That Tracker is an outstanding piece.

I really like this build Brett. Nice job. The segment of carrier deck with displayed ordnance was a good choice. Well done! (I went back & watched this video again!)
As for the bits at the beginning that go “unseen”, it doesn’t matter, you know it’s there and that’s all that counts. As with many things in life, often times the journey is as important as the destination, model interiors are often this for me.
The coating on aircraft carrier and all ship decks is called nn skid or non skid. Its been a while since Ive served. Used to be a sonar tech. Also was cross trained to be a torpedo man and to strap on the torpedoes to the SH60s we had on the FFG7 I was on. That wouyld make a nice diorama. An SH60 sitting on the RAST gear that traps the helo so it can be reeled in onto the flight deck and moved into the hangar. You could model the side rails and the helo bay door and the raised windowed area that the officer who is in charge of landings hides inside of. Lots of interesting details in a small area.
Another amazing build Hammer. I enjoyed watching you build. I tell builders I'm 59, been building models since I was 9, and I'm still going to school. I subbed you. Hope to learn a lot more from you as you go.

A great build and video Brett. I've flown a couple of times in a RAN Tracker many years ago in my early RAN days. Interestingly, I served in RAN submarines so have many recollections of exercising with the Trackers at sea when they were in service. As an "aviation nut", I think they are a great aircraft and the big twin radials sound just outstanding. You've inspired me to add a Tracker to my model stash and I've already started sourcing the various add-on items.
G'day Brett, an absolutely outstanding build and a stunning finished effect! Interesting that you mentioned the near pristine condition of these RAN aircraft. As a member of the RAAF, back in the 70s, mostly involved with our two C-130 Squadrons; I can tell you that the blokes at the squadrons and their 486th Maintenance Squadron took particular pride in keeping the exterior and interior of their aircraft in 'as new' condition. This was even though our Hercs did hard work in dusty outback regions and around the world in all kinds of adverse conditions. In repeated international air forces' C-130 competitions, RAAF Hercs had a habit of winning the display and presentation categories. I am pretty much sure this level of care applied, and probably still does, to all ADF aircraft. It's a logical extension of our military personnel dressing impeccably while on parade and during duties where they are on show to the public. I have to say that I really enjoy your builds. Your build style and approach is very similar to my own and it's nice to see that the results can look as good as they do on yours. Thanks for sharing.
Outstanding! That's a lot of work; a lot of PE! It makes me want to try a super-detailed build like this, but at the same time it doesn't. Lol! For your base, maybe try one of the textured rattle can paints from Rustoleum in the future and if it's not the right color, shoot the color you want over it. Peace and love.
I was quite daunted by the amount of PE at the beginning, but just taking it one step at a time wasn't so bad. Not a bad idea about the textured paint.
It's watching builds like these that makes me want to get better and improve my modelling skills. Love the addition of the deck chains and all the extra details. Just wish I could move on from Airfix starter kits to something like this, only so many spitfire mk1As I can take. Happy modelling Mr Hammerhead
Here's my philosophy , for what its worth. Each new kit you get, try something new on it, a new technique, new product or new tool (even if its a simple technique). You can keep doing this with the Airfixt starter kits, just start slowly trying new things, you'll see a lot of improvement in your skills. And, I still enjoying to the little airfix kits, they are decent kits that go together well enough. Keep at it and you'll get there!! Thanks for watching!
We love it Brett! Trent keeps me on my toes and tests my knowledge about aircraft by asking what are those and what do they do? 😅 Another fantastic build! 👍🙂
Ha ha, I ask the same questions, to myself, then I have to go on long google quests to get the answers! But, Its always fun to learn something new! Keep at it!
As do I on some of it. I love aircraft. So, I have researched lots of different types. When he asks me something that I don't know I simply tell him that I don't know! Then I proceed to show him how to find the information he is looking for! I love my boy. And so I love being able to share the same passion for aircraft with him! You are a major part of that! So, Thank you for what you do! 👍🙂
I've discovered tungsten putty for weight. They make it for pinewood derby cars and you can mold and ply it into every bit of space. I used it on my Rodon OV-1, and it's jammed in every available space like under the center console, under the instrument panel, I have it wrapped around the front wheel bay. It's amazing stuff.
Great looking build, like the way you did the display. The black panels on the engine nacelles are anti-glaree. Very common on WW2 aircraft, especially natural metal ones.
I enjoy watching your videos and your models show exceptional detail. I have a question about your Naval Aircraft why don’t you trace out the panel lines with flat black with the airbrush for depth ? just curious
Normally I will do some sort of either pre or post shading on a 1/48 scale aircraft, but the Aussies kept their Trackers in such good condition that I felt it didn't really fit in this case. If I were to do another one of these trackers, but in American markings I think I would, they tended to get a little more abused (not that they weren't taken care off, but probably just being used more).
I had a whole lot of trouble building the Grumman S2N model from Kinetic. Mine is modelled after our own Navy. " Koninklijke Marine" from the netherlands V 159. The folding part of the wings weren't easy to fit correctly also the searchlight provided was terrible. I had to make my own. Otherwise i turned out great. I have photo's for the result. ( V is for Valkenburg before that it had the D on the rudder. You're build is quite nice...good work
Another great build. It's great to watch your work. I always learn something and of course inspired. I have been considering an F-18. Maybe a Meng F model. Thanks! P.S. Opps, I posted my comment to the wrong video... :)
Hi Brett, do you do custom models, I have a Tamiya 1/48th Lancaster that has been sitting in the box on a shelf for many years and wondered if you would consider building it for me?
I have and generally I really like it, the only issue is that at the moment my local hobby shop is currently out of stock and so I am just waiting for them to get a resupply.
Outstanding job Brett. I'm new to your channel and I'm loving catching up with your builds. You strike a great balance between detail and brevity. One question on this one. The "Y" on the starboard aft NAVY decal. Is that intentional? It seems odd. And once seeing it, it kept drawing my eye. Keep up the good work and great videos!
You're the first to catch that! Yeah, I actually didn't even catch it myself until after I had taken the final pictures and had them up in photoshop. Best I can guess is some of the decal of the "Y" lifted off with some masking tape when I was making a small correction in that area. I keep meaning to go back in and try and fix it, but just haven't wanted to yet.
Amazing job on the Tracker, quick question about your pin vise I've seen you use, where did you get the nose piece to fit the micro drill bits as I have the drill bit set
Its just the normal pinvise, but the micro drills I use already have the larger base to fit in the pinvise, links to what I use: www.amazon.com/General-70804-4Pc-Pin-Vise/dp/B0031F02NQ?asc_campaign=97c5581ac0f96453bb6f38505e297314&asc_source=01H192EPVRBJ54JPPQEC40HZ7N&tag=namespacebran487-20 www.amazon.com/WayinTop-Carbide-0-3mm-1-2mm-Circuit-Engraving/dp/B07S636JHY/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1XMZ75K07LEWZ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.AdvCrMKzU5FyVBD5M3HTjm4TWW9QEusJko8hzuYt1NQYwXCJMuhfSruWzPsFwIvRaKtV-AC27g2FEj-2tb6-hQtzJilng3cYdDfa1gn7RlSsjjW4-uJuuoZD03V1oMNSLWP7ybtcsA6WRYFQ47MZNFyxLDmI3qIEvNlIkcFaUibIVZCBvctaTw-l0zx75FwhvsdgfwmjKE6Ot57vhnZkA8qfwikriRGejI0Vmn-Dgr4v_j9NyzYRkpvWF1iuPj-SrrwqYXkP7HExa4Uh8Uye-Q-4kIDvm11E7L-m91Vj994.pM-cF7L-JBMw0GcvXbp22J2p8v_w0MB6jx9mVcEyL6g&dib_tag=se&keywords=micro+drill+bits&qid=1722663346&s=hi&sprefix=micro+drill+bit%2Ctools%2C126&sr=1-5
Nice build, man! This kit requires brass landing gear legs due to its weight. Other than that it's OK (accurate geometry, crisp detail, etc.). The only drawback is very sparse detail in the cockpit, bomb bay and gear wells.
@@HammerheadModelMaking it's only purpose is to search submarines and just in rare cases attack them with torpedoes :) Also panel lines and overall surface require good sanding with fine greed sandpapers and melamine foam before priming and painting.
Wheel weights would probably be a good system for weighing models. Not the hammer on guys but the stick on weights. You can break them up into small sections and double them up, or leave them in long strips. Also come in a variety of weights.
@@HammerheadModelMaking I just wish I had access to cheap or free stick on wher weights still 😂 A box of them is fairly expensive… but will probably go a long way and last quite a bit.
I'm watching this over a couple of evenings but one thing I thought I'd mention is I saw someone get the quilted effect by using the knurled portion of his hobby knife to emboss some thick foil, like from a wine bottle. Maybe that'll be useful at some point.
Nice build... My opinion for inside work. It's nice if you have half open model. Otherwise it's a lot of money and we work for nothing... But it's nice.
Really nice work mate. I have the Italeri re-boxing of this kit in the stash that I intend to tackle one of these days and had been intending to do it in an Aussie scheme as well as the decals come with the kit. Probably wont do the photo-etch as my hands and eyes are just not up for it these days.
“I get to document all of this”.. A list of all the after-market stuff you used would be ideal ‘documentation’ for us, your viewers. It would give us not-so-experienced builders a base-point to work off of.
For the most part they go into one of my display cases, with the exception of any commission builds I do. As space fills up, I will rotate older builds into storage bins.

How long ago were you there? The S-2 isn't there anymore as of my last visit June of this year. The E-1Tracer is still there, which is a derivative of the S-2, and of that same visit, it was sitting normally on all its gear. There are photos of the E-1 sitting with its nose gear off the ground, even on the Intrepids official website.

or new tool (even if its a simple technique). You can keep doing this with the Airfixt starter kits, just start slowly trying new things, you'll see a lot of improvement in your skills. And, I still enjoying to the little airfix kits, they are decent kits that go together well enough. Keep at it and you'll get there!! Thanks for watching!
That was a blast to watch...... very enjoyable. You've got a thing of beauty there now. Top marks, mate 👌🏻👋🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much 😀 Glad you enjoyed it!
Cabelas sells lead wire in a neat little case with 6 spools. Smaller gauges, Super flexible!
Thats good to know, I'll have to go check it out, thanks!!
We love it Brett! Trent keeps me on my toes and tests my knowledge about aircraft by asking what are those and what do they do? 😅
Another fantastic build!
@@MoonwalkerModels Thats some great parenting right there! I try to do the same with my kids, I'm not afraid to say "I don't know, but lets find out"!
I’ll to search that stuff up, sounds very useful!!!
Excellent 👍 work!!!
Thanks a lot!
i am speechless. it is a awesome build, so nice 👍👍👍
Thank you so much 😀
Well I’m a little late to the party if seems but man that is outstanding!
Thanks!
Great looking build, like the way you did the display. The black panels on the engine nacelles are anti-glaree. Very common on WW2 aircraft, especially natural metal ones.
Thanks for watching! I was just surprised to see the anti glare panel cover such a large area.
Another nice one mate. Good job on pronouncing Melbourne too. We say it as if it’s spelled “melbn”
Ha ha, thank you, I know it wasn't great, but I tried!
Great work! The chains and tie downs look very good and folded wings are always interesting. Greetings...
Thank you! I'm really pleased with how the tie downs turned out.
Man that’s amazing. Great work. Love the tie downs. So cool!
Thank you! Cheers!
Superb Detail!
Thank you! Cheers!
What an outstanding build. And great explanation of all things done and the work you have put into it. You have a new subscriber!
I greatly appreciate the sub and your kind words!
Next time you look for chain, try radio controlled rock crawlers... RPP HOBBY would be a good place to start and RC4WD as well
I'll keep that in mind! Thanks!
You're build is quite nice...good work
The kit certainly requires some work, I used a fair amount of filler on this one. So, I get it! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely excellent work!!🇮🇪
Thank you so much 😀
Another great build. It's great to watch your work. I always learn something and of course inspired. I have been considering an F-18. Maybe a Meng F model. Thanks! P.S. Opps, I posted my comment to the wrong video... :)
Nice! Thanks for watching!
Hi Brett, do you do custom models, I have a Tamiya 1/48th Lancaster that has been sitting in the box on a shelf for many years and wondered if you would consider building it for me?
Hi, yes, send me an email at hammerheadmodelmaking@gmail.com and we can discuss it further.
Good stuff. Have you tried Mr Surfacer 1500 as a black primer. Its great
I have and generally I really like it, the only issue is that at the moment my local hobby shop is currently out of stock and so I am just waiting for them to get a resupply.
Really great build, came out fantastic!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great build.. Kudos...😎
Thanks 👍
Its just the normal pinvise, but the micro drills I use already have the larger base to fit in the pinvise, links to what I use:

What glue did you use to glue the detail parts on? Terrific build, a true master.
Thank you, I use BSI-Inc Extra Thick CA glue for gluing all of the Photo Etch parts.
Nice build, man!
This kit requires brass landing gear legs due to its weight.
Other than that it's OK (accurate geometry, crisp detail, etc.).
The only drawback is very sparse detail in the cockpit, bomb bay and gear wells.
I agree, I think the torpedo bay is the most unfortunate area on the kit, being that this aircraft's whole purpose is to take torpedoes!
@@HammerheadModelMaking it's only purpose is to search submarines and just in rare cases attack them with torpedoes :)
Also panel lines and overall surface require good sanding with fine greed sandpapers and melamine foam before priming and painting.
Wheel weights would probably be a good system for weighing models. Not the hammer on guys but the stick on weights. You can break them up into small sections and double them up, or leave them in long strips. Also come in a variety of weights.
Thats not a bad idea! Thanks for sharing!
@@HammerheadModelMaking I just wish I had access to cheap or free stick on wher weights still 😂
A box of them is fairly expensive… but will probably go a long way and last quite a bit.
Perfect work 👍👍👍
Thank you so much 😀
Outstanding!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Another awesome build and video 🙌🏻
Thank you! 😁
beautiful work! I have been getting back into modeling and these videos are encouraging. :) Cheers!
Welcome back to the hobby! Thanks for watching!
Beautiful job! 👍👍❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Can you tell me what is the name brand of your pin vise & where I can obtain it?
Looks great!

I'm watching this over a couple of evenings but one thing I thought I'd mention is I saw someone get the quilted effect by using the knurled portion of his hobby knife to emboss some thick foil, like from a wine bottle. Maybe that'll be useful at some point.
Very interesting, I'll have to give that a test! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome stuff mate👍🏻👌🏻💪🏻🇦🇺
Thanks for the visit!
Nice Build
Thanks!
Nice build... My opinion for inside work. It's nice if you have half open model. Otherwise it's a lot of money and we work for nothing... But it's nice.
Yeah, I get that, but I still do enjoy it and it gives practice. Thanks for watching!
Grato e um forte abraço!
Really nice work mate. I have the Italeri re-boxing of this kit in the stash that I intend to tackle one of these days and had been intending to do it in an Aussie scheme as well as the decals come with the kit. Probably wont do the photo-etch as my hands and eyes are just not up for it these days.
You can easily get away with out the PE, most of it is hidden anyways, and really the exterior only needs some sanding and TLC to get it looking good.
“I get to document all of this”..
A list of all the after-market stuff you used would be ideal ‘documentation’ for us, your viewers.
It would give us not-so-experienced builders a base-point to work off of.
Good point, I added a list of Aftermarket items I used on this kit to the video description.
Professional 👍
Thanks for watching!
what do you do with all the models you build
For the most part they go into one of my display cases, with the exception of any commission builds I do. As space fills up, I will rotate older builds into storage bins.
Fantastic 😀😀😀😀😀
Thanks 🤗
Your narration reminds me of the youtuber ThisIsDanBell and that’s a huge compliment from me
Thank you, I'm not familiar with that youtuber, but I'll be sure to look them up!
@@HammerheadModelMaking he does that urban explorer type stuff. Dead mall stuff. That content, in general, is cathartic.. it’s a trip. But his narration style, cadence and even tone is similar when he provides narration over his videos. Don’t know if he still does it, and urban explorers are a dime a dozen now and to be honest, none of that is relevant to your channel.
LOOK…you just have a chill voice and a good natured way of explaining things OK?
Kidding. But for real, just loving your content brotha.
@@HammerheadModelMaking and don’t tell the other scale model RUclipsrs but your content, your craft, is literally the best on here. My personal fav. You know it. I know it. ‘They’ know it.
@@KonwTheTrut Ha ha, good to know!! Thanks man!
@@KonwTheTrut You're too kind, I'll be sure to keep it between you and me!
Awesome build! I really enjoy your videos.
Thanks a bunch!
I'll full enjoy it
Thanks for watching!
You did a pretty good job with the pronunciation of "Melbourne". As Aussie would just say, MEL-BUN and almost don't pronounce the U.
Thanks! I'm still working on my Aussie accent!
That turned out really nice. This kit is a block of wood and needs a lot of help.
Ha ha, hadn't heard it referred to like that, but yeah, it makes sense!
You might wanna look up tracker that's on USS Intrepid now, it's a tailsitter too. I mean the nose wheel was in the air, when I was there, so maybe it's just their natural state? :)
Ha ha, thats awesome! Good to know its not just me!
@@get2dachoppa249 yeah, it was E-1, I mixed them up
Great job! Subscribed!
Awesome, thank you!
The mystery part on the seat is a Foster's Beer dispenser.
That would make a lot of sense and I 100% believe this to be true
