Since I discovered that RUclips also processes low-resolution versions of high-definition videos in very good quality, I combined these two-part 1080p video series, remastered them in one piece 4K, and uploaded them again. I hope it reaches more people this time. If it is a series that you follow while building the same kit, the high resolution version will be more beneficial for you. If you've watched it before, nothing new. Have a great day modelers!
I guess that explains why, when I zoomed in on the cockpit to show my wife the finished 3D decals, everything went out of focus. Stunning model -- improving Tamiya's 1/48 F-14 is no mean feat. Congratulations!
I was an aircraft handler on USS Carl Vinson from 1988-1989. I can't tell you how many times I moved that particular F-14 Tomcat. It was VF-111's "showbird". I was there in Hangar Bay 3... watching when they painted that beautiful aircraft art on both sides. I'd give almost anything to go back to that time and be there once more.
I missed those days, but I was onboard the USS George H. W. Bush and that was the last combat deployment of the EA-6B. VAQ-134 kept those bird spotless and their showbird was beautiful. Seems they were there on your shop as well.
These build videos are unique in that a lot of the others, they do not annotate the brush needle size, psi and mixture ratios. As someone starting out new with this, this is especially helpful, not just to hear from the builder but see. Excellent work!
I can honestly say I think this is my favourite f14 build on RUclips, you got the weathering spot on, almost all the other videos you see guys who’ve spent hundreds and hundreds of hours with an incredible build…only to ruin it with massively over weathering at the end, I know they set out with the best intentions, to make it look realistic, but the end result is the most unrealistic it could be, if they were real some of the planes would burst into an enormous fireball the minute their afterburners were fired up because of the great big pools of oil all over them according to these over weathered models, not to mention they’d never get off the ground coz they look so poorly maintained, in fact the way over the top weathering is a disservice to the men and women who keep these jets in the sky every time they land and need maintenance and repair. Excellent model 😊
This video has inspired me to have a go (get back into) at scale modelling. First model I ever assembled and painted was a P-51 Mustang in the early 80s when I was 6 but since then mainly been doing wargaming miniatures. After some recent issues with work, my wife suggested I find a project to work on. Decided to put my energy and focus into working on a scale model again. Haven't gone with an F14 (yet) but it is my end goal.
Wow....I used to build models like these when I was younger and became pretty good at it. But never to this level of skill and artistry. You sir are a master. Excellent job. Thank you for sharing this.
I tend to shy away from projects like this because I don't have the patience to apply 100 microscopic "no step" decals. I really admire your work, it is beautifully done.
just the wings and tail planes. u can mass water soak about 6 at a time then apply in short order then repeat the group soaking ..until complete ....not as tedious as one would think.
A follow-up to a previous comment. I've re-watched this video twice now and you've inspired me to break out of my comfort zone (armor & ships) and tackle my first aircraft. I've ordered this F-14 and the aftermarket bits and I'm going to give it a shot. It will also be my first 'modern' model as I focus on WW1 and WW2 exclusively. Thanks for the push!
I love all of your builds, so satisfying and relaxing to watch. This should be considered a therapy session, as my blood pressure has dropped just watching.😊
Absolutely top-flight! As expertly executed as I have seen. I wish I was wealthy enough to employ you as a professional model builder and maker of how-to videos.
Incredible work. I wish to see those 3D cockpit and chair decals under a microscope. The detailing is astonishing... chipboard levels of detail. If i could see them under a microscope or just with the macro function on your phone I could probably figure out how they were made. Anyway, you are a gifted individual and thank you.
WOW!!! I never knew about those cockpit decals until this video! Absolute game-changer for modeling! I was part of a (unfortunately, failed) kickstarter that was for UV ink 2D printed minaiature gaming bases for Warhammer 40K etc, so I was aware of this technology, but never thought of it being applicable to cockpit detailing! This opens up so many options I'd never considered before,
A genuine treat to watch you build model kits, and to hear your explanations of your various innovations. Would you, or any of your viewers, know if Tamiya makes a 1:32nd-scale plastic model kit of the Grumman F-14D Super Tomcat USN Air Superiority Fighter? If not, would you, or any of your viewers, know if an aftermarket company makes a mixed media conversion/detail set that one can apply to this Tamiya kit of the F-14A?
Hello Radu! Yes, this kit is on another level. It's unlike any kit I've built before. By the way, one positive thing about remastering this video is that I am very motivated to build an aircraft model again because of the interest it received.
This video went from inspiring me to try building a model, because yours looks so cool, to discouraging me from building a model, because yours looks SO cool.
Ok, so you have a cool looking Sundowners Tomcat. I see that you have the Sundowners Phantom (I'm going to watch that video next!). Now all you need is a Hasegawa F-8 Crusader!
I enjoy watching your videos a lot. All accurately filmed and instructional very valuable pieces. But please chose more optimist background music. (Entry part music, second melody seems ok) Thanks and keep up with the good work!
While I currently don't have a space for it and the kit is kind of on the expensive side, I have a growing feeling that I ought to get it just to add to my pile for the future.
Hell yeah it's a great day when Scale-A-Ton uploads!! 👍👍 That little detail kit thing is awesome, I want to know more about how their made, super cool the amount of detail in those the switch panels. You should do a Blue Angles fighter jet project!
handsome looking model, I have always loved the sundowners. your paint work looks very impressive. the 3d cockpit decals are a crazy new technology. the only thing is that I think the canopy seam line may actually be the lightning strike protection line
Thanks for your comment. Nope it's a common mistake. These are the canopy seam lines. I don't know the source but possibly I guess an erroneous review led to this opinion. The lightning strike strips are molded from the inside of canopy obviously.
This was a beautiful build, the cockpit was just amazing, was almost a shame to hide it away in the fuselage. Those 3d printed decals were a great addition to the build, I've not seen anything like that for armor or ships yet. I would certainly use them if they were available - any type of new tech that makes the build more realistic is very welcome. Also. as I'm getting older (62) the eyes & hands are not as good as they used to be, so any help with details is greatly appreciated. I enjoy your build videos, very relaxing, low key, and spectacular work - thank you for sharing!
I completely understand ALL of the arguments around 3D printed and painted details, and too me, they just seem... I don´t know. I don´t want to knock them because I am impressed at the detail they provide simply by purchasing them, but for me it seems to move models more into the collectibles hobby. Again, I understand ALL of the arguments related. This is just my feeling.
It still requires assembly and painting -- collectors just buy it completed. Or -- in the vast majority of cases -- the kit collects dust on a shelf awaiting a yard sale.
Thank you so much for your kind interest. Yes I and all family members are safe. We are living on the northern west side of country. Hope those trapped under the rubble get out safely soon.
Wow --- those 3-D printed, painted parts look fantastic. That sure simplifies the cockpit construction. I've seen videos of this model kit before. It really does seem like the best F-14 model anyone's put out on the market. I would like to see some of these kits painted as alternate F-14 squadrons besides the usual decal kit builds and squadrons (VF-84, VF-2) we see all the time! I haven't seen kit builds or hypothetical F-14D versions of VF-1 Wolf Pack anywhere. Likewise, I have not seen anyone paint an F-14B in the colors of the original F-14B "Super Tomcat" prototype, BuAer No 157986, the seventh F-14 which is displayed on the deck of the USS Intrepid museum carrier now.
Of all the kits available, Tamiya is always my first choice. If Tamiya make a kit of the subject I am looking for, that is what I buy, once you build a Tamiya kit, it's hard to build a kit from other makers unless it is Moebius. other kits tend to pale in comparison. The Tomcat is of course one of my Favorite jets but there are so many good ones to choose from now it's hard to make a choice. Currently my favoured genre of kits is Military ground forces, AFVs and support vehicles. But I do get fighter jets once in a while too.
Hello, why do you put your decals on then carry painting afterward, then do all the painting first? nice to see your videos look forward to your next build.
Think about how the real plane is made -- painted then marked. So if you're modeling it during operations, the markings are going to be weathered as well. Also, repairs will be made and panels repainted, all after delivery and operations. It's a process of layering, like wrinkles on your hand as you get older.
*You push this wonderful kit to the limit, added some 3D printing details and a perfect paint, and you're right about re-upload your videos, YT quality makes no sense to impose low-definition quality!*
you're modelling talents are brilliant especially your patience . . . are you interested to undertake such model assembly projects for international customers (collectors)??? please advise . . .
Fantastic video - I love the details provided about the airbrush settings, tools, and methods used. 👍. What polish did you use after you buffed out the canopy frame to regain that clear plastic look?
can't help but notice the liberal use of the green cap glue on both painted and unpainted parts...does it require sanding afterwards? would any excess glue be visible at all?
great how you put the small parts on a holding block, That's just exactly the tip i need cause glueing/painting/decalling while holding tiny parts like i was doign clearly didn't work
Since I discovered that RUclips also processes low-resolution versions of high-definition videos in very good quality, I combined these two-part 1080p video series, remastered them in one piece 4K, and uploaded them again. Stunning model -- improving Tamiya's 1/48 F-14 is no mean feat. Congratulations!
And you.
Where can we get those detail kits?
great work, thank you so much for sharing!

Sundowners? maybe that squadron once engaged with IJN
I missed those days, but I was onboard the USS George H. W. Bush and that was the last combat deployment of the EA-6B. VAQ-134 kept those bird spotless and their showbird was beautiful. Seems they were there on your shop as well.
that aircraft currently is sittin in the alameda air musium in california. If you wanted to see it once more.
@@trifidhm They retired the ea-6b? I cruised on the GW in 2003, was an AT and working on the ea gear was neat
wouldn’t we all?☺️
i always struggle with water slide decal. That wet paper towel trick is inspirational.
I keep zooming in to admire the cockpit, the details of those 3D decals and ejection seats are amazing
These build videos are unique in that a lot of the others, they do not annotate the brush needle size, psi and mixture ratios. As someone starting out new with this, this is especially helpful, not just to hear from the builder but see. Excellent work!

Excellent model 😊
I'm only halfway through the video but I'm already blown away by the quality of this kit. Great work. It looks fantastic.
Best 30mins of TV I've seen in weeks!
an F 14 is on my list for the next few weeks, this looks amazing
This video has inspired me to have a go (get back into) at scale modelling. First model I ever assembled and painted was a P-51 Mustang in the early 80s when I was 6 but since then mainly been doing wargaming miniatures.

This is my uncle's F14! Thanks for doing it justice!
The amount of detail you added to your model is amazing, it's a beautiful build!!!
the landing gear details are so super impressive
My favorite aircraft. My father was the Chief Safety Inspector for the F-14 for over 25 years.
Beautiful build! ... I have a Fujimi 1/48 F14A still in it's box after 40 years.. cheers from down under 👍🇳🇿✈️
Wow....I used to build models like these when I was younger and became pretty good at it. But never to this level of skill and artistry. You sir are a master. Excellent job. Thank you for sharing this.
Glad to see you back my friend... even in an old beautiful video! Cheers from Argentina...
I watched the video and I want to buy another F14 even though one is already on the shelf. Amazing job.
Your skills and attention to detail are staggering. The cockpit alone is a mini masterpiece and the end product is stunning.
Thanks for the push!
does it have fuctional landing gear?
I started with jets lol
@bignuggie6706 I started with Gundams and I'm now currently building an Italleri F22
The f-14 will always be a marvelous beauty
Fantastic result. Crammed and used. It almost looks like a 1/32 cockpit. Can´t wait till the next build video.
Dear Mr Scale,
Your insight on the QS 3D is very useful. The damp paper bath technique is also excellent.
Thanks for the super content.
Regards,
Z
I love all of your builds, so satisfying and relaxing to watch. This should be considered a therapy session, as my blood pressure has dropped just watching.😊
That cockpit was absolutely stunning. The best I’ve seen of this model.
Absolutely top-flight! As expertly executed as I have seen. I wish I was wealthy enough to employ you as a professional model builder and maker of how-to videos.

Hello Rahmi! It was nice to rewatch this build. Tamiya has brought us a great kit with this Tomcat.
It was indeed a great aircraft in real life too!
Hello Radu! Yes, this kit is on another level. It's unlike any kit I've built before. By the way, one positive thing about remastering this video is that I am very motivated to build an aircraft model again because of the interest it received.
This is a beautifully detailed model but the extra details, especially that cockpit instrument set, really make it stand out.
I just finish my first mission in DCS: Speed And Angle camping for F14B, nice.
The remaster looks excellent, Rahmi. Thanks for sharing this build with us. Cheers.
Even as a viewer with no hand in this build, it's extremely satisfying seeing everything come together!
Tamiya was my top choice when I build models.
Tamiya makes some great kits..I bought several air plane kits in 1990...never built them..
I own this model, and it is indeed a dream of a built. However, this video and his way of building his model is out of this galaxy
Those cockpit details are amazing

Incredible! Beautifully Detailed!👍

This is such a good kit. Finished it also some weeks ago.
I love your aircraft builds, as always stunning !!!
The magic of backside painted parts is called 3D printing. Coulured polymers are laid down right from the base paper.
WOW, that was a great build. This reminds me of a long long time ago I had the 1/72 version of this livery
VF-111 Sundowners. Phantoms in Vietnam and F-5 Aggressors now.
Gorgeous! I wish I had even a fifth of your talent
Hell yeah it's a great day when Scale-A-Ton uploads!! 👍👍 That little detail kit thing is awesome, I want to know more about how their made, super cool the amount of detail in those the switch panels.
You should do a Blue Angles fighter jet project!
I've had this kit in my stash for quite a while, totally need to get around to building it after seeing this video!
You're skills are absolutely staggering!, i dont know what i like better - making a kit or watching you bring a kit to life!
This aircraft build is really cool. The attention to details is amazing. You're gifted.

Thanks for the combined video Rahmi, happy New Year and thank you for all the lovely builds you do, you're an inspiration!
Thank you for your kind wishes!
Just a beautiful build! And these 3d-Decals are absolutely amazing! :)
Comme d’habitude très belle vidéo tout est parfaitement expliqué et réalisation 👌
Great Video just started the same plane and this really helps me. Thx!
That cockpit was insane
Tamiya and F-14 🤩🤩

It was crazy. Awesome.
