Speaking of screens… my 6.86” prodash screen doesn’t always turn on when I turn the car on. If I unplug it in the back and plug it back in it starts right up. I believe it is all wired correctly. I’ve triple checked it. Btw I bought your Tune the trilogy courses and I’m guilty of posting IAC pictures on the Facebook group page 😂 (I have the bad ass Pontiac)
Do you know of any issues with it randomly shutting off during driving? I got it connected through a splitter, where half is my laptop and the other that is this 3.5. I shook the cables and couldn't replicate it shutting off. Didn't seem to affect drivability or the ECU. The big thing I noticed was the voltage was reading 12.1 while driving. It also saved a bunch of useless data logs (2kb files).
I really need help can I send a dm? I have sent my sniper back to Holley 4 times in less than the one year I have had it. Every time they have replaced the ECU and it will run briefly then smoke the ECU. The last time they had it they went though everything and found some connection issues and supposedly fixed everything. This time the car ran decent then on the way to the gas station they were redoing a railroad crossing and going over it smashed the o2 sensor. I replaced it with a bosch 17025. Car starts but runs terrible and the screen no longer comes on.
Love watching your videos Joe.. I have a question about the 3.5" screen.. I have created a Trans Temp input in the Holley HP but can't figure out how to display it on the 3.5" display with the other inputs.. Is it possible to do??
I can’t tell you how pissed off I am at Holley. I totally get that I screwed up and admit that I downloaded the wrong software into my terminator max ECU. it automatically tried to log into the wrong software about 10 times in a row and said wrong password and then just locked up. It didn’t login once and say bad password and then give me a chance to stop and double check what I was doing and just took the wrong software ran it 10 times in about 10 seconds and then shut down and said send it to Holley support. OK I get it my fault no I need to send it to them and let them fix it. So I called and waited for fucking ever in their bullshit rediculously understaffed technical support queue. Got the required FWD number, Sent the unit in, waited another four weeks for some flunky technician to plug it in. No phone call to ask what happened, no notes in their system, nothing. Just an entry that says CANNOT REPAIR. $1600 ECU just shit the bed and Holley response was F Off. Well I am going to fuck off that’s for sure. I won’t bother them with any more of my money. I can’t believe they get away with treating customers like that. If you think you can fix it Joe I would be more than happy to send it to you and pay you. You do more for Holleys customers than they do.

@Joe Simpson great video and content as always...should title these Weekly Holley EFI Comedy Show....LOL...ever run into a setup where the owner paid for a custom/dyno tune that built the AFR table in 2D Table view via laptop software...then they go in to the 3.5 and want to adjust the AFR for the Idle/Cruise/WOT and then when its saved from the 3.5 LCD it's now wiped out the custom 2D table and jacked it all up back to Simple mode? Same problem with the Spark timing table, then someone goes in to the 3.5 LCD and tweaks Idle/Cruise/WOT timing numbers (like in the wizard steps) and bam, overwrites all that 2D table niceness. I tell folks if they're going to use the SIMPLE AFR/Spark tables then stick with the handheld, if they've had a pro setup the 2D tables DO NOT tinker with those settings on the handheld and make sure it's always done via laptop software...I know a guy that did it twice on a sniper and caused perfectly idling sniper to start surging badly because of the interpolation the Simple table throws together depending on Stock/Mild/Race cam that's selected from the wizard.
I run two of the 3.5 LCD handhelds side by side off my HP ECU can bus, I really don't stare at them per se but configured all the critical cautions (yellow) and warnings (red) to light up so I have some semblance of the ole "idiot" lights if you will. My main dash cluster is all analog style autometer phantom gauges, so it's helpful to have those LCD's light up the Oil or Temp boxes if something goes off kilter, grabs my attention....guess that makes me an "idiot" LOL 😆
In addition to the new 5” dash now available, the next product out will be a Bluetooth device that with the Holley App allows you to use something like your personal tablet (IPad, etc) to be your screen.
3.5 refuses to do shit for me. It doesn’t wanna log half the time. For some reason tunes I load on the SD card won’t flash even if Im modifying existing tunes. What you were saying about worrying reminds me of Subaru, kids and access ports. Only thing I care about on the terminator screen is transmission, temperature and coolant temperature.
The only thing I use the handheld for aside from basic gauges is iac hold position and setting 2 step rpm.little quicker with that verses grabbing the laptop. Laptop for all tuning thou.
I’m having a rich idle issue. I have no idea how to tune the t x had a guy put a tune in the car and it ran fine. I did what he told me to do and transfer the learning table data and now the car idles super rich.
Thanks for the info Joe, makes a lot of sense for what you where saying, a larger amateur dash would be a great idea, appreciate you putting the pdf together too!
Can you maybe give us a video on the (I think it’s relatively new) 5” touch screen? Share your thoughts. I’m thinking that’s exactly what you’re talking about, between the 6.86” and 3.5”. Holley part # 553-200
they literally released the new 5" ability to work with all of the ecu's like 2 hours before this video went live - borderline creepy timing haha i have not used or even know anything about the 5" yet.
I think it is handy when you don't want to lug out the laptop , and you can you it for grabbing tunes using SD cards, and if you are stuck on the side of the road and don't have your laptop to see what is going on ,
Yea it works great for that - the point was that people only stare at that thing and no longer enjoy their car. All they do is stress about the numbers on the screen
i wish i could reply with photo's, id post the screen shot i got from a holley employee also stating how weird the timing of this was. pure coincidence
@@JoeSimpsonAtTempest doesn’t get much better than that. Im a TTT member and actually got my build running largely based on the content you and others have been willing to put out, thank you. When is the TTT members car meet 👀
Another cool feature for the 3.5 LCD with the HP/Dominator ECU is that you can start/stop internal ECU data log over the can bus without having to burn an input for a physical button trigger. I use that in addition to configured triggered data log setup (ie; TPS > 40%).
@@Turbolsdakota yes good point, I believe it works on the Term X as well with the exception that it saves the log files to the SD Card in the 3.5 LCD, whereas the HP/Dominator ECU's have the internal 4GB memory. I don't remember if the internal ECU logging allows for higher fps logging (since it's internal) vs. the SD Card, and/or laptop via CAN/USB cable?
We use the Tinker dash in the new edge car I post on FB group. It works well, has some switched outputs, but are only manually switched so that's a bummer, had hoped I could trigger fans with it but that's a no go. Another quirk is that the shift light is progressive only even when switching it too static.
Holley just released a 5" dash that can everything do everything the 3.5" does 😂 and its actually affordable $400..

Mine did the same thing. Hook both power wires to switched power. This seems to have fixed my issue.
@@TheRedPearl150 that is how mine is installed as well, no issues.
@@TheRedPearl150 Thanks I’ll give it a shot. I was thinking even adding a push button toggle would fix it.
"Roughly 27,000"... Precise 😂
Good stuff! Wouldn't it be amazing if Holley actually took this to heart with their screens!
I use the 3.5 as my dash. Works great for older cars. Just mounted to the steering column. Pick a few things I like to see and go on my way.
Same here! Works great to watch coolant temp oil and fuel pressure
Glitchy screen. This thing will flutter thru all the options randomly clicking things. Very dangerous.
Excellent video. I’m sure you’ve helped a lotta folks just by these explanations. And you just did it! Thx

10" 1080 touchscreen, a laptop, usb, and hdmi cable makes for decent gauge replacements.

I think the biggest reason it sucks is the awful touch sensitivity of the screen. It's basically unusable without a stylus.
Just get a good windows tablet and you have a killer dash for what 200 bucks.
