    I am totally guilty of doing the power turn. I am thankful for instruction like this to become a better boater.

      @wake_mann  4 года назад +1

      I think we are all guilty of it until we are told or taught unless we grow up on a professional ski boat and few of us do. I did it with my first boat too. Glad I can help!

    Unless your rider appears injured, or is in imminent danger after falling, there is NEVER a reason to do a "power turn".

  • @jackhaynes8944
    @jackhaynes8944 4 года назад +2

    In my experience a power turn is actually slower a lot of the time than just stopping and turning around since it takes you farther away before closer. It’s also a lot sketchier when surfing so do a power turn

    Thanks for putting advice like this out there to new boaters. Its much needed. Some are to "cool" to follow this advice on our rivers and lakes.

    I was taught the power turn was the correct method for turning, then drop the throttle when the boat hits the wake to cancel the wave...this makes so much more sense. And with all the tubers (us included, frequently) the last thing our lake needs is more rollers. One question about your comment about running near the shoreline.....our lake is relatively narrow proportions and lined with floating boat docks. Wouldn't staying near the centerline minimize the energy affecting the boat docks if they are on both sides? Sounds like I should favor the shore in unbuilt areas then slide back to centerline when things are built up. It also sounds like our tubing needs to be confined to the more open areas of the lake and stay out of the narrower valleys.

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  4 года назад

      Hi Christian, I would agree with the area with many floating boat docks. Staying near a shoreline would mostly apply to a shoreline empty of docks and one that is not a wall (such as a canyon wall) as you want the shoreline to help break up the rollers. The best shorelines for breaking up rollers would be those with lots of foilage or clumps of coarse rock or something similar. Either way, sounds like you have the knowledge to do your part now, good luck.

    Not a power turn at all. Lol
    Its just a turn.
    But yes I agree with your suggestion. Wish more drivers would do this

  • @CoryJustus

    Great information about keeping wakes down, but there is a bigger safety issue in this video. You should return to the fallen skier on the driver’s side of the boat unless the shoreline or traffic require you to turn the other way. The video demonstrates the wrong way to pickup a skier powered or not.

    • @wake_mann
      @wake_mann  4 года назад

      I would agree if you are new to towing a rider. There is no safety problem for an experienced driver and rider who can communicate.

    Is this the case even if there is more than 1 boat on the lake? I thought you would want to get back to the person in the water asap so they don't get run over.

    Do you film at the crack of dawn or mid week? How can you be the only one out there.... I got stuck taking family to cooney last weekend.... too many boaters on a tiny lake. New prop pulls awesome!!! So smooth, yet felt like I could rip a tree out with it!!!
    Use frozen peas( in a bag) for your eye, as soon and bag starts to warm, swap it. Do that for like an hour or 2 a day and it will be gone. Or just roll with a mucked up face and say the masks caused it😀.

      Yes, I ride between 8:30am and noon and this part of the lake is usually not very busy even at peak times. Some of these shots are also during the middle of the week.

I have a jolly roger flag I can fly if there are similar boats. My name is todd hewett and I am on facebook( beach photo with my kids and I) Feel free to add me.

    I definitely disagree with maintaining the same throttle setting while turning to pick up a fallen rider, but on a busy lake it is a safety issue if you don't get back (or at least make it clear you're on your way back) to your rider. What I do is, as soon as the rider falls, cut the throttle and whip the wheel all the way right at the same time. The wake then pushes the back of the boat around about 90 degrees, then I start giving some throttle to continue the turn until I’m pointed back towards the rider. Then get back to the rider at just under plane speed.
