Hello, if you are wanting to see a metal colour I have a made a video here ruclips.net/video/oeZ12iF26Ew/видео.html&lc=Ugy12P_L6s0GkbAxoVR4AaABAg. It's not on the Starfighter but may be of use. Thanks for watching :)
This is an incredible build. The F-104 was a great choice. It is one of my all time favorite fighters. Your weathering techniques is outstanding, and what I appreciate is how you use other colors than black to highlight the panels, so many overuse and misunderstand that. A five star build out of five stars.
Watching your videos is like going to modelling university. I learn more in five minutes of your videos than I do in a whole year of trial and (lots of) error modelling. Thank you!
A good build and I like your videos. You've got the balance right between building and commentary. I must say I get bored when people talk for ages with no action, I think we need to see what is going on rather than listen to loads waffle. I agree with others on panel lining and washes. I hate it when some people cover the model with thick dark washes. It over emphasises panel lines and makes the model look too dark and like the model is dirty, and I don't mean authentic dirty.
That takes me back. Despite living in the far SW UK we saw a interesting mix of fighters, maritime and transport aircraft. On our bike rides we go past the airfield and one time 8 Belgium F-104s howled across in formation and landed in the colours of the kit.

As I said in the video, all references are linked in the description along with my *Patreon Page Link* if you want to support the channel and help me deliver videos like this on a more regular basis. Great kit from Kinetic but I wasn’t feeling the kit’s offering of decal options so went ahead and bought some aftermarket ones which were great. The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling I really love that you feel the same as I do about the black panel liner stuff. I look at the beautiful builds and then people do the black. I just gape and keep wondering why people would do that to their work. Some even use that on minis... If you do a new Starfighter, then do it in the NASA colors or replicate the one that shot itself down. :)
Outstanding job on this F104. You show a lot of patience as you detail your work. I wish I had been taught these techniques when I was building model aircraft back in the 1970s. Again, Fantastic work on this kit.
Outstanding job....beautifully done! What I really like about your builds which keeps me coming back is the detailed description of all processes and the tips you provide in the commentary. Thank you!
Haha guys like you are the reason, I won't start over making models again too soon... You're just too good, so I'm really spoiled with these great results - and I'd have to invest a good amount of money for all the equipment! Nice build and greetings from Germany!

Very nice model ! FX-90 flew with the Belgian Air Force from february 1965 till january 1987 (but the last Starfighter to fly with the Belgian Air Force was in 1983) , it then went into storage at Koksijde and now is on (sadly outside) public display in France at the Museum Savigny-Les-Beaune.
Love the F104 and would love to see a build in Italian colours one day, thanks for the video content they are invaluable to new builders and returning modelers alike i cant give you anything other than my best wishes and thanks again for the vids ! Regards Gav.
I have made a bunch of Hasegawa F-104's over the years and I decided to give the Kinetic version a try. After watching this video I look forward to starting the building process. 😁
The F-104 out-fought everything from that time period. Computer simulations have shown that the faster jet did much better during the age of guns, since it could control the pace of the fight, leaving and re-entering battle as desired. I have like 10 F-104 books, but they all seem to have the same pictures. Art books have provided me a much-needed escape from real life. Great job! I saw a German Starfighter live at a musuem, it's actually quite big. One of my favorite planes, great lines and great performance for it's time.
For a splash of colour on natural metal Starfighters, techs used to add covers for the wings' leading edges. They were so sharp that they made covers from channel-aluminun and finished them in fluorescent red wit a Remove Before Flight tag at the outside end.
I would LOVE to see a 1970s USAF F104 Starfighter painted in the highly polished aluminum chase plane livery. That one would be a challenge! Those observation chase planes were used for dignitary and high ranking officer reviews of new planes. These F104s were kept much cleaner than usual and the bare aluminum was polished up like chrome plating.
Kinetic have now made the F-104C version so I will definitely be building that sometime in the future. That one comes with a NMF scheme which looks amazing on these things... Anyway more models to build first! Thanks for watching and stay tuned :)

The size of the wings is actually deceptive because it's so light. The 104 had comparable wing loading to, e.g., the Harrier, F105 and Jaguar, and less than the Tornado, F111, Su-24 or Mig-27 to name a few.
I have actually wondered if this type of design(like the Messerschmitt Bf-109, it is mostly a monstrous engine with wings and tail, and the space for a pilot) somehow appeals to German pilots. This plane, like many of the US "Century Series" of jets in the late 1050s and early 1960s, is just so damned good looking. They have a reputation as dangerous to the pilots, too, and the F-104 was no exception. Fantastic job on the build, and extra thanks for explaining how you go about selecting the colors and applications to get the fine weathering effects. The tip about spraying through masks is one I'll have to try, too. Keep up the great work; we'll be watching!
Elegant work! A good balance of weathering and wear, without looking ready to be put paid. If you would like a real challenge, build a flight of four or so wheels-up, in an in-flight forced perspective diorama, a pilot in the driver's seat of each. One would be in 1:32nd scale, the second in 1:48th, the third in 1:72nd, and the last in 1:144th scale. (I might have seen one in 1:100th scale, and another in in 1:200th scale, but I cannot be certain.) They obviously would be of the same air force, of the same squadron, in identical paint scheme (well, natural metal), identical markings, except for the individual aircraft identification.

Not a Camo, but a Vikings Demo Team F-104 would be super cool! Also, if you ever make a Panavia Tornado it would be super cool to see in the 2011 321 Tigers tiger livery, they have great details on that one on their website.

Very nice build! I've got the same kit in my stash, and I bought myself Caracal Models' Nasa Starfighter decals (CD48161) to go with the kit :)
That blue-and-white scheme is sharp!
I built the 1/72 scale Hasegawa F-104 in the NASA scheme some years ago. It's a beautiful scheme alright.
Excellent my friend. Thank you.
Amazing build! Would be amazing to see a Danish airforce F-104 in a white/silver painting.
Yes! Absolutely yes! 😀👍
Not a Camo, but a Vikings Demo Team F-104 would be super cool!
Also, if you ever make a Panavia Tornado it would be super cool to see in the 2011 321 Tigers tiger livery, they have great details on that one on their website.
Ahh okay! Well I do want to make another Tornado, this time in 1/48 and this scheme is sweet! I do like the overall grey however to keep it "typical" but lets see what i feel when I get around to it ;)
@@TheInnerNerd I'd love to see a tiger! Typical planes are boring ;-P
Hot damn, turned out great
