul. He said after last night's game that because of the mid range, his body isn't getting beat up as much. Because of that, he didn't even feel like he played a game last night. Like physically it was basically like a practice for him.
    That's insane to say about playing a game in the NBA.
    Giannis is having the best season of his career. The media are going to have to give him his flowers one way or another.

      It's already over. Giannis is unstoppable. He went 10 of 11 last night. Hit like 4 mid-rang shots in a row. Detroit gave up. Giannis did not even need to play in the 4th. If he played in the 4th, he would have had a 35-point triple double.

    • @SteveBart666
      @SteveBart666 Месяц назад +6

      Nope. All these years the hole point was for him to be able to shoot a little better than total crap from anywhere beyond 4ft from the rim. He wasn't able to do it, yet he somehow managed to be the best player in the league. This season he turned into prime KD from any midrange spot while he looks even better when he attacks the rim . That's f.....g crazy! 🙀

    • @pownder
      @pownder Месяц назад

      @kalinwang1 thing is NBA defenders and coaches adapt. Once they realise he now has a mid range, they will adjust again. He just needs a better than average step back three in his bag and he becomes unguardable.

    • @kalinwang1
      @kalinwang1 Месяц назад +6

      @@pownder they can't adjust. Giannis will just drive. The Bucks will get even better open shots. They have Dame and the best 3 point shooters in the league. Now, are they the best or just benefiting from the wall? Doesn't matter. All that matters is that when coaches adjust, they get even more open. For example, Giannis dropped 59 on Detroit last game. This game coaches focused on Giannis, and the team had some wide open shots. It was like practice. Then Giannis hit his mid-rang. There was nothing else that could do but throw in the towel. No answer, but to hope Giannis misses. Which he is not going to anymore.

    This video is spot on man. “Cerebral Giannis” has arrived and quite frankly the league should be terrified. It’s like he has finally realized that the evolution of his game is partly what was holding this team back. His shooting mechanics has always been decent so I always knew that his shot would start to fall at some point but like you mentioned confidence is always key when shooting. This will ultimately extend his career even further as well as extending the tenure of this current Bucks core. Bucks will win the next 2 NBA championships. This Bucks Roster is loaded

    I like the fact that with middleton in the game there is an insane chemistry and scoring becomes really easy. Both for giannis and the bucks in general. The third factor is proven quite crucial for the bucks performance because both giannis and damian have freedom . Also with a 3rd creator, you can get more quality plays within the 48 minutes of the game. This is what the NBA should be terrified of.
